Use GeForce Exepreince to update driver?

Is it wise to use GeForce Experience to update driver?

Or should I do clean install?
 
You fine using it, i have used it several times myself, it still asks you what you want to install i recall and how
 
I use it all the time with no issues - it used to have an issue with steam running at the same time but i haven't seen that error in a couple updates.
 
Have you guys found a way to change its download folder? It's always created an NVIDIA folder on the system drive which causes unnecessary writes on an SSD... Since discovering that it not only downloads but extracts these monstrous driver packages to an SSD probably twice a month, I've updated manually.
 
@PliotronX Just how long do you think you're going to keep that SSD? 50+ years?
 
He's not wrong really. Regular users who aren't using an SSD as a dedicated scratch drive are probably more likely to die in a fiery car crash on the way to a Micro Center than they are to use up all of an SSD's life before having replaced it with something larger/faster/cheaper sometime this decade. That's just out-the-ass statistics though :D
 
Good lord its not just reliability at stake but even with TRIM, performance degrades after about 100GB of writes and just slowly goes downhill from there. Losing performance for driver updates is a raw deal. Didnt realize the ignorance runs thick with Nvidia users.
 
The only issue with using experience is that is saves copies of your downloaded files to the GeForce experience sub folders which is an issue if you use an SSD with limited space. I used to use experience as it is so easy to let the NVidia software install everything. I like old school install ways though, and even though I don't run driver cleaner or install in safe mode like we used to do 5 plus years ago, I still like the freedom to install into the folder I choose and install what I want and then delete the installer file.

You are majorly overreacting with performance degradation and reliability and I'm a pretty paranoid individual about these things. On the other hand, Nvidia is a goddamn sloppy company when it comes to their software/drivers. They dirty the crap out of machines with their installs and uninstalls not even deleting the unnecessary folder and file structure that gets extracted from the first download used to actually install the crap on your machine.

It's something so easy they could fix and have overlooked for god knows how long.
