AMD Appoints Dr. Lisa Su as President and CEO, Read Steps Down

Their stock just sunk below $3 and is still falling. If they don't pull a rabbit out of their hat next week, this could be it.

This is probably the driving force for the stock price:

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (NYSE:AMD) made a new 52-week low of $2.97 in the current trading session after Wedbush slashed its ratings for the semiconductor company, from “Outperform” to “Neutral” and cut its price target for the stock from $6 per share to $3 per share, in a research report sent to investors on 9th of October. AMD shares are trading in the range of $2.97 to $3.20. The company has a market capitalization of $2.34 billion and P/E ratio of 28.46.

I remember when their stock was $1.86 in November 2012 and everyone was saying they were goners. Yet, they're still here. Stinks, if I would've bought in at that low I could've doubled my money in around six months. Wasn't brave enough though and I sure feel the same way if it goes that low again.

What "console wave"? You do realize they sold their chips to Sony/MS at zero profit for the PR/marketing value, yes? There is no "console bump" reflected in their financials.

Proof? Link?

she sounds and looks like a true nerd.

I really would like to see amd come up with a chip that crushes intel.

Know what I particularly liked about this announcement? Doctor Su just happens to fall into a number of categories that are politically valuable...but AMD isn't even bothering to mention them. Why? Her credentials speak for themselves. Nothing more need be pointed out, because the chops are evident.

Exactly how it should be. Better than Intel's pious bragging/pandering.

Engineers get the top jobs when the accountants have decided to run for cover. They are likely pretty convinced its a lost cause and they'll get the engineer to take the fall. She'll make the decision of making substantial reinvestment that the accountants should have been making way back when they could afford it. It will be the right decision but too late and will only trigger the bankruptcy. Ironically, the accountants will step back and point and say, this is why we should have the power and not product people.

The engineers don't realize they're being setup for the fall or actually care about the product enough to walk into it anyway.

All of you who assume this "is it" for AMD are so short-sighted... When AMD is still around 20 years from now, you will still be talking about how they are about to implode. Everyone with any sense uses AMD.

So much false information here... Like AMD not making any money off of consoles? Do you read anything? That is one of the few things that is keeping them afloat so they are not worrying. They are definitely not breaking even there right now.

Also, no one is running for cover... Rory is staying on until the end of the year in an advisory role... This is a good move for the company that has returned to non-GAAP profitability, and will prove to help considerably.

The reason they are not worrying about Nvidia anymore is because the GPU space is one of the few spaces where you have true innovation from one company, and then the next, and so forth. It's a stable space.

2016 they will come out with a great CPU, and we'll all know the details about how it will be great way before that time (so we can prepare).

AMD is going to be around a long, long time. Anyone paying attention knows that they have almost turned the ship completely around already, and now just need some time to get accelerated. One or two years absolute max. That is why now is the right time for Lisa Su to be CEO...

Everything is already in place, and smart people will probably buy stock seems how it is at the years low. Stop hating on AMD and open your eyes... You aren't doing anyone any favors, and least of all yourself.

I really hope AMD perks back up.
