I haven't looked into this for a while but Taiyo was the best or JVC. I bought some Verbatims from Best Buy and almost half of the disks were bad. Is there any one brand that you guys would recommend?

Sounds like a bad burner to me. Or you you got some disks that were damaged by heat exposure.

Nah definitely not the burner. I've used my internal and a USB external and this 100 pack of disks haven't had much luck. I've used my work computer with its internal and even my MacBook. My old batch of TY still works great, no coasters at all.

I stopped buying shit media like Memorex a few years ago. Tired of every few disc being bad. I buy 50-100 count Verbatim disc from Newegg now.

FYI: "Memorex" and "Verbatim" don't make their own media and can change manufacturers over time.

I mention this because i've got some 8-9 year old DVD+R Memorex that read fine and some similarly aged Verbatim that barely read in places. (not to mention also buzzed like heck when spun up to max speed by the drive)

Aka: results vary, though overall i'm surprised to have almost no problems with such old media.

I've never had trouble with any DVD-R media, every problem has been burner trouble.

JVC Taiyos still, although I only had one bad disc out of 225 from my HP discs.

Verbatim with MCC I've used for years without a single bad burn. Even the best media can torch if the burner has funky firmware or the laser is dying.

Verbatim makes most of their discs in Taiwan but their lower recycled versions are made in India and have a bad rep already for high coaster counts.

I have a few boxes of RW's from <2003 that still read and write without issue, those were made in Taiwan too.

I have since moved to BD-R which are now under <$1 per disc which is cheap plus almost 5x the room of DVD it means condensing down/less discs.

Burned a few dozen of Verbatim without issue. Even the BD-RW's are now more reasonable for that junk you might change your mind about saving.

Taiyo Yuden and some JVC (JVC media is mostly Taiyo Yuden)

Taiyo Yuden; Falcon currently my favorites in terms of failure rate and longevity.

Sony and Phillips - pretty good write failure rate; can't comment on longevity (haven't been using them long enough to test this out).

Currently using some HP -DVR that are CMC Mags. So far so good.

I'd stick with TY and Falcon if price isn't a concern.:p
