R9 390X Incoming?

It's likely the 390X(?) will still draw 250-300 watts and if you don't want any throttling, you'll need more than basic air cooling.

sincerely i like the idea of included AIO like the 295X if the price its right and enough to compete with the upcoming nvidia gtx 980..

I agree, I really like the AIO cooler solution the 295x2 has...

While I like the option, I wish it *WERE* an option, so those of us and use a full cover GPU block wouldn't be paying $50~$80 more for an AIO CLC we are going to take off and then never be able to use for anything else.

It probably costs less than the Titan cooler.

i'm hoping this doesn't mean that going forward, whenever amd takes a sledgehammer approach to gpu design, all they'll do is slap on an aio cooler and call it a day. as a multi gpu devotee i don't like this at all.

It's kind of funny how the Nvidia forum has been littered with next gen rumor threads for what seems like 9 months now and not a peep from AMD. In fact it's kind of depressing. I wish AMD would open up a little. However, I do not see a default AIO liquid cooling solution being a smart idea despite how neat it might be.

Nvidia made the right decision to invest millions into a cooling solution for the 600/700 cards and I hope AMD realizes the usefulness in that investment. With that said, efficiency would probably be the next best thing as we don't want them to have a runaway situation like some of their latest 220W CPU's.

AMD has always been better at keeping a lid on their next-gen products. Nvidia always has leaks with their upcoming tech. It gives AMD a chance to come out of left field as they usually do after an Nvidia release, just as they did with the R9 series compared to the Kepler series.

GK110 suffers throttling from it's max boost frequencies with the reference cooler, too.

Somehow the review sites (not [H]) jumped through hoops to demonstrate Hawaii throttling but have completely ignored GK110 and continue to show performance with 1 min. benches, instead of warming up the cards. Tom's, because they were showing off Gigabytes aftermarket cooler, showed the ineffectiveness of the Titan cooler in this one review and Hardware.fr always warms up cards and tests inside of a case. They add a couple of fans or, in some reviews, set the fan @85% and up the temp target to 94°C to get GK110 to maintain higher clocks.

Marketing...

People "buy" it up, pun intended :D

I wish they weren't like that. Back in the ATI days rumors were nearly non-stop and it was great. It's what builds hype and momentum.

One of the things I really hated about the 600/700 GPU's currently in my system is the stupid boosting feature. The fact you have to go all out modding the BIOS to switch it off is just annoying and caused me a lot more issues than it helped troubleshooting wise for various applications. It's just an artificial method of boosting performance in reviews and in general that one could have got out of the box from the factory or by overclocking it themselves.

Do this with my Intel processors as well. Turn off the power saving features and OC the base clock to the same boost advertised to prevent the annoying micro-stutters that over time get annoying.

I wouldn't want a default AIO system.

I usually run crossfire and it'd be a big headache having to put two AIOs in a single case - in addition to something like an H100i cooling your CPU. It should just be an extreme option available to people who want to pay extra.

It doesn't bother me if it's on air. I'll most likely end up removing the stock cooler and applying my own cooling. I pretty much only ever use one card now so it's not that big of a deal.

Its going to drop on prices for sure , hold on to your position ,you can get a good one for cheap.

I'm tempted to not open the box of my GTX980s when they arrive tomorrow. 3 more days after that isn't too long.. AAh who am I kidding :D

At that point I'll still be in my return period so lets see what AMD has up their sleeve.

My gut tells me it's something else other than a new High end GPU but mere days will tell.

whatever AMD throw in the GPU market I really hope no see another GPU like the FX9590 was in the CPU and still being hard to compete with a same category intel CPU (specially when they launched as OEM and system builders only overpriced)...

Yea I mean im hoping something to blow our socks off. They did leak a photo of a new GPU shroud. So one can only hope its a new GPU. Not a 290x overclocked to shit.

But I got this gut feeling it will be some bullshit Cpu lol.

Well shite . . . I have a 980 sitting in my cart. I suppose the whole point of these teases is to make guys who are on the fence like me hesitate, and it surely worked.

AMD graphics: awesome.

AMD CPUs: prepare for disappointment.

I can't wait for the 290X successor!

HOWEVER, AMD must be blind if they think Nvidia has nothing up their sleeve. C'mon, a sub 200w 980? Surely there is a 'real' 375w 980 (single chip 990, TItan2, etc.) just waiting to release as soon as AMD make their announcement.

Basically:
AMD: hey everyone! Look at the gra....

Nvidia: HEY EVERYONE LOOK 980Ti
