ASUS Announces ROG SWIFT PG278Q Premium Gaming Monitor

I wonder if the G-Sync module is located somewhere behind the cloud?

It doesn't bother me. The camera also tends to bring out glow much more than what my eyes see. (for both monitors)

I highly doubt its got anything to do with the GSync module, in fact if it is where I think it is then its nowhere near. It looks like just fitting is the cause as some are worse than others. Even perfect ones, there is still a tiny, tiny amount of light you can see coming from this area but its so small its not even an issue. It has been noted in some reviews and TFT central did mention that uniformity was not brilliant when measured (from eye it was hard to tell). It sucks some people have had a couple of bad ones as its a brilliant monitor when it works like it should however take it all with a pinch of salt. Plenty of these monitors around that don't have any issues. If they do crop up then Asus have you covered, and if they give you a hard time well.. post their CEO a box of dog shit.

Just to update you guys, remember earlier I showed how bad mine was and that overclockers would not send me a new one back. I have issued an rma with asus themselves, and they are going to send me a new one. Now I do wonder with asus rma will they give me a brand new rog swift or a refurbished one, I've heard horror stories and am worried now :( I really hope it's not a second hand one after the money I have spent!

You should have spoke to Gibbo as he would have sorted you a new one until you got one that was flawless.

I don't know about ASUS but usually if it's within two weeks from the purchase date you will get a brand new one.

Leave the horror stories alone, you will only find negative experiences if you look for them. Get a decent monitor sorted out and spend your time enjoying it.

Happy with mine now after returning the first one. It's been working quite well but it has some weird jittering going on during the loading screen for LeagueofLegends.. Never saw it before but knowing LOL it could just as well be the buggy game itself.

If by jittering you mean something that resembles brightness flickering, it is a widespread issue with gsync.

There seems to be some big issues with G-Sync right now.

I tried Titanfall and Crysis 3, both of which made my computer reboot when I started trying to play, and the system event viewer showed that a BSOD had occurred.

Thinking that there was just something wrong with those games, I retried a few times / checked for driver updates / ran Windows System File Checker / validated game files / etc. to no avail, I just wrote it off as EA breaking things.

I switched to Hawken, and that worked fine.

After that, I tried a simple 2D game, and got the same system restart problem. At that point, I tried turning off G-Sync, and what do you know? No crash. The video was still corrupted when I played it full-screen, but it looked fine when I played it in Windowed mode.

I still want to track down the issue with running full-screen, but at the least, G-Sync was causing the system to crash and reboot.

nvidia is working weekends right now to get the gtx 980 drivers ready for launch, so you can't expect gsync fixes before that. but I hope we're safe to look forward to some of the obvious gsync bugs being fixed next week or shortly after with new beta drivers

My panel has no issues like that as far as I can tell. It's more akin to how your screen would look if it cycled trough different resolutions. Just looks kinda weird but stops when playing the game.

The random black frames seem to still occur at lower refresh rates on a clean install of drivers. I'm thinking it's time to exchange this unit :(

Only game that im having problems with is TITANFALL in SLI or TRI SLI I got flickering while playing the game, its really annoying.

Just switched to 3x1 Portrait mode and love it so far.

I really need the G-Sync Surround drivers though - playing @ 144Hz is pretty cool - most of the games are around 110 - 120FPS.

I tried ULMB mode and set the refresh rate to 120Hz but for some reason, it seems quite jarring to the eyes - FPS is still around 90 - 100 but I set the brightness to 65 and left Contrast at 50 across all 3 monitors. Any advice on using ULMB properly?

Really want to try out 144Hz G-Sync in Surround! :D

I really glad to see more people trying this as it's exactly what I'd like to do with 3 Swifts. What's your experience with them all in portrait - any viewing angle issues?

Also what GPU configuration are you using? I'm currently running Tri-SLI GTX 780 Ti Classified and even with that I don't expect to hit 100+ FPS in games.

Try 85 hz instead. You don't want your FPS to go below the refresh rate with ULMB.

Yes, you can clearly see this image shift on the right monitor versus the others in the pic. TN will always have big issues in portrait surround, weather you can cope with it is personal preference.

One reason I love the VA FG2421 Eizo in portrait surround. No viewing angle issues and better image quality, but of course compared to the Swift's 1440p they are only 1080p, and larger bezels. Just depends on what area you want to sacrifice.

Not to mention actual useful strobing effect, not seeing anyone saying theyre using it on the swift really. Not looking that hard tho, I'm sure someone is.

The FG2421 has the best ULMB implementation I have seen so far.

I've been using it just fine actually, settling for a pulse width around 50-60. I've only been using it in bf4 where I'm getting about 100 fps average though on the newer dlc maps more around 85 with dips as low as 50 and ULMB is still great, I'm about ready to day it's superior to gsync for first person games even frame rates from 60-90 when I didn't expect it to shine until your holding over 100 fps.

I'm using lighboost at 120Hz, not sure I agree with the suggestion of never having your fps drop below the refresh rate of the monitor in ULMB mode. What is the reasoning there?

When fps is less than the strobe frequency some frames will be strobed twice. This will cause 1) stutter similar to running (triple buffered?) vsync, and/or 2) double images.
Example, 120Hz strobe and 90 fps, every third frame is strobed twice producing double image and stutter. At 120Hz strobe and 60 fps, every frame has a double image but no stutter. (but... the double image can feel stuttery)

Yes, to be optimal FPS should = Hz with ULMB (frame-cap/V-Sync etc). Although it's not the end of the world if FPS dips below once and a while.

Really to get the most out of ULMB you should have a beast PC, lower game detail or a combination of both depending on how demanding the game is. Remember a lot of games max FPS is limited my CPU, not GPU.

Remember when those people were saying no one will buy this at $800?

It is still sold out everywhere.

Whoever said that didn't have a clue. You know what they say about opinions..

Asus have already stated that demand has far outstripped predictions. Really, $800 is nothing for a decent display. If they came out with the "perfect" computer monitor, say DP 1.3, 120 Hz, 4K, 32" with curved strobing OLED, I'd pay like 5 grand for that sucker.

As far as I'm concerned, they just did (QC issues aside). Here's hoping the next batch don't have as many problems.

While the Swift does quite a few items decently, I certainly wouldn't place a 1440p TN panel even remotely near the ballpark for a "perfect display".

Vega, you need to be on their design team!

Is amazon ever going to have these damn things back in stock? I don't mean the 3rd party service that is selling them right now, I mean actual amazon!

Saw one of these at a local fry's but it was the last one and someone ahead of me got to it first :(

OK I really must admit that games fell better with GSYNC at 144Hz over ULMB at a lower Frequency, not sure why since im pumping out a ton of FPS. I guess its all preference.

To get the most benefit out of ulmb, fps should meet the refresh with vsync on. Gsync is for the games when where fps is a challenge. Ulmb will stop motion blur, gsync will stop stuttering/tearing. Unfortunately, they cannot be combined.

It's still a smear fest on games that are capped at 60fps. Like shitty id tech 5.
