Why do people hate Glassholes? It's probably because we are all just haters that don't understand technology.

“Everyone’s a hater in the beginning,” says 29-year-old Glass-wearer Drew Austin, CEO of Augmate, a company that develops software for wearable devices, including Google Glass. “It’s just the norm. People hate what they don’t understand,” says the Soho resident.

People hate it because it is a huge invasion of privacy and the public already realizes how totally useless wearable tech is. Fashion drives that shit. If it isn't accepted there, it sure as hell won't be accepted anywhere else.

Yes, I am confoozed by this teknologeez. Will my soul get stuck inside? *beats chest and chucks spear*

It's a reaction to a new "status symbol". Someone comes up to your face with Google Glass on is saying "I have $1,500 to blow on something with very very limited utility.. and you don't." People don't like being told or reminded of what they don't have or can't get. And they take it out on the person that has said object.

When Amazon puts out their version of Google Glass and everyone can have one, no more negative reactions.

There's nothing to "understand." They're strapping a smart phone to their face. Whee, amazing. Follow people around pointing your phone at them and see how they react.

I don't hate google glass the product..I hate the pretentious, self absorbed, always a victim, douchebag, assholes that typically wear them.

Oh and this.

"You don't UNDERSTAND ME!", says every hormonal grumpy self-absorbed teenager to their parents...ever.

Hahahahaha - You guys are killing me.:D

Are there even enough of these "Glassholes" out there to justify a "revolt"?

There doesn't have to be. The few who have made it known that they have it and are testing it have shown that they are total douchebags who don't care about another person's privacy.

i saw my first glasshole the other day... really was a typical hipster dirtbag and it looked so ridiculous...

Why wear Google Glass when you can just put on a shirt that says "I LOVE ATTENTION!".

The best part is that most spies and intelligence personals tend to be very low-keyed as they make all of your info belong to them without a fuss, while Glassholes utterly fail in that role.

Not that people really do take espionage all that kindly when it's targeting them, of course.

IMO, Google Glass users look no different than a guy walking around with a GoPro strapped to a helmet.

And they likely wouldn't be greeted any differently, as there are some venues where that's awesome (mountain biking, skiing, sky diving, etc), and other places its inappropriate (restrooms, bars, strip clubs, etc).

That is the thing...people with a GoPro strapped to their person are not going out to get groceries, or riding the bus, or sitting down to eat at a nice restaurant. And even when so, I think they will know and admit to looking like a dork....and not complaining about being "discriminated" against or "you just don't understand tech".

They believe because a big name company is trying to mainstream the practice by slapping their name on the device, they found a legal and socially acceptable way to be total douches.

"It r google product, so it ok."

Amen, and that's why no one has ever heard of a GoProhole. :D

I hate Glass after using it. I think it's garbage in its current form with the terrible battery life it has.

Google Glass has it's applications. But, like someone said above - it's like a GoPro. There are times when it makes sense, and others when it's ridiculous. Wearing them everywhere is a bit much. Unless they are giving you a HUD with tons of information, there's no reason to wear them on the bus, in a restaurant (I'd hate it if a date wore them), or anywhere that they aren't needed.

Of course, I also find it ridiculous when I see people "socialize" while sitting and staring at their phones for hours. I think people that do that on dates or other places (same as GG) are assholes. That's just me, though.

Take off the glasses when you don't need them. They aren't prescription (yet), so put them away.

This.

The tech behind the GoogleGlass is pretty spiffy. 1 out of 10 I have encountered wearing them were decent folks. The others? D-bags... "look at me look at me look at me"... <sigh>

Google can fix this by removing the camera "feature"

i'd still like a HUD when i'm out though

Since Google never really does anything (service-wise) for free and they harvest information. What is the monetized purpose of the camera?

ITT: nobody who's actually used the device, old people.

What will happen when you can have a prosthetic eye with wide spectrum vision and a persistent HUD? Call them "eye holes?"

I've used one briefly. It was kinda cool. Using NAV on it while driving was neat. But it's not worth the money.

And I will concur that some (many) of the daily Glass users are pretty self absorbed. They're one layoff from serving at Starbucks and riding single speed bikes without a helmet through stop signs and red lights.

I for one don't judge people by what they wear... WTF is wrong with you guys?

Self absorbed because you are wearing Google Glasses?

People that don't say thank you or excuse me , basically people that are not polite are assholes.
Just because you wear Google Glasses doesn't make you anything other than a person with Google Glasses... fucking people now a days...

I can see many uses for these glasses because of the camera. If you could have a camera on all the time you could possible catch some one in the act of doing something illegal and reporting them.
My friend has a Gopro and he records his bike rides for safety and insurance purpose. The same reason I'm setting up my car with 4 cameras pointing out in all directions. My Insurance claim representative will be able to make a liability decision in seconds after seeing a video.

How to be a 29 year old CEO:

1. Know a guy who wrote an app.
2. Upload the app to a digital store.
3. Profit?

Amen, and that's why no one has ever heard of a GoProhole. :D

True, but I think there are definitely a few. I see a decent number of people, probably tourists, walking around the sidewalk filming themselves with a GoPro stuck to the end of a golf club or something. Dude, you're not that interesting.

When Amazon puts out their version of Google Glass and everyone can have one, no more negative reactions.

I think that's a pretty good prediction.

Nobody is saying there isn't a legitimate use for a GoPro or other device.

The problem is the people using Google Glass. They aren't using them in insurance claims, or as evidence in crimes. AFAIK or anyone knows...they're by all accounts stereotypical Twitter generation who think that people care about watching their recording buying a loaf of bread at the store, or getting wasted at a bar, or the people riding the subway.

Like I said. Self. Absorbed. Don't give a shit about who may or may not want to be seen on their damn video diary. Google calling them "Explorers", only seems to make them more twit-ish.

All the people with a GoPro (being a cyclist I've met a few) that I've met are conscious of what they're doing...and don't go about their daily business holding a GoPro in every bystanders personal space aimed at them with a straight face.

Meanwhile all the majors including Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Samsung, Sony are quietly developing their own versions in anticipation of it taking off and not wanting to be last into this market.

I swear 99% of the kneejerk stupidity in every thread about Glass is just "wah wah wah Google" whitenoise.

I believe they are all working on smart watches and not Glass-a-likes. If anyone at Google thinks Glass is going to ever "take off" they certainly aren't doing much about it. Google could be mass producing Glass if they wanted and selling it at a low cost. They aren't because the product just isn't very good currently.

I think there are enough cellholes out there to indicate that this glasshole issue is selectively specially singled out by the media for JUST BECAUSE, LET'S JUST CREATE A RUCKUS AND SOME ENTERTAINMENT. :D

I think the idea behind the camera is to catch those fast moments that don't give you time to pull our your phone or when you want to be looking at what you're taking a photo of instead of just looking at a screen of a device pointed at what you want a photo of. EG your kid does something new, and you want to be looking right at him, yet still catch a photo of it to hold on to so if you have Google Glasses you just say out loud 'Take a picture', but if you don't have them then you either don't capture the moment or you're looking at a phone screen instead of the actual thing you're trying to capture a photo of.

The camera is also needed to do things like this: http://www.the4cast.com/2013/09/pio...head-display-hud-future-satellite-navigation/ . Eg floating directions that don't just tell you which way to go if you're lost somewhere, but actually show you which way to go.

So much glass hate lol.

There are plenty of assholes that are rude with their phones too. It's not really fair to single out these glass users when society in general clearly needs to adopt better cell phone / tech etiquette. I bet you the same percentage of people will throw a bitch fit when you tell them to put their cell phones away or they are going to get kicked out.

I am excited for AR to take off. I cant wait until we see something like the AR in Dennou Coil (sp?)

How about I walk around with my phone held out at arm's length and stick it in the face of anyone I'm talking to? Would that be all right?

People hate what's obnoxious and invasive, fuckhead. The ignorance is on your part, not ours.
