R9 290, $290 - $20 MIR = $270

how does the HIS brand rate compared to the other brands?

As someone who generally couldn't care less what my computer parts look like, holy shit that is an ugly card.

Ugly to the point it would impact my buying the damn thing.

I like it. I can't see what you all consider ugly about it.
My xfx uses 1 8 pin + 1 6 pin
This thing uses 2 8 pin.. hmmm

That's less than one dollar for each 1 in 290. SIIIIIIIIICCCCCKKKKKK...

In all seriousness, trifire 290s for $810 is amazing performance.

Still overpriced, these should be $250 without a rebate. Spending a little more for a GTX970 makes more sense. If the 290x was $270, then maybe, but right now, outside of existing 290 owners looking for Crossfire, AMDs general product line is obsolete....and that's coming from a pretty big AMD fan.

Its $80 more for a GTX970 with a decent cooler. Pretty big price gap between $270 and $350.

Even the stock 970's that are $329 will mop the floor with this while running cooler, quieter and sucking less power, plus Nvidia exclusive features like Shadowplay (zero impact recording), DSR, G-Sync, etc. So you're getting all that for $39 more (or $59 if the rebate check actually comes).

If it *has* to be AMD, wait for the 300 series. The 200 series is pointless now.

Because the 3xx series is going to be as cheap as $270 out the door right? And everyone has an extra $40-$60 to spend. i might, heck, might as well get quad sli titans. No biggie :)

Actually depending on your price bracket, if AMD plays their cards right, the 285x may be a fantastic option in it's price range. 1st thing AMD has to do is discontinue the 290, drop the 290x to $270/$300, then tune the 285x to perform like a Vanilla-R9-290 and sell it for $230. It would preempt the inevitable GTX960Ti and perform close to it giving AMD some breathing room in at least one tier in the GPU marketplace.

Save for that, AMD are going to rot on shelves for the rest of 2014, or at least until the R9-3xx series rolls around.

My big concern is that Maxwell will do to AMDs GPU line-up what Conroe and Nehalem did to AMDs CPU line-up.

heck of a price for a brand new 290 even if its not exactly my first choice in cards......my 7970 will hold me out till the next smaller die revision but might be a good choice for some

Damn, Alien Isolation and Star Citizen for free though while most 970/980s don't come with anything right now. Free games are not to be discounted if you're going to buy these games anyways.

Also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess, but I think that fan design and color looks great (if you care about that) -- reminds me of my old MSI 7800 GTs :)

I think I'm going to hold out until BF & see if
1) 960 GTX comes out (and pricing/performance)
2) If these will hit $249 or less after rebate.

If I could find this deal out of the California sales tax zone, I would jump on it!

Now that's a heck of a deal. I mean, even if you didn't want any of the shwag, you could probably recoup $60 selling them bringing your cost to $210.

Everyone underestimates how much those bundle codes sell for. Easy $60+ on eBay due to the Star Citizen codes.

Selling the bundle code makes these cards a FANTASTIC deal at +/-$200!!! NEW!

Wow, tempting... and I'm not even shopping for a card!

If you buy the MSI card and sell the headphones you are doing even better :)
