Nexus 6 speculation

nexus is cheap because they cut corner somewhere
stop expecting top of the line spec

OnePlus One found a way to do it. $350 gfor flagship specs, equally on par with the S5 and One M8 and G3, that all cost $650.

Except of those 4 devices only the very cheapest, the 1+1, is the only one that is even available with 64GB of onboard storage at any price.

If OnePlus can make an amazing phone for $350, without the typical ccompromises that the Nexus phones have, like small battery, or poor camera, etc...

Point is, if OnePlus can do it for that price, then for sure Google can match and beat them with the Nexus 6.

Sure, then we can all try to get our phones on a lottery type system.

Btw, I'd rather have this phone then the 3 you listed. I'm just saying that this type of phone isn't feasible for the masses.

Difference is the OPO is being manufactured and sold by one entity in-house while in the past google was contracting another manufacturer. I don't know if Motorola being the manufacturer will make the difference this time in pricing but I guess its possible.

invitation system + trying to get name out + selling at cost
it's not the same

nexus will be widely available worldwide and like some one mentioned
it's contracted to another company who's out to make profit

One Plus has also stated that they don't expect to make a profit for the first two years as they try and grow their brand. That's not a sustainable business model so their prices will eventually go up or they will not make it.

https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/how-will-oneplus-make-money.12343/

Not plan to make any money for two years: We are fine with not making any money on our smartphones for two years, to give more people the chance to experience the quality of our devices, and help uss build a name.

You guys are missing the main issue. If google tries to sell too good of a phone for too low of a price they will piss off the other phone makers and that could be the in road MS or another company needs. Google has to tread carefully with any device it makes. Oneplus doesn't they need to shake up the industry to attract attention. Also considering they are almost entirely Chinese based their exists a very very high probability like many other Chinese based firms their is some subsidization or support going on to give them a leg up so Chinese makers can break into the phone market.

I think they get away with this by offering a limited amount with no advertising and under the guise of development purposes.

You should probably read who ones the company that makes the phone. Read on other sites that the two companies "do not have the same share holders". Even if the share holders aren't the same, they have to be getting money from Oppo. /speculation.

The Nexus 6 on paper to me is just as good as any other of these larger phones coming out next month. I have owned the Nexus 4 since launch and I have to say its quality is on par with all of the other android devices that have come out.

Any fresh news or just more speculation?

Nothing since all the rumors last month;

- Basically all the sites were saying Motorola for sure has the upcoming Nexus phone.

- Rumors say another Halloween launch, no big event or major announcement, it will just sort of show up end of Oct / early Nov. Just like the last two Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 came out, there wasn't any big Apple style reveal and huge big deal, it just comes out.

- 75% of the rumors are STRONGLY saying the Nexus X will be a 5.9" Phablet style phone. And like 25% saying it might be based off something very close to the Moto X ( 2014 ) 5.2".

- Rumored specs have all been the same; Snapdragon 805...3GB RAM...1440p Screen... but nothing on battery size.

Thanks - I wonder if there may be multiple Nexus-like devices in the running with multiple screen options? I'd like a stock android phablet option, have ever since the Note came around. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself, but it would be super cool if there was more information out there...

Typically great leaks don't come out until a few weeks before launch. So I'd say early to mid October we should get some solid rumors.

Ok, now a whole new rumors comes out on the Nexus 6;

Nexus device(s) coming October 7, 8, or 9th?
http://tktechnews.com/2014/09/15/nexus-devices-coming-october-7-8-or-9th/

October 7 8 or 9 looks to be the time frame for some type of nexus launch

What are we getting? Well a nexus tablet is a pretty safe bet. But sources state there may be phones as well. Yes I said phones plural.
Sources late last week said even HTC could also be working on a Nexus Phone, that puts the rumors at a HTC, LG, and Motorola nexus launch.

Kinda old news that Silver program is in doubt. The leader of that program left Google back a few months ago.

And the Nexus line is here to stay per Google, it's not going anywhere.

Now 'GPE' phones, not sure what they'll do with those ? IMO each manufacturer should all have a GPE version of their flagship device.

I agree, more choice is more better ;)

I can't stand the various other distros of Android and just want stock that will be updated within a reasonable timeframe...why should I need to rely on various additional applications or ROMs to provide that?

This pretty much sums it up, and makes sense why 'Silver' isn't happening = blame the evil carriers  Plus realistically it would';t sell well anyways, if the carriers were against it.

Android silver said to be on hold, its future uncertain
http://www.androidauthority.com/android-silver-on-hold-526430/

In addition, these sources claim the manufacturers were not too eager to join the program, as they would need to give concessions to Google for advertising. Googlers also believed the program would not succeed in mass markets.

This initiative would be great for the tech geeks, but the consumer wouldn’t be as enticed to patronize it. It’s not like Android One, which is expected to get huge support due to its affordable nature. All of these factors turn Android Silver into a big mass of uncertainty, but we do have the Nexus program and Android One to lean on.

I hate to say it but the Nexus and Silver programs just don't have what Google needs to get going. No carrier backing, Google has a hard time with advertising, and selling phones out of contract is a lot harder than the; walk in with $99 and an upgrade available, walk out with a phone sales plan. I've been finishing up my last year at University as an IT student. Of all the people who you would think would see Nexus devices, it would be me. I have seen a total of 2 Nexus 4's, and 1 Moto X in those 4 years on campus. I have seen endless Galaxy phones, iphones, and even a couple Sony Xperia devices. I could walk into just about any general education class on campus and ask who has heard of the new Moto X, and I would put money down than less than 1/5 of the class would raise their hand. Ask the class to name 1 new feature on the iphone 6 and I bet 4/5 of the class could do it.

that's pretty sad...most of my coworkers who went to community college as their primary source of education know about the moto x and nexus phones .....lol

facepalm: Nexus phones are developer phones... If google really wanted to get the phone on all carriers then they likely could. But the Nexus phone isn't meant to compete with other handsets, its meant to bring an affordable platform to developers so that they can test their apps on.

Next-gen Nexus hardware to be unveiled in mid-October, Android L hits November 1st
http://www.androidauthority.com/next-gen-nexus-hardware-529418/

Looking for more details on the matter? Thanks to two different sources familiar with Google’s plans, we have learned that the HTC Nexus 9 will be unveiled on either October 15th or the 16th. Additionally there is mention of new phone hardware ( the rumored Moto Nexus?) and the unveiling of “a new software initiative”, which likely refers to Android L’s final release.

Exclusive: This is ‘Shamu,’ Motorola’s upcoming Nexus 6/X
http://9to5google.com/2014/09/24/exclusive-this-is-shamu-motorolas-upcoming-nexus-6x/

The device we’ve learned about is actually going to pack a 5.92-inch screen, as mentioned above, with QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440. This dense screen according to our calculations comes out to be 498 PPI—a fairly impressive number for any smartphone. As such, it’s going to have a battery that is equally impressive, packing 3,200 mAh to power all of those pixels.

As for the camera, it’s actually going to be a 13 MP shooter on the back, and as previously rumored, we can corroborate that it should have the ability to shoot 4K UHD video at launch. As for the front shooter, the device is going to have a 2 MP shooter that is indentical to the one on the 2nd generation Moto X.

All of this said, these details do not rule out that there might actually be more than one Nexus 6/X from Motorola. Devices with screens of 5.2-inches have definitely appeared in benchmark applications, and it’s hard to deny that those must be real prototypes somewhere in the wild. In fact, Apple just released two devices at one time which would make such a move all the more plausible. Also of note is that with specs this great, we have to consider the slim possibility that this ‘Shamu’ might not even be a Nexus at all. But with the right price tag, it could be the best Nexus ever. Everything that we’ve seen points to this being at least one of the next slew of Nexus devices, but I must stress that there’s definitely a possibility that this could just be a phablet that is up and coming in Motorola’s lineup.

^ That's a big phone.

As someone who normally carries around a tablet (Nexus 7, which I'm looking to upgrade in the near future), I'm still not sure if I want a phablet. Yes, it has a massive, high resolution screen. Then, it's a big phone to carry around in your pocket. I'm really on the fence, I'm not sure if it's a compromise or the best of both worlds, unless I try it for a week or so.

These are still just rumors, and keep this in mind in the new leak;

"but I must stress that there’s definitely a possibility that this could just be a phablet that is up and coming in Motorola’s lineup."

This 5.9" Motorola Phablet, could just be a Moto X Phab, and not the Nexus 6, and the new Nexus may still be a 5.2" model.

I am starting to wonder this. So many articles relating to the Motorola Nexus 6, and or the Nexus X. The specs on all the pages i have seem to read are a Snapdragon 805, with 3gb of RAM, and a 1440x2560 display, with the 13mp Camera. Seems pretty darn close to a Note 4.

I would be happy with the Nexus 6 being a 5 inch device with a Moto X phablet... with a huge battery it might be the ideal Android phone. Just hurry up and release em already!

I will go on record now and predict this;

- Nexus 6 will be a 5.2" device

- There may be a Nexus X 5.9" Phablet, but most likely this 5.9" Phablet is a Motorola Droid device, and not a Nexus.

Specs are correct, the 5.2" Nexus 6 will be running a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, 1440p resolution, 13mp Camera, and no word on battery yet, but please even if this is a 5.2" device, do not copy the Moto X's 2,300mAh battery, but instead do the rumored 3,200mAh battery.

That is my only concern if the Nexus 6 is 5.2", that Google will put in a tiny wimpy battery.

Zorachus, I would think it'll be the opposite.

Nexus X would be the 5.2" or the Moto X rebranded.

Where as the Nexus 6 would be the 5.9" (6") phablet.

And the Nexus 9 would be the tablet...

Just give me a nexus device on Verizon and I'll buy it immediately. Moto X would work if the battery wasn't so terrible.

Nexus 6 with a stylus and Im onboard. No stylus why do do i a 6" tablet near my ear?

Report: Motorola Nexus Will Look Like the Whale Version of the Moto X
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/09/2...ale-version-of-the-moto-x/#comment-1605193447

So, what happened there? I think the timeline is shaping up something like this, but some of this is blatant speculation for the purpose of painting a narrative picture.

Q1 2014: LG is working on a Nexus 6, or some kind of Nexus phone successor.
Q1 2014: Android Silver is being built up and gaining momentum inside Google - they want to announce at I/O, maybe ship in fall.
Q2 2014: The LG Nexus 6 is cancelled as Silver continues to evolve, and Google decides it wants to unveil a Silver handset in its place to get the ball rolling.
Q2 2014: Silver begins to stagnate, negotiations with carriers and OEMs aren't going as planned. An I/O announcement, possibly partnered with Motorola to be called "Moto S," (ilver? hamu? Come on, this stuff practically writes itself) is scuttled. Head of business affairs and architect of Silver Nikesh Arora begins to plan his departure from Google.
Q2 2014: Google decides to revive Nexus using Motorola's unannounced Silver handset. Moto S is killed (in branding only), and becomes Nexus 6 (or whatever it will be called).
I/O: Google announces Android "L," Dave Burke emphatically denies rumors of Nexus phones being at an end, as the deal with Motorola proceeds.
I/O: Motorola, having expected to have a product to announce at I/O (perhaps even to have given away to attendees at a later date), instead gets a chance to promote and demo the Moto 360 extensively.
Q4: Nexus phone and tablet launch alongside Android "L."

As to the possibility of Google working on a smaller, second Nexus device? We don't know. There's been no real evidence to suggest this aside from an untrustworthy benchmark score, but Google's not completely incapable of keeping secrets. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess, unless it leaks out in the coming weeks.
