Who says the days of the family doctor making house calls is a thing of the past? In reality, it looks like the days of house calls is just beginning to catch hold; virtual house calls, that is. The doctor will Skype you now. :D

Electronic visits or telemedicine is comprised of electronic document exchanges, telephone consultations, email or texting, and videoconferencing between physicians and patients.

While this should be sufficient for a vast majority of people, I can see quite a few people being very stubborn and still insisting to see an actual doctor for minor things, usually the type of people who feel they need to go to the ER because of a flu or something

Initially I thought this was a bad idea. Then I started to think about all of the "ouchies" and "booboos" and "coughs" that people go to the emergency room for. Maybe virtual doctors will keep the hypochondriacs out of the ER and help keep my insurance cost down.

If you go to the ER for a non-life threatening complaint....They should hit you in the head with a tack hammer and throw your ass in the morgue.

I know someone who does this currently. The interesting thing is that she is actually seeing 3-6 patients at a time, strategically muting them, so they are unaware of each other, then billing insurance for all of them separately.

This is good for people that need to see a doctor for the flu, stomach bug, or other similar minor contagious ailment. Keeps them from having to go outside and risk exposing others and/or wasting time waiting in a waiting room.

Hey now, a trip to a hospital's Emergency Department is a great place to go for the family and friends. :D

I call bullshit on these numbers.. Specially with the pathetic overpriced broadband in this country... If you even have it

I have been in many 10 person video Skype calls with a 5Mbps DSL connection. for a 2 person call, you will do just fine.

LOL. My doctor doesn't even "do email" :) All comms are by fax only.

WTF is a Fax ?

Um, hello? No dsl, nor cable at my house.. We aren't even in a rural area, but still nothing more than the overpriced 3g/4g services... It will run skype, but hell, at 15 a gig in overages, i'll just drive to see the damn doctor
