Scratch that

Sure!!!!

Well we seem to have broken Constellation, it has been down for the last couple of days even there home page is down, hopefully they get it back up and running before our challenge. I still have 1 easy spot in NumberFields so I will run there for a couple of days.

So, I've been running Collatz on my 7870 and 7790. I saw the plea for more power on IRC, so I'll add my two 7970s (running large with CPU headroom) for the remainder of the challenge (they currently are on Milkyway). I should get them switched over in just a little bit.

Added a challenge for GPUGrid and a challenge for Einstein in October.

Don't forget that our first DC challenge starts tomorrow. If you haven't already, you should start switching hosts over so that they already have the initial files downloaded.

Uh oh, I see we are barely in first.

I may need to shut my 4p off tonight. If I do that though I will switch a couple Intel 2ps over to more than make up for it.

Yeah...we had to play catch up. I'm thinking ngb:setiteam probably used a bunkering tactic to start out with such a splash. They certainly didn't keep the pace up after the numbers were in. However, we caught them and passed them. A few other teams are complaining about the validation process. I think they need to realize that it effects all of us, so whether they see the numbers they should be getting or not is irrelevant because none of us are seeing our true numbers in this case. The only exception is for those of us whom started running the project early to make sure our rigs were happy had an advantage of earlier completed work units validating during the challenge. But, that is a commonly known scenario similar to bunkering without the intent of withholding work progression.

Constellations is one of the slowest to validate work since all WU's have to run 3 times in order to be validated. And many people try to get large caches and never run them all or they time out before they get to them which really slows validation down.

This is true and very annoying. People should manage their caches smarter. Bunkering is one thing, but general use, you shouldn't need a large cache. Of course unless you have issues like Grandpa_01 has experienced with losing connection.

Well I successfully swapped over from my 4p AMD to 2 2P Intels for the Constellation challenge.

I added a Gerasim challenge in October and then a SIMAP challenge in December. However, I really doubt many partake in the first half of the SIMAP one since that typically is during the WCG X-mas challenge.

Is Constellation always so stingy with WUs? Or is it simply due to the challenge? Have most of my boxes doing nothing but Constellation right now and a few of them are way under used. Running update only yields 1-3 new tasks if I'm lucky.

fastgeek, you are correct in that Constellation only divies out a few work units at a time and to load up a machine with many cores can be very tedious. Just ask Grandpa_01. Manual updates may work but don't get over aggressive with it. With the challenge nearing its end, I wouldn't put too much time into fetching.

Noticed not long after posting that there was only ~5 hours left; so no, not going to. I trust that any tasks issued during the challenge will still be counted upon submission? Or is it the other way around; that any completed task submitted after the challenge isn't counted towards the final tally?

When it comes to challenges hosted through BOINCStats, it is just the points that validate during that time frame. So, work completed before but validates during count. Work units completed during but validate after do not count. You still get points at the project, they just don't count for the challenge.

However, the PrimeGrid challenge coming up soon. That will work differently because it is hosted by the project and they can control what counts and doesn't . They will count only the work units that are sent AND completed during the challenge. Therefore, tactics like bunkering will do absolutely no good during that challenge.

I'm finding the main list to be tough to filter through for upcoming challenges. Here is the list for October so far:

metallicafan, could you sign us up for this?

For Nov 16th to Nov 25th 2014 SETI.Germany is arranging a challenge at World Community Grid on the occasion of the grids tenth birthday: the 10th Birthday Challenge.

We would like to invite BOINCSTATS to participate in the challenge and hope that your team and many members of your team will be joining and participting this event.
!!Be aware, only your WCG-Team-Captain can join your team to the challenge!!

More information and statistics regarding the challenge can be found here http://www.seti-germany.de/wcg/10th_Birthday_Challenge.html?lang=en

On the occasion of the 10th birthday, in addition to the overall rankings there will be sub-project rankings available too!

Your participation is very much appreciated.

Many Greetings: Terminator

CPU's will work too....but don't expect many points. GPU's get the ERB but I don't believe the CPU's do. Also, I think the GPU's aren't all that high in rewards either. POGS scores about 3 times what MT CPU work units at GPUGrid are...

If you check your preferences at GPUGrid, you can select to run CPU, but you would also need to check run test work in order to get the MT CPU work they have.

Not going to enable cpu was... Is there a specific gpu unit I need to enable.

Long work units score better but only if you get them in within the 24 hour deadline. Otherwise do the short work units.

For easy reference, here are the upcoming challenges

Universe: 11/29-12/09 Test the new project http://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/605 -
PrimeGrid: 12/1-12/6 Karl Schmidt-Rottluff – Quelle: http:¶¶geboren.am¶1_Dezember http://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/603 Any work units -
12/5-12/6 Saint Nicholas' Challenge - http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=6000 SGS work units
SIMAP: 12/06-12/20 SIMAP final challenge http://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/586 -

The Karl Schmidt-Rottluff challenge over at PrimeGrid is on! This challenge is not limited to specific workunits.
I went to the website that Gilthanis had linked and here's more about Mr. Schmidt-Rottluff. Caution: the page was translated by Google. :D

Karl Schmidt was a German expressionist painter and graphic artist and co-founder of the Dresden artist group "The Bridge" (1905). He was born on December 1, 1884 in Rottluff (today Chemnitz) and died at the age of 91 years on the 10th August 1976 in Berlin. On this day, his birthday marks the 130th time.
