Post Your Workstations 2014

Been using the college apt's desk for past three years. Then I scored the desk for $50 few days ago, ended up going nuts with 3x27". Planning to order 50-60" LCD and place it on the wall above the 3x27." This is my first time upgrading my display since I got my Samsung 40" eight years ago.

Then my sister went to college and needed a desk that was easy to dissemble to bring with her, so she took my desk and chair. Of all things, my chair :(


So here's my new setup, no computer yet, still figuring out how to do the wires. Using an old M11X for now :D

I found I wasn't using my computer at home a lot, mostly because the desk was covered in junk and the wrap around screens were too like being at work (where I'm provided a Dell Precision Workstation and triple Dell U2414 setup). It finally reached critical mass this week and I tore it all apart, cleaned and organized.

Sorry about the potato quality...

Before - 18" (on a cabinet to the left; couldn't get back far enough to get it in the picture), dual 22" and 23", two laptops, a rats nest of wiring and a whole lot of junk:

After - I removed the 18" and two 22's, centered the 23" and setup the rest of my stuff around it. One laptop went into storage and all the junk was sorted and discarded/stored as appropriate. I put the power strip and all bricks in the corner and used velcro cable ties to hold wires up under the desk. It's not perfect (mismatched folding tables, meh) but better than before:

Funny thing is despite the huge reduction in screen real estate, it feels a lot more pleasant to use since it doesn't remind me of work any more. I may see what I can do with virtual desktops sometime, but otherwise for what I do at home it works really well. I may upgrade the 1080 23" for a 1440 27" sometime soon but keep the single screen.

I know... admitting to preferring a single screen setup is likely to get me kicked off the [H]. Where can I send in my Geek Card? :D

What desk is that? It kind of looks like the one from staples. Is it sturdy?

Single screen is where its at unless youre driving or flying. Too many screens drive me crazy nowadays. I now have one 34" 21:9 that gives me the expanded width I was craving without the desk domination, gpu stress and heat, and cable nightmare that was nvidia Surround.

Now that Ive been using this monitor for a few weeks - I don;t think I can go back to a 16:9 without feeling like Im missing something.

Oh come on now. As a fellow Aeron owner, I can say with fairly good certainty that you had been looking for any excuse possible to upgrade to the Embody the first chance you got. I have no sympathy. :p

That being said, how are you adjusting to the Envelop? I'll be honest; I have heard mixed reviews. Why the Envelop? How well do you like it after some use?
 
Mine is a lot different than everyone else's for sure :p I'm a cripple, I can barely sit up for more than an hour... So my setup? Right next to my bed :)

Once I can get a third 27", I can get rid of my little old 15" and work on some kind of mounting system to make everything fit better.

Well we stay busy at work hard to keep it clean, but the MC used to look like this :eek: so I think we are doing good. It's amazing how just painting the racks black makes everything better.

Just got a new desk. Still trying to figure out how to set it up. Open to ideas and suggestions.

I'm probably going to get rid of the shelf system for something smaller. It's monopolizing too much real estate on the desk.

Depending on how tall you are, you could put a piece of wood across the top of the shelf system, and use it as a shelf to get your monitor up higher.

Having a piece of wood would have been way too high. However, you gave me a good idea :) Thanks.

The logical response is to move your PC box to the floor. Or buy a secondary shelf for it to sit on. The positioning of those monitors would drive me nuts.

I know your pain with three U3011s.
 
@blairellis

I would suggest flipping your speakers around with the woofers next to each other...that will allow them to "couple" into a better low end sound and your tweeters will be apart giving you a bit more "separation"

I have a y at the end, even though when pronouncing my name it sounds like E at the end, do I still count?
