Upgrading to nVidia's new graphics?

I'm currently on 670 SLI and very tempting to upgrade to 970 SLI, not sure if my 2600k will hold it back though. Any thoughts?

It would not. Especially if you overclock the cpu and run at 1080P or above. I'm 100% confident on that. I just upgraded from a 2600K @ 4.8Ghz.

In my thread here http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1834506

I ran some benchmarks and was keeping up with people on newer setups. I've since upgraded (just because) but it was a worthy setup for the cards.

Here was my Heaven Run with that setup

Here is something that was said to someone just after that who ran with a newer but similar setup
http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1041119223&postcount=58

Will you win the benchmark crown with that setup = No
Will you be held back in games and things so badly that you should avoid the Purchase = No.

Hope I could help ;)

Y'know people keep saying that but there are a few games worth upgrading for coming soon.

Batman Arkham Knight
Battlefield Hardline
The Witcher 3
Assassins creed (Possibly 2 separate new games)
Borderlands the Pre-Sequel
The evil within
GTA V PC
Far Cry 4
Dragon Age Inquisition
RYSE Son of Rome
Call of Duty Adv Warfare
New Star Wars Battlefront
Mirrors Edge 2
Metal Gear Solid 5 Ground Zeros
F.E.A.R. Online
Saints Row Get out of Hell

I'll stop there as there are likely 5-8 games in this list alone that you will play.

i don't even follow RTS and MMO games and I know something is happening there.

Of all those games, there are few which would demand an upgrade.
maybe Witcher?
Borderlands ran/runs fine on last generation hardware.
Ryse is fashioned from Crytec so that might be interesting.
FC4 will be only challenging to anything that couldn't run FC3

Of all those, I'm interested in the gameplay of Evil Within, the most. It was built on idtech 5. I hope it runs well and has been properly modified.

Funny and after that list I came up with 5 others that I forgot now :D

There are definitely games coming that are worth upgrading for. Yes technically some of these games are 6 months out but we'll always have only 2 or 3 games coming in the near future to upgrade 2. PC releases are usually pretty spaced apart. Sometimes we get bombarded all at once but we get games to upgrade for frequently. I like to Max games out the most I can. Anyone know any RTS or MMO games They want to add to this list?

Any other games not on this list coming sooner that I missed?

Probably in for a 970 (coming from a 6950) whenever my Rift DK2 ships and I can find one in stock with 3x+ DP connections.

Impressive numbers you got there, and thank you very much, this is just what I need :D I guess I'll be fine with my 2600k @ 4.5Ghz and game at 2560x1600 at least. I'm usually all about the numbers but I haven't kept up with the whole upgrading thing for a while. Now I just gotto figure it out how to make it worth going from 670 SLI to 970 SLI. :)

NP Happy to help.

No interesting RTS games coming unfortunately...Planetary ANnhilation was decent. Still nothing coming as good as Supcom: Forged Alliance. =(

I was contemplating dual 980's and a SWIFT, but I think I'm going to hold off until March 2015. I really love how well the 290's play with my Overlord, and am very interested to see what FreeSync brings to the table. I'd hate to sink $2k into new GPU's and a new monitor right now only to see better options available in the spring.

There will always be better options available soon after you buy something. That's life.

I'm concern if my i7 930 CPU will be holding me back (pretty sure it's an issue with ARMA 3 at this point) but unfortunately my current GTX680 has been giving me BSOD.

Maybe I'll get a GTX 970, and hope I'll be able to enjoy it's full potential at 60 fps. Not pushing for 3 digits fps as I don't have the monitor to take advantage of that anyway.

Looks like a 970 is in my future. Will be nice to finally play Skyrim maxed with mods at a playable FPS.

Are any better monitor options coming? I Need a monitor but not sure which to go with...

Just upgraded to a Gigabyte G1 GTX970 from 2x GTX580 3GB SLi and this think just dominates.

Why they release this when I just upgraded to a xfire 290? I hope they can maintain the price/performance crown the next time I upgrade.

Looking at getting a used GTX 780 for $200- $250

I just picked up a new GTX 780 (ASUS) for a decent price, after accounting for the MIR, game code sale, and credit card cash back.

Upgraded from my GTX 670.

For another $80 or $90, the GTX 970 would probably hae been a better buy, in terms of performance and futureproofing. But the 780 will suit my needs pretty well for a while. I have no plans for 4k until the costs come down quite a bit. Plus, it's available, and (hopefully) less risk of coil whine, which seems to be prevalent with the 970's.
