Browncoats the world over will have cause to rejoice in the near future when the entire original cast of the short-lived series Firefly will reunite to reprise their roles in the Firefly Online game. The series only lasted one season, but has never been far from the hearts of the fans. Shiny.

Loved the show, but I am really not an MMO kind of guy. Best of luck, and hope it works out though.

Maybe its a cash grab, but I appreciate how they were able to find gamers for the trailer that are so very representative of the demographic they are marketing to.

My initial response to this that it's just a cash grab for firefly fans :/

I'm actually surprised that the cast is lending themselves to this garbage, must be a decent paycheque. Of all the things a Firefly release could be, it ends up some crappy mobile phone port.

You know they are going to fuck this up. The Firefly universe only encompassed one episode and it was this slapdash mix of chinese icongraphy and some language with english and the old west as a function of the frontiers of space exploration. So there really wasn't a time to flesh it out say like Star Trek has been fleshed out or even how the Star Wars Universe has been fleshed out. Outside of the constant threat of Maruaders, how is this no different than say Eve Online?

Reavers, man. Reavers.

Because it's Firefly. Everyone will want a Firefly class ship, with a crew similar to the Serenity (dibs on Wash). It's a generic MMO with Firefly slapped on it. Take away the Firefly stuff, and it looks like a bland, substandard MMO. A good game would be built on a kick ass game using Firefly. Not a Firefly game. Big difference. I can make a Firefly games. I can't make a kickass game using the Firefly universe.

Not very high expectations on this one. Might try it, if it's cheap. Otherwise, I'll pass... I am a leaf in the wind, watch how I soar. Away from this game.

Even if the paycheck isn't great, those actors appreciate their fans (and themselves with the show would have stayed on) too much to skip out. It's not like somebody else is doing a great Firefly game...maybe that'll happen another 10 years down the line, and it's not like fans will be pissed then because there was another Firefly game that was a crappy cash-in..

I really hope that the game comes out well and is enjoyable, but I have to say I'm skeptical. From the gameplay it could be a halfassed, pseudo-mobile type game. However, I don't want to dismiss it just on the grounds of being isometric. Maybe it is a way to keep costs down while still providing features? After all, Shadowrun Online seems like it could be quality and keeps a similar perspective.

I totally understand the drive for a Firefly game, though how others have said it doesn't have quite the universe-building culture of some other sci-fi space travel tales (ie Star Trek), but if people REALLY want the closest thing to actually having the "Mal Reynolds Experience"...well then, there's another game...Star Citizen! SC is building the "best damn space sim ever" , has been fleshing out a comprehensive universe, and is planning for the player able to engage in the most quasi-realistic experience in all elements of gameplay. Many of the circumstances and tropes found in FireFly could reasonably happen in Star Citizen during normal play, rendered with immersive detail.

Hell, Chris Roberts has stated about bringing celebrities and fan favorites into Star Citizen (both voicing characters, and likely both video and renders), as he has done with past games. It would be a great nod to the fans to draw up some in universe characters that are "just close enough" to certain fan favorite archetypes, and ask the Firefly cast to represent them, with a nod and a wink to the fans!

I wish this game the best, but I've seen plenty of licensed games ruined so I have low expectations...

wow that vid gave me douche chills it's so lame with the paid actors pretending to want to play the game.. i liked ff it was a good show but i doubt the game would be half as good

They were "youtube celebrities". They must have googled "dork" and found those guys. But when your game looks like crap, they had to show anything but the actual game.

It was 14 episodes plus a full-length movie, not just one episode.

It was supposed to be 6 seasons and a movie, dammit! :)

My son keeps asking to watch it again so we can get ready for season 2. Then he laughs at me.

I just can NOT believe they are doing this, a cheap IOS mmo game.

Firefly has such a rabid fanbase they should have got someone like Bioware or Obsidian to make a proper single player RPG a la KOTOR or such, that would have been so much mor efitting.

A Star Citizen Mod depending on how well the mod system works might be a very good Firefly game. I bet someone will make something ...will it be good...well the game isn't even out so we'll see.

Per previous poster, am not and never will be a monthly paying MMO person. Best of luck though.

Fucking pathetic and I have every episode including the movie. Pathetic! Move on nothing to see here.

Well... If it took to making an entire game to simply get a clip 3 second clip of firefly's captain... It was worth it. Well, not for those that invested time or money into this game or those buying it... But for those that simple watched the end of the trailer and walked away, it was worth it.

God dammit I want another season of firefly.....

I watched all episodes of Firefly and tried to watch Serenity.

Firefly was an alright show, 7/10, IMO. I couldn't bear through the movie, it felt like there was nothing going on, ultra boring, poor plot.

I don't know what people see in Firefly. Is it only about the idea?

Because all people like the same things equally, the answer to your question is obviously...yes, it's only about the idea. The characters, the plots, the scripts, and the actors were all terrible and the people who say they wish it hadn't been cancelled are basing that entirely on space+wild west+uncaring, possibly evil government.

Does that mean Richard Castle is dead? (Most recent season finale of "Castle" for those wondering what I'm asking.)

The characters, the comedy, the universe it was in. Whole space cowboy style. Men in blue gloves. The mystery.

Overall, it wasn't that great of a show until it started picking up towards the end. Unanswered questions, etc.. Great show once you get into the mythos of it all. As a standalone for a general audience? Meh.

I love it, though. I found it very entertaining. But, I've been know to enjoy other shows that didn't really do too well...

Way better things to make a game of than this... The show sucked... The ship was pitiful.. It had no weapons.. The crew had no weapons.. No pistols aren't weapons they are western crap for westerns which are crap too.

Would rather have a buck Rogers game, or flash Gordon... Something with lasers in it, make another startrek or starwars game instead.

Available on Steam, March 2019.... don't encourage them, they'll be lucky enough if they even get the existing game to market by the end of next year, lol!

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but depending on how you went into the series could influence how you viewed it. That is like going to watch Space balls and expecting a serious sci-fi movie and then complaining about some of the parts or some of the cast. That movie was horrible, there wasn't a serious moment in the movie, they had a guy with a massive helmet for no reason..... This show was kind of the same, if you went into it expecting a serious space series you would be let down. If you expected a cheesy series that made little sense it was fine.

I just wanted to bang the mental chick with retard strength.
