MCE 7 experiences persistant high cpu usage after browsing movies

I noticed recently, maybe a week ago that for some reason after watching a movie my cpu usage by EHSHELL would be pegged at around 30%. I didnt pay attention to it figuring it was working on something. Fine whatever. Today I watched a movie and noticed the same thing. After a bit of investigation I realized CPU usage would get pegged at 30% any time after I went into and left the movie library(watching a movie or not). I have 200 titles in there right now.

I tried removing all jpg's thinking maybe one was corrupted, I tried cleaning out all the *.db files and *.xml files and nothing. Each time it would rebuild and cpu usage would get pegged after stepping foot into the movie library. I even went into the media player folder under app data and deleted its DB files that it generates.

I have no idea what could be causing this.

Anyone ever experience something like this with MCE 7 and a large movie library?

Honestly, I am so tired of MCE and its bullshit that if I cant figure this out I am just going to go XBMC with the plugin that lets you access it from within MCE.

*cough* I've kinda already done that last option you presented only I use plex given it's nice remote access features.

Media Center basically only gets used for Live TV (almost never) or recorded content (again rare as I usually play it from my desktop after cutting the commercials)

not a lot of help here other than the suggestion to go for it, stuff like xbmc and plex are just kinda superior to Media Center. :)

I already have Plex installed to feed the phones and tablets. I didn't think to use Plex as the front end, I don't even know if they offer a local client. I'll need to look.

Otherwise, I am so sick of the BS that MCE experiences every few weeks that I want to almost go back to a DVR and use XBMC exclusively on the HTPC. Soon, I have a feeling.

Tell me how you cut the commercials in MCE 7, I thought their were no programs to modify the WTV files?

Yeah, there's a windows plex client that includes a media center button.

Far as commercials or playback goes I either use VLC to just play the files directly or VideoReDo to cut the things. There are a few programs out there, see the software section on videohelp(.com). There's bound to be a converter or something else out there.

I use wmc as my tv backend for xbmc, I use mcebuddy to cut the commercials https://mcebuddy2x.codeplex.com/releases/view/116426.

Does it work with Copy once content?

Edit:
Will this http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Add-on:PVR.WMC Work with copy once stuff?

Also, I installed XMBC and disconnected my movie library from WMC. Conclusion: The size of the library is what caused WMC to start consuming unnecessary CPU resources. Going in and out no longer causes the issue I was experiencing. I also installed the plugin to move between between the front ends and so far so good.

I dont have any pay channels to verify this but my understanding it that only WMC can view/play copy once content. I dont believe mcebuddy will process them. I think it stops when it sees the flag

Correct, only WMC will record copy-once flagged channels. Nothing that plugs into XBMC etc can play/record copy-once channels

Got it. The way you said it I thought something changed. I got excited for a second.

However, an updated version of MCE buddy is a nice consolation prize. I will finally try it out.

XBMC looks to be working. It seems to be a little more picky when it comes to the naming conventions of the files than MCE or Plex.

What skin are you guys using? I tried back row and got dizzy from all the options and went back to confluence.

Spent the last hour or so playing with XBMC. All I gotta say is....wow, I have been missing out. What a great interface and fast as hell to boot. Its very very impressive. I am also really greatful for that integration plugin that makes it easy to get into and out of it from MCE. Most importantly, wife approves. I also noticed that media center is faster, I guess because it doesnt have those huge libraries anymore.

One thing I dont get though, how is it playing back videos, is it using my codec pack or decoding everything on its own?

I use Aeon MQ5 as my current skin since it gets the highest WAF. Aeon Nox also got a thumbs up but MQ5 has better views imo.

xbmc has its own internal player is uses for tv/video. it does a decent job for most video. I also use mpc-hc with madvr as an external player for my higher quality rips where I want the best picture quality possible. you can add an external player in the playercorefactory.xml file and set up the rules for when the external player is used
