Following its preview at CES 2014, ASUS is excited to launch the ASUS RT-AC87, the world’s first Wave 2 802.11ac consumer router and the fastest 5 GHz with speeds up to 1.73Gbps. Powered by Quantenna’s award-winning QSR1000 4x4 Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) chipset, the ASUS RT-AC87 offers unparalleled speed and range for a superior wireless experience.

It is probably junk just like ac68u. The RT-N56U was the last good router they made.

We have a AC68U at our office and love it, we all get full internet speeds (50/10) from about 40 feet away through multiple walls and other people. Not sure why you think it is junk.

Love my AC68. Can not believe I used so many DGL units before jumping over to the Asus. The only thing that sucks about this news is that I would like to buy the new one from the press release, but probably can't justify it right now.

I have bad luck then... I am on my 2nd unit and I cannot even get a stable connection with the ac68u. I still use my 56u since all the pc's in the house stay connected to it and can maintain a constant speed.

I've got the AC66U and it's been rock solid for me so far. Been using it for a little over a year I believe.. If/when I need to upgrade I will be more than likely getting another Asus..

So wait, this one has MU-MIMO, but their "next gen" router, the RT-AC3200 doesn't? I'm confused...

I desperately want to get rid of my Netgear R7000. That thing is a piece of garbage, and pretty much reinforces that router reviews need to have two weeks of operating time testing, not 24-48 hours of testing.

Well that link sucked. No mention of the AC-AC87 anywhere.

I have a RT-AC56U....It worked great for about a month. Asus refused to give me support in English. They gave a number to call and closed the case. The number they gave was not valid. One day I will learn to stop giving Asus any more chances.

I have not changed from my RTN-66U. Still rocking solid and from what I have read the rollowing ones up to AC66U were solid too for upgrades. I bet this one be pretty good too if ASUS kept up the development. Just hope it doesn't die and need to RMA them...

Uh oh. I have an R7000 on the way. I have heard a lot of good things about this router.

Bought one from BestBuy in an emergency for one of the small businesses whose computer systems I maintain. Loaded it up with Kong's DD-WRT firmware and we're rockin' and rollin'. :mrcool: :D

Hmm. It seems the ASUS page linked does not point to the router and I can't find it now. Bad search??

Yes

Why DD-WRT? Did you look into the Merlin firmware? It's actually very nice with a lot of features.

Meant to quote there and can't edit obviously :eek:/

This will be SUPER fast with all those AC2400 receivers on the market... oh wait, there are basically none.

Fail.

In the course of 4 months of 2013, I bought & returned 16 different routers from almost every brand out there, EXCEPT the last one, the R7000.....which has been rockin super fast & sweet for me since the day I set it up. And I have 14 wireless & 6 wired devices of all kinds connected almost constantly....... upstairs, downstairs, garage, outside etc in a 2500 sq ft split level home.... neveranottaproblemo :D

I have two R7000 routers and they fixed most every problem I have ever had with wireless routers.
