New iPhone(s) on September 9th

The swiftkey is rather annoying. trying to type a website it just corrects and spaces everything out. Trying to search it corrects something then searches.

Having an UI that behaves like Windows 95 is probably way more intuitive than says Windows 8... it's just what more people are used to. I have to give credit to Apple for making little changes to Windows 95 instead of a big jump like Microsoft did...

P. S. here we go again, I swiped "Apple" on my SwiftKey Flow, and it returned "Asshole" (so did this attempt too!)

Get the average woman off the street with an android phone and ask her what the notification icons in the top bar mean. They have no clue. Most people just try to use android phones like an iPhone and have zero clue about most the features. The average person is more likely to use some of the extra features of the iPhone because they don't get as lost or confused by the UI.

AKA stubborn lazy people, if you don't know what it is then learn what it means. People learned out to use an iphone didn't they?

I find using an iPhone more tedious than anything, I went to update my Wifes iphone and had to delete things just so she could install it. I cant edit options inside native apps without going into the iphone settings, who the hell thought of that??

People endeavor to learn by necessity. If you grab the average person on the street and ask them if they know x86 assembly, will you roll your eyes and call them lazy if they don't? If there is no compelling reason for them to learn the OS's iconography, they will not endeavor to learn it. And that's perfectly fine. Bluetooth, WiFi and location services work just fine without users knowing what their icons are.

You aren't going into the iPhone settings, you're just going into Settings. It's intended to encompass all settings, options and preferences across the entire phone. You can think of it like Windows' Add/Remove Programs (or, now, the badly-named Programs and Features) in that it aggregates an option for all apps.

The person who thought of that, by the way, is a smart man/woman. Regrettably, developers honor the system to varying degrees.

iPhone != standard. People who refuse to learn to use the bare minimum of thegadgets they own are morons and deserve to suffer.

There's nothing more confusing about Android's UI, esp now that iOS has copied most of the features anyway. You're talking about someone who switches from iPhone -> Android, not the average person.

Or do you think the millions of people outside US who use Android exclusively don't know how their phones work?

iOS is more like Windows 8 to me. If you want to do anything with the stock interface you cant get to it easily without taking extra steps to get to it.

iOS is made for simpletons who are scared of a more "complicated" interface

You guys are all talking crap, but the proof is in the sales. Most average (by average, I mean people who aren't tech savvy) people enjoy using the iPhone because it is easier for them to use.

This idea that iOS is for simpletons is a joke. There are many intelligent people who use iPhones but aren't the most tech savvy because they have other things to do with their time than to play around with their gadgets.

Apple designs their products with the masses in mind. There's nothing wrong with that. If I were running a tech company, I'd run it like apple and make choices for my users so that they don't have to even think about it.

I, myself, I am a tech-geek. I would build my own computers. I code. I used to heavily customize/hack every device I used. Now? I have a Mac and an iPhone and don't care to spend the time to customize my phone or device exactly to my liking. 95% of the decisions Apple makes for me on my devices are pretty good and I am more than content. They certainly make better overall decisions than Google and the other android manufacturers when it comes to UI, but that's ok for you guys that want to customize exactly to your liking. If you like to spend your time on that, more power to you. I just don't understand why that's such a big deal to people on something like a phone. I know people have their reasons but their reasons are never quite compelling enough for me.

I've had conversations with average people (anecdotal obviously) that have switched from iPhones to Samsung or other android devices. When you ask them why they switch, girls usually give answers like "because I think iphones are stupid!" Why are they stupid? They can't articulate why nor they know what 80% of the features are on their device. The guys just that switch say they like it more for the bigger screen and not much else, but that has been rectified now. I did hear a guy say he switched because the Galaxy has more megapixels and ram on the phone. Yes, obvious noob who doesn't know much about tech and is just regurgitating a comment he probably read on a blog. I suspect most people are like these noobs I've come across.

They typical [H] user is in no way representative of the real world when it comes to tech choices.

And man, this picture makes me wanna vomit, and just another reason i HATE the iPhone still. A screen full of app icons, like someone left the app drawer open is so outdated, and ugly, and cluttered and just nasty looking. Come on Apple, your better than this, revise it already.

based on that pic below, is like Kryptonite to me, that ugly outdated OS will keep me a galaxy, far, far away from the Apple store.

What you are complaining about is actually a big reason the iPhone is so successful. People use their phones for their apps and they just want to quickly tap on the app they want to use, whether FB, IG, Kik, Snapchat, Twitter, Tinder, or whatever else. They couldn't care less about putting widgets on their screen.

One of my clients is a venture capitalist in San Francisco who manages a $200 million fund that seeds capital to about 35 hi-tech startups. Some of the fund's biggest successes include Pandora, Ban.jo, and Drobo. This guy also is a former NFL lineman with 3 Super Bowl championships. He's all-in with Apple products like the iPhone and iPad. He says they're dependable and do exactly what he needs. But, now I know the awful truth. My client is just scared of a complicated interface.

I'm sure the boys in Cupertino are crying their eyes out over you.

I know you're trying to be sarcastic but nothing you said about this client actually contradicts what he said.

No one is arguing that iOS isn't easy to use. The thing is, Android is just as easy to use. So is WP, arguably even more so. And iOS copies Android features precisely because their users demanded them.

before - Apple and users claim notifications, quick settings are 'too complex', 'iOS is simple and meets our users' needs'
after - look at our wonderful notification center, control center which makes iPhone so much better.

The idea that 'iOS is easier to use' is total nonsense perpetuated by Apple fans. 'Apple designs their products with the masses in mind' is a good example - what do you think other companies design products for? Aliens?

He basically called everyone who uses an iPhone an idiot who couldn't deal with the complications of android. I guess I'm too dumb to use an Android phone, but I can go to school just fine. I guess I'm an idiot too.

I agree that Android really isn't any more difficult to use once you figure it out, however, that's just not the case for the average user--they don't figure it out. We are tech geeks, of course it won't be more difficult for us once we figure it out, especially on a pretty simple touchscreen interface. The average person, however, is borderline retarded when it comes to tech. But tech-geek or not, iOS is initially easier to figure out than Android.

Android has a much larger market share than iOS yet iOS dominates as far as actual usage because people have an easier time figuring out how to use iOS.

Even during the last holiday season, many more purchases were made over iOS devices than Android devices, despite the difference in marketshare.

People just have an easier time using iOS.

The other thing about iOS is that is prettier than Android and I believe a study has shown that interfaces that are more aesthetically pleasing tend to be seen as easier to use than uglier looking interfaces, even if it is more difficult to use. I think this also comes to play when it comes to Apple products in general.

No one said anything about other companies. Maybe a better statement would be Apple does a better job of designing products for the masses.

Does iOS still do that stupid thing, when you swipe to the left screen, a keyboard pops up, instead of a left screen to the home screen ?

My Brother has the iPhone 5S, and he lets me play with it, and every time after 1 minutes I get so frustrated with the device, I almost throw it down. Because I want to like it, but it feels so limited and Fisher Price toy like.

Like always having to press that big round home / thumb button I HATE that, much prefer stock Android software home key, or Windows Phone software key.

That stupid keyboard popup when trying to swipe to the left screen that does not exist. Why does a keyboard popup ?

The "My Little Pony" theme introduced in iOS7, doesn't Apple allow the most simple basic customization as changing the icon packs and theme ?

Oh well, I'm done, I guess Apple will never make the iPhone I would like again. Which would be a combo of iPhone 6 and HTC One M8 GPE.

Swiping to the left doesn't bring up a keyboard currently. You can get that now by swiping down in the middle of the screen to bring up the Finder / Spotlight search.

And why were you trying to go left on the left most home screen anyway :p

Apple finds that keyboards are generally useful for text input. Your mileage may vary.

Oh really :)

I was talking when I swyped to the left screen of the home screen, a keyboard automatically popped up for some strange reason. There didn't seem to be a left screen at all, just some search keyboard thing ? WTF.

No.

I own both devices and Android is not easier to use. It's not even close.

I understand what you were referring to. The keyboard pops up because you're to enter text into the Spotlight search field. Using the keyboard.

Why would I want it to do that when I swipe to the left screen ? I want that to be another screen for my apps and Widgets, like Calendar Widget. Not force some keyboard to pop up for no reason.

When I want to search for something, they should have a spotlight app icon or something.

Haha nice.

I find Google Now Launcher and Sense 6 UI easier to use than iOS, and they're all way better than TouchWiz. I like Samsung's hardware other than the aesthetics, but I would not be paying for that out of the box bullshit. I will not ruin my warranty just to make it usable. It's not just the UI delay or the launcher. The frigging settings menu system is also stupid as hell. If Samsung comes up with a way to be more like Moto, go pure android and add hardware features no one else has, we're good. It's not that I hate Samsung; I have plenty of Samsung hardware, ssd, etc. I just hate TouchWiz. That shit has got to go. So if your experience with android is 3 years ago or with a Samsung, yes, I would agree that you have a point about Apple being easier to use.

Quite frankly, the reason now people still have a tough time with android is cheap phones and Samsung's... And those account for the majority of Android users.

Sense 6 is pretty ugly and without uniform sizes for the icons. That in itself is pretty terrible. Even Google is trying to eliminate that. From what I understand, the main improvement of it is overall responsiveness. I would not say it is easier to use than iOS. I think most people would find it more difficult to use.

No.

I'll second this statement. I have owned both phones (a Iphone 4 and a Samsung S3) the Samsung has many advantages, but if we are strictly talking ease of use, there is no question Phone wins hands down.

Not to slam Apple, but I think a Phablet should have special abilities over a regular smartphone.

Check this out;
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Full Demo & Hands On

Specifically start watching at the 1:15 mark

IMO the Note 4 is in a league of it's own, compared to the iPhone 6 Plus.

That's great and all, but it's still running an OS designed by a company that siphons data from it's users, with a bloated UI full of, mostly, useless gimmicks. I'm surprised it doesn't have a 3D screen to go with that stylus lol ;)

Don't get me wrong, it has some neat features, and the hardware is nice, but it's nothing special (these days)
