Guess How Many U.S. Lawmakers Have A Windows Phone?

Only one Windows Phone user? Less than ten percent use Android phones? Given the fact that this is the government we are talking about, I guess I shouldn't be surprised that 70% use iPhones.

According to a survey conducted by The Hill, about 7 in 10 U.S. lawmakers carry an iPhone. That’s a higher percentage than the public at large, but scarcely a surprise. Twenty-eight percent of the pols polled are still packing a BlackBerry, but that, too, is no shock given that we’re talking about the government. Android at only 9 percent? Seems low (and also tells us some lawmakers are carrying multiple phones).

Without reading I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess..0?

Rare instance I'm not gonna read the article because I can't say I care much. Old technology inept people who sadly run this country I tend to not care about.

Chairman : Ladies and gentlemen we will bring to order the hearing of the Ways and Means committee regarding HR 1056...

Some random congressperson : CHECK IT OUT I REACHED LEVEL 2 ON CANDY CRUSH!

The iPhone owners in our government are taking selfies and playing candy crush.

I was a Windows Phone user up until a couple weeks ago.

I didn't care for the experience, found the animated transitions between apps annoying and unnecessary, and lack of apps on the whole was the nail in the coffin for me.

I consider the Windows Phone to be Microsoft's "me too" offering. Without community support, it's hard to make it a serious option.

You didn't even look at Steve's comment. He said one.

On topic the headline should read "Shocker: US Politicians are tech dinosaurs!"

Those idiots can barely figure out how to wipe their own asses, of coarse they're going to own iPhones!

Why should this surprise anyone?

Most middle class Americans have iPhones.

I think you miss the point...

70% own iPhones, higher than the average population, which shows how important image is in politics.

28% own Blackberries, again higher than average, showing some (a minority) of politicians actually want to get shit done.

Only 9% own Android phones, much lower than average, showing how few politicians are tech-savvy.

Overall statement: politicians are mostly image, partly business, and zero knowledge

I love my 1520 as well. My wife loved her 1020 but just upgraded to a 1520. Hands down the best phone I have ever used, and I used to be an Android fanboy.

They banned laptops from the floors of both the Senate and House. They are the most technophobic and tech illiterate group of people in our country outside of an Amish farm.

Or it could just be that Android devices are more difficult to manage, but that's not sensationalist enough.

Ok, but I hope this wasn't supposed to be an apples-to-apples comparision. iPhones are ~$500 (retail). A Windows phone can be had for as little as $50.

I work with a lot of corporations. iOS and Blackberry currently have better enterprise management solutions. Most users don't like Blackberry (do to a lack of software? user experience?). Since a lot of companies have adopted BYOD, they are not seeing any Blackberries and very few Windows Phone devices.
CIO's perceive Android as having lots of malware, not as easy to manage, and much harder to support. Ever write software for Android? Good luck supporting more than the more popular devices.
One other issue I see as a software developer: companies have been developing native apps for iPads. They do not want to support another platform - too expensive. There are multi-platform solutions like Titanium, etc. Still, costs money to switch to these.

But, yeah - I think Candy Crush and games are what the govt is using these for. I think John McCain got featured playing a poker game on an iPhone a year or two ago :)

At least the Amish furniture website actually works... :D

They are mostly old people. Get some young people in there, and it will be iPad's and MacBook Air's in there. Get some tech savvy young people in there, and it will be Lenovo laptops, iPads/Surface, and Android phones.

I am an Android user, but I can see why the iPhone and blackberry are the most used devices. The windows phone is very late to the party and I know of no one that has one. The iPhone has a better ecosystem than Android. The applications tend to be more polished and it's far easier to make a choice on which phone. My Nexus one was great, but every Android phone thereafter was not. It wasn't hardware, but the OS itself. iOS and Blackberry work as intended, but Andriod keeps morphing.

This is an area that Windows does have an advantage. The same tool and skill sets can be used to develop for Windows phones, tablets and desktops. With Windows 10 it should be easier than ever to deploy LOB apps across all devices with a single code base.

Windows Phone is a solid consumer offering but it suffers the same fate as desktop Linux, low market share thus low 3rd party support and number of apps. There's really no easy fix for this other than to sell LOTS more phones, and perhaps getting better and smarter leveraging between the phone, tablet and desktop which 10 is supposed to do.

My main phone now is an HTC One M8 Windows device, the exact same hardware as the Android version and it's a great phone except the camera. Microsoft has relaxed the hardware requirements and now gives away the licenses for free, something it should have done at the start. But there a lot more small vendors now picking it up on some very inexpensive devices. Those will have to do well if significant growth in Windows phones is to happen.

Incorrect. Android.

I wouldn't distinguish iPhone and Android in classes. It's more like people who watch Real HouseWives are associated with iPhones and people with cognitive thinking use Android. I say this cause I've seen a lot of people who have issues paying for auto repairs, bills, and sometimes they're even homeless in a sense, but somehow they have the latest iPhone. Yet here I am dredging along with a 3 year old Android phone that works and I give 2 shits about the latest specs or how much larger they can make the phones.

If any of you are one of those people that much have the latest Samsung Galaxy or whatever phone, then you might as well put an Apple logo in the back of your phone and call it a day.

Disagree.
I work for a company that has developed an IOS and Android app that integrates into our existing software product. Had just as much trouble with the different Apple products as we did with Android.

The main difference was the much higher initial cost (mainly hardware) to develop for Apple.
Android development runs under windows, with Apple we had to buy Macs for development and testing.
Yes I could have hacked VM's running the Mac OS, but we have to keep everything legal which means buying over priced Apple hardware.

You need to get over yourself.

Got it. Someone with an iPhone 6 is "technologically inept", but you losers with $50 Android based garbage phones that can't do anything without stuttering are tech geniuses.

At least iphones are designed and sold by an American company. I find it interesting people keep denigrating them and pushing foreign companies like Samsung.

I'd just like to clarify my comment about $50 stuttering Android based garbage phones. That wasn't fair, since even Android "flagships" like the S5 include the stuttering feature via bloatware like TouchWhizzz.

Manufactured in China utilizing horrible labors laws all the while avoiding taxes and giving the least to charities of any major US company.

I have used Windows Phone, Android and iPhone. I currently have an Android but will likely switch to another platform because Android annoys me. It's quite simply annoying and unpredictable (in terms of reliability). Windows Phone is excellent but has a massive lack of support. I was considering a 1520 but I think I will sit it out and pick up an iPhone because I want Windows 10 but I'm not sure if the current gen will get the upgrade. There also hasn't been much in terms of new devices which leads me to believe there is a new line of devices coming or they are stalling for Windows 10. Contrary to what peoples opinions are, iPhones tend to just work and have plenty of support.

Not at all. I miss my Lumia 928 something bad. This nexus 5 is great, but I really liked the WP platform and that pureview camera... fuck yes. Don't care about "apps" and how many there are. Just give me the few things I need and I am good. All the apps I have on my Nexus 5 I had on my L928.

They're designed by an American company. Made overseas with money kept offshore and funneled to avoid taxes. So go go supporting American designed!

BTW, Google/Motorola at least design and ASSEMBLE their phones in America. Apple doesn't want to speed the extra few dollars to do this.

*Apple mode* You're not using it right. */Apple mode*

I haven't seen Android stutter (even with bloatware) since before the S3. All of my recent devices have been fine. The S5 especially.

You used to get stutter bad after a month or so. Apps would be installed and much like Windows XP, it'd just start to slowly crawl. But they've fixed a lot of that in Android 4.4.

Have you ever written software for Android? Because that is a stupid statement unless you're creating something that uses specific hardware that is unique to the particular phone.

Pretty sure if they weren't rich before they went, they mysterious all become rich or richer after being there. Rich people like to show that they're able to throw away money and not worry about it.

Don't know any lawmakers, but I know a prosecutor who keeps trying to get his phone hooked up to his computer to act as a Wi-Fi hotspot, he's already annoying as f$#k, but it's amusing to keep telling him no, because the city says so.

Actually laughed out loud when I saw the caption under the lone WP-wielding congresswoman:

U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene,
D-Microsoft

No surprise that congress might be out of touch with technology.

57 is the average age in the house and 63 is the average age in the senate.

These are old men.

I would be more surprised if they actually WERE hip to the latest tech.

With that said, why would anyone want a Windows phone? :p

Also, I want to go on a mass phone bending spree in the halls of congress.

That is all. :D

while politicians aren't exactly the best segment of the population to poll for tech use. seriously these are people who have no idea how shit works nowadays. it has to be said that to be fair windows phones are crap for app support. I wanted one incredibly bad. Then i found out there was(is?) no credit card reader software, among other apps that i actually use frequently. This is what is killing them to be honest.
IF they want to be a serious competitor they need to at least be on the same playing field as the other two.

i can hardly count blackberry anymore. I love them but unfortunately they are on their way out...and they too had issues with app variety, even for business use.
