I'm having a problem with my PC. it starts for 10 seconds and then shuts off and tries to power back on.

I get nothing on the screen (no bios, motherboard logo)

I don't hear any beeps.

I tried powering it on without the hard drive/ssd, mouse, keyboard, camera, ethernet but it behaved the same way.

I tried the power supply paper clip test https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWXgQSokF4&feature=youtube_gdata

and it seems to be powering on just fine.

I'm not sure what to do.

i have a 2600k, gtx 780, 8gb 1600mhz, samsung 840 250gb ssd,3tb seagate hdd, corsair 950TX 950w psu, gigabyte z68 mobo

Power plugged into the board, ect correctly?

CPU fan spinning? heatsink seated right?

You'd think the screen would do something.

This is the first thing I would check. I always suspect a loose HSF because the computer will shut off to prevent thermal damage if heat isn't being dissipated.

did you reseat the 780? Make sure power is good to the 780, I had a similar issue when one cable came loose on a GTX 480.

I don't have onboard video with this z68 sadly. Don't know where the cmos jumper is but i'll google it.

CPU fan is spinning, PSU fan spinning, every fan is spinning i think. gtx 780 lights up green. heatsink looks fine, wasn't touched in 3 years.

First things I would ask are, was it working fine before, and did you change anything recently.

I know I had issues with one PC where the PSU and motherboard didn't work together.
It would power on, shut down, power on, etc...
PSU was fine, just didn't work with that motherboard.

look on your motherboard for swollen or burst capacitors or a fried voltage regulator. Nothing is plugged into USB right?

I would reseat the HSF on the CPU anyway. I had a QX6700 that hadn't been touched in 3 years, too, when this happened to me. There was nothing visually wrong with the HSF assembly, but when I examined the locking pins one of them was ever so slightly loose. After cleaning and reseating the HSF everything worked fine again (actually rotated it 90 degrees from its original position, too). It wouldn't hurt to reseat it either way.

nothing is plugged into the usb, no swollen or burst caps i can find.

i removed the cmos battery and acciedntally turned on the PC, it did the same thing. i put it back and started it, did the same thing.

Take the RAM out too. See if anything changes.

^This.

I built a PC once that would do the same thing (boots but no beeps/bios), turns out the memory was a dud. I'd try removing them and booting with no memory to see if you can get the system to beep.

And if this changes nothing its time to try a different PSU, CPU, or motherboard.

hey guys, so i tried a few different things with no connectors (USB/DVI/HDMI/etc/etc)

no case fans, hdd, ssd nothing but the essentials.

What I found out was, it stays on when I don't have the GTX 780 plugged in.

stays on meaning the PSU and its fan is on, and the "Phase LEDS" on the motherboard stay on. (i think they turn off after it exits bios)

of course I can't see whats happening in the BIOS because my motherboard doesn't have any video out.

What do I do from here? Do I need a new video card?

More likely a new PSU but it's possible. My money is on the TX psu.

...and you were right on the money.

got a corsair CX750M from bestbuy, plugged it in and it worked.

Thanks everyone for the help, i really appreciate it! :D

edit 10/17/14, dont want to bump the thread. corsair rep on the forum (Redbeard?) didnt answer my PM, but i RMAd my 950TX anyway and got a 1200i in return. pretty cool!
