Nexus 6 speculation

- So the latest rumors of Motorola making it, do you all think that's legit ?

- 5.9" screen size rumor seems way off to me. I can't see the Nexus phone jumping up into phablet territory all of a sudden. To go from 5" on one model, to 5.9" on the next, is a jump I've never seen any phone model make in the course of one year. The typical screen size jump from one model year to the next is like .2" or .3" larger. Like the HTC One M8 went to 5" from 4.7" the year before, or the Note 3 at 5.7" up from 5.5" before.

- My guess is the new Nexus phone having a screen size between 5.1" to 5.3" no larger. I suppose maybe they might jump up to 5.5" to compete directly against the OnePlus One, and show them how to build an affordable smartphone, and sell it :D

Do love the codename.
I got a Note 2 and it hard for me to imagine using something larger. Pocket-ability isn't a end all be all factor for me but it is on the board. Everybody's different but Note2-S4/S5 is where my likely is for form factor.

Thing is, the Nexus 5 had a small screen even when new. Other thing is, like the G3 shows...you cut down on wasted bezel space you can cram a larger diagonal screen in a still small form factor

See above

Seeing as how the Nexus 10 is still available on the Play Store it's possible the new 5.9" size is legit and they will keep the current Nexus 5 as is.

I'm at a party, can't post the link. But new rumors this weekend.

HTC is making the Nexus-Six.

- 5.5" screen
- Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM

Google wants to make a OnePlus killer, show them they can maker a netter phone, for same price.

I really do not think that Google is at all intimidated by OnePlus or has any aspirations at one upping them either.

Yea...people already get excited at the prospect of a Nexus device and gladly pay retail...Because of actual manufacturer OS support that doesn't take 6months to a year to update, and further gets more than 1 or two updates before being abandoned. Oh yea, and the lack of OS overlay bloat.

After the fail of One+1, and the conflicting reports of G3...I really want a Nexus with a larger screen. I don't want to have to keep with fucking Samsung and Knox and lord-knows-when-updates.

Google Nexus 6 Release Date and Specs: HTC In-Charge of Creating the Phone
http://www.breathecast.com/articles...cs-htc-in-charge-of-creating-the-phone-17997/

One thing is for sure, the Nexus 6 will not be created by LG as the previous versions have been. On the contrary, it will be HTC’s turn to create Google’s next release. LG had been adamant about not knowing anything about the development of the next Nexus phone.

There were rumors before that LG won’t be creating the Nexus 6 and that HTC was taking control of the project, and it seems that the rumors have been proven to be true.

The phone will be run by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7GHz Krait 450 processor, faster than most same-size smartphones in the market. The Nexus 6 will also be having an Adreno 420 graphics processor and 3GB RAM. will have a screen size of 5.5-inches with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. The screen will be boasting a pixel density of 534ppi ensuring the sharpest of displays.

Well that is one giant rumor masquerading as journalism.

Not a single citation or source or claim to even having a source.

I agree, and never ever heard of that website before. I was looking for a link to the rumored info, but nothing, so... Didn't even notice at first, but that website isn't even a tech / gadget site, but some holy roller freaky "Christian" website :(

That article was referred to me by a Facebook friend, that is super nerd gadget guy, only posting links to news that typically turn out to be very accurate.

I'll tell you some things that are not speculation -

- it will come with a new version of Android
- there will be a mad frenzy to port it to custom roms, CM team will announce plans and a number of AOSP teams will also start work
- even after 6 months, none of the custom roms will be stable, with various niggling issues and random reboots the order of the day and people flashing nightlies and various kernels
- the only devices roms will work on are original Nexus 6, which ironically doesn't need any roms as they'd provide nothing different except a few extra features that would be easier to use via Xposed

A Nexus release only matters for those buying the phones yet its treated like a big deal in the Android community. No one learns from history.

I hope it doesn't come with a qhd screen. As nice as they are they are absolute power hogs!

I think 1080 is nice for at least another year :)

The Nexus 6 may be coming from the most unexpected source
http://bgr.com/2014/07/28/motorola-nexus-6-shamu-specs/

“The rumor this time is simple – according to information made available to us, Motorola is working on a device with Google code-named Shamu,” the publication writes. “The device is supposed to be targeted at major U.S. carriers, and unspecified carriers in other parts of the world, which would probably include the markets that currently have access to Nexus devices, though this detail is still unclear.”

The Nexus 6 would pack a 5.9-inch display and a fingerprint sensor, and should launch at some point in November, likely around the Android L release.

While images of the Shamu aren’t available at this time, it appears the handset has been spotted in Google’s issue tracker, which is where the HTC Nexus 9 “Volantis” has also been seen in the past.

If there is a fingerprint reader, I sure hope it's the ones embedded into the touch panel.

And Motorola does seem the most likely due to the lack of leaks, implying google is doing this internally, and why google is fire selling Motorola to Lenovo.

The rumored 5.9" screen size, for the Nexus-Six, really scares me. I have owned four of the five Nexus phones, and really like the 4.7"- 5" size best, maybe 5.2" if they slim down the bezels to a minimum, but I have ZERO interest in a 6" smartphone.

5.5" or 5.9" screens are just way too big for me to even consider. This screen size madness needs to stop, along with the ridiculous pixels densities that don't really improve user experience at all.

Major Nexus news update !!! A Phablet Nexus phone, and Silver maybe not at all

The Information Reports "Shamu" Is Indeed A Motorola-Made Nexus Phablet
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...ports-shamu-is-a-motorola-made-nexus-phablet/

We provided some details a few days ago about a device that may very well be a Motorola Nexus phone, with the telling codename "Shamu" (because it's really big). Today The Information says it has independent confirmation from three sources that the device exists and that it is indeed a Nexus phablet. As for Android Silver? Well, that's looking a bit less certain.

LMAO, right on the money.

So is the rumored 5.9" Phablet type Nexus 6, made by Motorola gonna be true ?

If the rumors of the N6 being a phablet turns out to be true, then I will probably be adding it to my list of possibilities along with the Note 3 and 4 as a replacement for the Galaxy S3. ..as long as it has a removable battery with extended battery options available.

That being said, I really wish Google would stop fucking around with trying to impose $500+ phones on the consumer world and make it contractually mandatory that all manufacturing partners (Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Sony, etc) and carriers must offer the option to the customer of an unlocked and full-functioning AOSP compliant or GPE for each model deployed with updates for at least 24 months after launch. Would be awesome to get a pure Android Note 3 without the hiccups and bugs of a custom ROM...

So, in other words, you won't be adding it to your list.

Google isn't in a position to be dictating anything to Samsung, what with Samsung being the face of Android right now (and already threatening to drop it in favor of Tizen if Google pisses them off too much). If Google tries to make an exception for Samsung, all of the other manufacturers will demand the same exception.

Every year you (DW) bring out the same argument, and every year you wind up with basically a single phone choice... Doesn't that get old?

Yes, it does get old....I absolutely hate not having a variety of phones to choose from that fit some simple criteria that I absolutely must have for work. Which is why I'm still using my S3 with a ZeroLemon 7000mAH battery, even though I'm well past the point of upgrade eligibility.

I realize I'm in the minority group of users that need things like a removeable battery with availability of extreme capacity replacements, but it is what it is, and it limits the scope of what I can get.

S4, S5?
...dunno, doesn't seems like much of an upgrade over my S3, which is still quite capable with nearly everything and anything I do on my phone.

Note 2 or 3?
...I would love the larger screen for reading schematics and service manuals while in the field, but I'm hesitant to move on one since the Note 4 is so close. Even if I don't end up getting a N4, its release will drive down the prices of its predecessors.

Lg G3?
...This one is still on my list, but only because ZeroLemon is releasing a 9000mAH battery for it towards the end of this month.

I don't think there are any other Sprint 4G phones out that have a larger screen than my current phone, has a removable battery, and has a massive capacity extended battery available. If there are, please list them.

All that being said, I'm very happy to see phones/phablets being released with larger and larger screens, but I still have to stick with my requirements of a removable battery and extended capacity option because of my work needs.

I love my Nexus 5, please stop increasing screen size, I think it's perfect.

I agree, but 5.2" / 5.3" in the same size footprint would be best. Look at the LG G2 with 5.2" screen, that thing is no bigger overall then the Nexus 5.

Yup I got the Note 2, definitely don't want a form factor that's bigger than it. Shrink the bezel increase the screen and I'm sold

If HTC is the manufacturer, hopefully they'll keep the duo camera, but increase its pixel size. My M8 is great and all, but it sucks with high resolution shots, makes me want to sell it and get a g3.

I think this time maybe motorola's turn. HTC technically got 2 Nexus phones already (HTC Dream, Nexus One, Samsung 2 (Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus), and LG 2 (Nexus 4/5).

I am excited to see how the upcoming Motorola 5.9" Nexus 6 Phablet will compete with the Note 4 this Fall ?

Will be neat to see if Google has special AOSP apps and customizations for a Phablet, like the S-Note stuff Samsung puts on the Note series, but done in stock Android.

There are already apps that do everything the Sammy Note apps do (for the most part) on Google Play. They've been there for years. And in fact are superior to their Samsung counterparts in just about every way.

Ok good point I haven't had a Note phone, since my Note 2 two years ago.

So a Note 3 running an AOSP ROM or CM11 works just perfect with the S-Pen today, with these non Samsung apps ? That's cool :)

Would you still buy a Note 4, and wait for AOSP ROM's or CM12 for it, or just get the Nexus 6 Phablet instead ?

Personally I would get the Note 4. Purely because given motorolas track record of not going for the best hardware at any price point. I have no problems with my Note 3's stock rom so I would rather get the hardware.

Hardware wise, both the Nexus 6 and Note 4 should be spec'd nearly identical, both using the Snapdragon 805, and QHD Display.

The Note 3 and Nexus 5 released a month apart, both ran the Snapdragon 800, and had 1080p screens.

The Note 2 and Nexus 4 also released around the same time together, shared the same hardware and 720p screen.

CM-SPen-Addon (free), Note Buddy (free), and Handy Note Pro (Payware) do everything the Sammy T-Wiz Note apps do aside from that air-command thingy.

I'm done with Samsung. Period. Fuck Knox, and Samsung's lockdown antics.

The Nexus device will get better updates and have a much better community support from XDA and ROMs. for about 6 months now the Note2 boards have been ghost towns. The 18 months of no updates after 4.1.2 killed it.

If the Nexus device is a phablet like the rumors say, then I'm all over it.

Yea, I heard about these counter part s-alternative apps on Google play and a majority of them are direct rip offs. The biggest is probably snote which works great already

I am very cautiously optomistic. But again given motorola always gimps on some part of.the hardware and that the nexus line also gimps it as well I really doubt beyond the processor and screen size note I said screen size there will be any similarities between the two. The battery on the note 4 will no doubt be bigger, camera better resolution will most likely be better and like it or not there will be a ton of gimmicky features on the note 4.

For me since I dont care to spend days finding a good rom and keeping up to get it updated the note 4 will most likely be the clear winner. Mostly because I value performance and hardware the most and price is never an issue.
