Ruh-Roh, there’s trouble brewing on the gridiron and it has nothing to do with football. The NFL has cut a deal with Bose that includes an exclusivity clause banning any other headphone from being shown on TV, pre-game or post-game interviews with players. Apple is not pleased.

Beats, now owned by Apple, isn't happy. The company issued a statement saying "Over the last few years athletes have written Beats into their DNA as part of the pre-game ritual.

Funny to me the names mentioned here. Beatz and Bose. Both are known for only one thing, status symbol. I can't recall these million dollar athletes using good cans like Sennheiser, Grado, Sony or many of the other quality experience brands. Goes to show what's in a name versus what you get for what you pay.

If Apple wanted that, they should of paid to be exclusive. Fair enough.

I've used Panasonic and JVC ($90 cans, give or take) that sound a hell of a lot better than what Bose and Beats shill out to their sheep.

Enjoyed my Grados (2 x SR80s, 1 SR225's) but hated their cracking cables. Happy with my ATH-AD900s.

I don't watch sports or could careless about Beats, but.....
Banning players from using their favorite cans. Fuck you NFL.
Don't be gay!

So like most QBs in the league puts in earphones pre-game to block everything out and get psyched up for a game. I think the players should revolt and simply demand that they not be filmed when they have headphones in.

They CAN use them; just not during interviews or pre-game on the field. Advertising rights and all that. The punky QB was fined for wearing an Adidas headband back in 85 (though you're probably too young to remember that).

Good luck with that. Players usually sign away this right in their contracts.

The issue here is: how is a "non profit" able to enter into lucrative deals with other companies?

At least Bose is less ghetto and was founded by a real MIT engineer.

Official headphone of the NFL I guess.

Wonder who gets to vote on what's "official"?

This is not a big deal, and it's business as normal. I am more disgusted by the idea that McDonalds is the "official" food of the Olympics and I a) don't care about the Olympics and b) eat at McDonalds occasionally. But it is not high quality food and you do not get to that level of physical health eating McDonalds.

Incoming patent on Pre-game Beats ritual wearing and Apple lawsuit on NFL for violating it.

NFL Bans Players From Wearing Shit Headphones On Camera Due To A Marketing Deal They Have With Crap Headphone Corp.

Does anyone else see it this way?

Interestingly, I've been reading that Bose has been doing well with their around-ear headphones. Striking a balance between very effective noise canceling and decent sound quality.

I don't have an issue with the NFL holding their players to requirements like this, they are paid extremely well for what they do, on the other hand I think it's disgusting how much the NCAA makes off college athletes, to the extent that they claim they own the images of the players.

LOL, yes indeed! I find it funny shit that the NFL can force players to wear specific headphones in the first place!

Do they have to wear specific watches. specific shoes, specific underwear etc?

This right here. So retarded and I'll never comprehend the thought process behind NFL being a non-profit.

I would sincerely hope that the players would just shrug it off and do whatever they're told as they get to make money hand over fist. Hell they could just go to Bose, work out a sponsorship and boom more $ while they still get to use X brand in their own time.

Many people don't seem to understand that celebrities, superstar athletes etc don't care so much about acoustics, freq response etc. For them it's simply about what brand is "tops" at the time or looks the best. Right now and for the foreseeable future it will be Beats. It's a marketing powerhouse now that its part of Apple so it'll be a household name, overpriced and compared to everything else. Having the "cache" of Beats headphones or an Apple phone is all it takes to an incredible amount of people. Doesn't make them bad, or too rich or stupid.

They just don't care.

Now all we need is for the NBA and NCAA to follow suit, and hopefully the Beats shit will die already like it should have years ago.

Bah no edits on news.
I almost forgot! This reminds me of the M$ Surface Tablets deal with the NFL and how so much staff still refers Surface tabs as "iPads". It'll be funny to see people wearing Bose cans and staff saying "hey pass me those Beats".

It doesn't matter what anyone wears because I bet they're listening to crap music.

Wah. Beats is only popular because it duplicates the same sound as over driving your car stereo speakers and producing that WHUMP WHUMP WHUMP that some find enjoyable.

Bose has always been better than beats fidelity wise.

'Merica, land of the free to wear whatever we let you wear.

You can wear whatever you want. Nobody is stopping you. However, if you are employed by the NFL, or a team that is part of the NFL....you'll have to abide by their rules.

No different than if you worked at Micky D's. If they said no headphones (period) while on duty....there you go. You could stand your ground and be unemployed, but that's your call.

BTW, I said LARGE fries. MORON.

That is like saying that horse shit smells better than cow shit.

Plus their active noise cancellation headphones really work and are fine for sound reproduction of shitty smartphone and mp3 audio. It's not that bose is badly designed cans it's that they alter the sound on purpose some people hate that.

What do you mean. Beats is an apple product. There were no such thing as headphones before apple invented them.

Depending on how their contracts were written, it's entirely likely to be true. Even if it is, so what? It's not like these people were forced into the NFL as slaves or something. They can choose not to sign the contracts and find a different employer.

The NFL is a non-profit. They're not a charity.

Live by the marketing sword, die by the marketing sword.

As for players protesting... I think there is a line in goodfellas about having to pay tribute every week that covers that.

Well some of them did work out a sponsorship with Beats, and boom more $... well until now that is.

This whole thing was signed back in March, where Bose basically got the contract for the headsets the coaches use, which apparently has wording that carries over into all NFL personnel during any NFL related activities. But this was done back in March, why are they getting their titties in a twist about this now?

Pretty much the best I could do, pretty sure those are K240s.

You are right though, the Athlete headphone market really is Beats City.

Bose was good, and their high end stuff is good, but in the 80's & 90's and on, they were pushing the name but with cheap hardware. That reputation has stayed with them for a while...

Bose makes some good products. Their POS home theater speakers give their whole product line a bad image.

The last employee at Bose probably just saw an NFL game today.

They're both crap, but Ghetto? Seriously? 60% of the market is not "Ghetto." Beats looks are it's best asset. Unfortunately, like Bose, they under-perform at every price point.

Now if we could just get a law passed to ban Beats all together.

It doesn't matter what anyone wears because I bet they're listening to crap music.

Ugh, it's so true.
If only there were some good modern music, but I suppose that mainstream music has been crap since the 90's, sadly.

Clearly nobody here has used their active noise cancelling headphones. The best active cancelling on the market period and a decent soundstage

Let's be honest -- if I was some hulking idiot who got lucky enough to be surrounded by idiots willing to give me millions of dollars for playing a game and working out all the time (and having to dodge metric fuck tons of pussy being thrown at your all the time) I'd be willing to wear or not wear anything they wanted me to.

Alas, I'm just a sane person with an average build who, even at the age of 32, does not fully understand the rules of football (nor do I care to) It's hard to feel sorry for someone who makes that kind of money with caveman level intelligence, they are just lucky society is dumb enough to be into sports.

All that money - and most of them still wind up broke and with moderate brain damage.

Bose vs Beats? both total shit. I've been pissed when the last 2 nice cars I bought came with "bose" system... i promptly ripped that shit out and replaced it with something worthwhile. (Boston Acoustics and Image Dynamics)
