It has been a long time since I was active here. I saw a massive drop off in the points, but as I was working on college, I did not take time to figure out why. It looks like PG/VJ/7im have been behaving badly as they always have. I have one box still folding, an i7 2600K/R9 270x. Based upon what I see now, I need to decide if I pull that one offline. Electricity is no longer "free" for me, now it is only partially free (as long as I do not use more than the average user, it is free).
I have been spending the last year and a half finishing my college degree. Congrats to me, I have earned my BS in nuclear engineering technology. Now that I am done, I realize that I have been building "gaming" rigs for the last many years, and not gaming on them as it would hurt my folding. Now that I have completed my degree, I have been updating my main desktop, and it is ready to game. I do not think that I will start folding on it, as I will just get crap for points. I does however play Bioshock Infinite just fine.
To make a long story short, I've been at this 10 years now, and it does not seem to be fruitful. I will most likely move on to other things, but I wanted a chance to say hello again.

John

When you say it doesn't seem fruitful, do you mean in number points or the research?

jfb9301, you will find many of the members are switching over to BOINC projects. WCG is a very popular one for CPU's and GPUGrid is popular for nVidia GPU's. AMD GPU's are limited in the bio/medical options, but have options elsewhere. If interested, just let one of us know and we can get you squared away. Either way, thanks for the help you have given.

Hi! Nice to see you come here to check things... I'm doing the same haha

As for F@H, I noticed there is still a lot of drama with the PG and FF staff... I also wonder if it's fruitful to fold for them or do other things with a more understanding staff.

Hi and Welcome back

Drama as always with F@H, ultimately its down to you to decide if you want to move on, stay where you are or shut down completely.

A lot of us here still believe in F@H and the work, just not the ass clowns managing it. Personally I still fold and probably always will - but I'm not as active any more either here or over at FF

just my £0.02

Hello.

Lots of old timers in here.

Nice to see you!

Mainly points. The research is there, but it so offset by the constant drama that I really don't think it is worth it to me anymore. I'll leave the one box running, but I won't add any others.
We can only say we will take our bats and balls and leave so many times before we have to actually do it to prove the point. Though I doubt VJ/PG/7im will even notice. Heck if I quit folding altogether, the first thing I would never miss is 7im. That jackwagon is probably the single most effective counter-advertisment for folding that ever existed, he even eclipses VJ.

What's the drama about? Also, why are points important?

Hi jfb9301, I'm still folding because I believe in the project but I'm not a huge fan of the management of it either.

It is not about the points. It is about being f*cked in the @ss and being told it is for your own good. Roughly translated.....

Just stopped by to see what was up as well, and damn fellas, has been a while. Alan, Xil, Poc, Gil, 420, 450, jfb, Natahn ... all you guys. Good to see your all still around.

Beers and tamales guys, miss ya all... don't forget the beers and tamales.

Hiya boys, been awhile for me too. Went through a major change in life last year and only had 2 old AMD rigs steadily folding for a few K per day. Retrieved my main i7 rig now and have been folding on it again and boosted my points up a bit. I'll continue to fold for the time being until I get more settled in here and I'll retrieve my Server then as well. Beers all 'round ...

lets not talk bad about mods on other forums... regardless of who they are please

but anywho, you should join the WCG, it's less dramatic in here :)

What's "FF"? Am pretty sure PG = Pande Group (SP?) but FF doesn't ring a bell.

I'll be honest, the reason I'm not adding to F@H is that their client doesn't support SOCKS and I'm too lazy to figure out something else that'll work for the borgs that I'm able to bring on now and then. BOINC is interesting as it offers a lot of options and easy setup; but for me, I'll always have a soft spot for F@H as it's where I (and I presume most of us) started.

I was not aware that he was a mod... again.... :(

anyhooo... it's rather pointless. Along comes core 16...... 80KPPD to 1KPPD.... good job you nuked the points for GPU.... I think I'm done folding.

Not wanting to twist your arm so just an FYI, but core 16 is EOL, no more projects are being generated for it and once the current ones are gone, core 16 is gone. And 7im is not a mod, just an annoying person that will not go away

Hey, old member here too. I stopped Folding years ago after the fiasco with Pande and the old AMD graphics cards (first generation AMD graphics cards didn't prove useful for Folding, but Vijay basically told us to piss up a rope when we had issues with his handling of the whole thing). That and I couldn't justify the large electric bills anymore.

Did anything useful, research-wise, ever come out of Folding? I would hope so, after all these years...

over 100 papers have been released - not sure if any have led to a drug or not but they have indicated that a few of the projects have helped in the development so its entirely possible. Currently they are pushing back towards cancer research so here's hoping for more success

Believe it or not AMD are actually having fewer problems than NV at the moment

So people are still alive here :D Didn't visit since earlier last year and noticed it had gotten a bit... quiet

Still not returning to DCing here since I lack the hardware (still only on laptop) and electricity prices here in Germany are insane (yay, 'green' power). Maybe soon :)

Yeah, still alive and kicking...and VERY quiet compared to the glory days a few years ago.

still here.Still folding, for now. I retire from the Navy soon and will have to shut rigs down until I am making the pay to keep them up and running.

Nice to see you are still alive and well!

Wow, so many familiar names in here. Couldn't help but stop and say hi. Haven't had the time or resources to run anything for a while but still look thru the forums here sometimes.

Always good to see familiar names... :)

Thanks :)

Working a full-time job and writing a (actually two) books on the side plus dealing with medical issues really has taken it out on me, hence me not visiting the forum as frequently as I used to. Still surviving, though :)
