ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) today announced the Rampage V Extreme, an Intel® X99 chipset-based gaming/overclocking motherboard engineered to take the latest LGA 2011-v3-socket Intel Core™ i7 (‘Haswell-E') processors and DDR4 memory to their limits.

The Rampage V Extreme supports quad-channel DDR4 memory and is equipped with exclusive technologies to aid overclockers that include the patent-pending OC Socket, OC Panel, Safe Boot and ReTry buttons. Thanks to its specialized design and features, the ROG team has already broken 28 performance records with the Rampage V Extreme.

The Rampage V Extreme remains cool with DirectCU direct-contact cooling, X-Socket II and Fan Xpert 3 technologies. The motherboard takes the latest connectivity features to extremes, with dual 10Gbit/s SATA Express ports, a built-in 32Gbit/s PCI Express 3.0 x4 M.2 slot and 802.11ac Wi-Fi with a 3x3 antenna configuration. For gamers, the Rampage V Extreme has a number of innovations for an enhanced user-experience - featuring SupremeFX 2014 for immersive audio plus Intel Gigabit Ethernet and GameFirst III for no-lag networking.

Call me when it's got an ISA slot. :D

That thing looks fantastic. For $500(The listed price at the egg) it better be...

Maybe this is my Christmas present if we get a house(or are under contract for one) by the end of the year.

Why did Asus shrink the form factor from E-ATX on the RIVE down to ATX for this series?

"This extended ATX motherboard is rammed full of the latest ROG features and functions."

ASUS needs to get its marketing straight. The board is not 12x13 and the first slide from ASUS on the [H] article that lists the specs calls it an ATX form factor.

SATA 10 Gbps? What would that be called? SATA 4?

Also it's impossible to get a SATA 10 Gbps HDD or cable, so what's the point?

I was wondering that too but i think it's called Express because it uses the PCI Express bus. So those 10Gbps ports would use the same controller/bus if a PCI Express SSD was installed.

Would be sweet if it's a new SATA spec though.

The direct onboard M.2 socket is cool. Some folks might not even use those SATA cable sockets.

Platform will be around for a while so there will be more coming at some point

I just did a Bing search for the Rampage V Extreme, of course Bing thinks you really want the Rampage IV Extreme link, so Bing puts up a link for that, when you insist by clicking on the Rampage V Extreme link, the top 3 links of the RVE search are all about the Rampage V Extreme, below that it's a mixture of links... Of course the Rampage IV Extreme link just shows Rampage IV Extreme down to the related searches... I do realize that the RVE is pretty new, though I wonder does Bing know about the RVE? Sounds like they might not, yet at least. Remember YMMV, as the search engines will probably change stuff as the web does.

Oh and I don't have a thing against the RIVE at all or any Asus motherboard for that matter, I might be buying a used RIVE in a few months. I do like the new RVE, but it's just not within My current buying power or schedule as of yet. Did I just do this for kicks? Yeah, I guess so. :D

On a more serious note, this Rampage V Extreme(RVE) is a fantastic looking motherboard, I do own an ASUS Rampage III Extreme X58 motherboard(RIIIE), an ASUS P7P55D Pro and an EVGA X79 Classified motherboard, the EVGA has a bios that is IVY-E compatible. The P7P55D Pro is dying and will when I get the case and cpu cooler be replaced by the EVGA, as the ASUS R3E is already setup for water cooling and the video card I have in the P7P55D is not compatible with the R3E as the card is setup for closed loop water cooling, whereas the R3E is all custom. The EVGA X79 is within My current reach at the moment, the ASUS X58 is a long term project.

Man, I'm so close to pulling the trigger on this, but I need to see some good reviews first. The massive "Extreme" logo on top of the I/O is... gawdy, but I'm a function > fashion kinda guy so I can over look it. The Deluxe is a nicer looking board IMO though, also very temping.

The logo is probably just a sticker you can pull off anyway, that's what I'd do.

I really don't think it's a sticker but I could be wrong. The outline is so reflective it ends up looking white. Totally clashes with the rest of the board.

Basing it based on the look of the bottom heatsink "cover" as well, I'd say they're both definitely stickers, or at least a piece of metal cover stuck on with something that's removable (if only by force :D).

Either way, Haswell-E is looking amazing, it's what we've wanted for a long time, too bad it's not the right time for me to upgrade, going back to school is taking it's toll on the fun-funds.
