Well it's about damn time. It only took a few investigations, a bunch of people getting sick and a petition signed by 23,000 people.

Nevertheless, Apple decided to order its suppliers to stop using benzene and n-hexane during the final assembly of iPhones, iPads, iPods, Mac computers and various accessories. What's more, Apple is requiring all its factories to test all substances to ensure that they don't contain benzene or n-hexane, even if the chemicals aren't listed in the ingredients.

Does this mean the fanDroids can now claim Android has increased their share of the birth defect market?

I wonder if whatever they are replacing them with is really safer or just hasn't had it's problems discovered yet.

This is a croc. Everyone knows it's actually Ecstasy and LSD that Apple's removing from its products. This is going to just *kill* sales...

people arent just getting 'sick', they are getting cancer and dieing a miserable painful death because of the nasty chems used to build electronics.. and the cost increase to switch to safer chems is minuscule..

While I hail HardOCP's ability to bash Apple with the best of them, I'd ask how many cell phone vendors overall use these chemicals to get a sense of how common this is (e.g., Motorola, Huawei, HTC, LG, Xiaomi, etc. etc.)

P.S. FTR, Android is my platform of choice.

Most, if not all the others. Those chemicals are standard in electronics production, and the cost of the alternatives is not minuscule, especially to the low margin vendors. Apple has plenty of profit margin to absorb this, the rest, probably can't make the switch without a price increase.

People end up with Parkinsons-like tremors, from the hexane, just so that the screen will dry 2 seconds faster, rather than using alcohol.

Watch this documentary, gives you a very clear picture of what those chems do to the chinese slave workers, been a while since i watched it but i think they said it would add a $1 to the cost of the device to switch to safer chems

And shit yeah. I mean it was the iphone that did that. Not the fact that benzene is added to gasoline like.. well all the time really.
