DC Vault 2

Primaboinca is the motherload! :D I've pointed the majority of my resources in that direction.

You are having way too much fun with primaboinca. Then again, so am I. :D

I wish I had more resources to throw at it!

I just noticed that EVERY other team is now showing up on our Free-DC Team Opportunities list... And at this rate, we can be the #3 team in this project in about 7-8 months at the rate we're going! :-D

I noticed we're down to #16 in Bio and Med Science. It appears this will be more difficult to gain ground, but I wonder if POEM and MalariaControl would be the best places to concentrate our efforts. They have decent points per position, but the time for overtake is not short.

What do you guys think?

Bio/Medical projects usually score low and favor those with lots of CPU cores. They are also DC'er favorites, so they will certainly be tougher to go up.

DC-Vault is still going to add Mind Modeling which will be added to the Bio/Medical category, so I am sure we will have a push there soon. I fear that Tom (the admin) underestimates the amount of work needed to keep Vaulters happy.

I attached the majority of my rigs to Maliria yesterday because the less popular projets I was trying to run could not keep up with the demand, EDGeS@Home only allows 16 WU's per rig, MindModeling@Home ran out of work, Rioja Science has limited amount of WU's, SZTAKI Desktop Grid also has limited amount of work and only allows 1200 WU's per rig per day when they do have plenty of work. I figured like you did bilong that since we are lacking in the Bio / Medical I would run them to fill in the gaps. With Eagle07 chewing up GPU grid and if some of us run some we should be able to get up a few notches in a relativity short amount of time. :)

Mind Modeling needs to be rejected from the Vault. It's not ready for prime time.

Care to elaborate? I know they run out of work periodically, but they also bring more work pretty quick compared to the other projects that have had issues with work unit shortage. SIMAP comes to mind but they will be pulled probably late this year early next year.

Out of work. I also cannot log into my account on the website and can't join a team.

Can you join through BAM!. How long has it been since you last logged into your account? Do you need me to contact Tom to try and get it fixed? I've not heard anyone else having account issues yet.

As far as work units go, a lot of projects run out of work regularly but the big difference is how long you have to wait before there is more. Even SETI runs out of work from time to time and they have years worth of back data to still work on. Mind Modeling has been pretty good about getting more work in the hoppers without waiting too long. But these concerns were concerns we were asking for back when it was up for discussion. At this point it will probably be a bit as we give them a chance and see if they fail to meet real expectations or not.

We got an update tonight from Rusty. Apparently the technical issue with getting OGR added involves coding with the site and the original coder not being available at the moment to help out. So, it will be a bit for it. I haven't heard a date yet for MM. But that is the status and reasoning for the delay on OGR-28.

Edit: And oh... we took 4th place in the Mathematics category.

If the team is on board with this, we could even make a team challenge at BOINCStats out of it. Perhaps if the team plans earlier than the day or so before the new month, we could have a different monthly challenge as well...

Thoughts?

Did POEM ever fix their GPU issues? I'm over my 50M GPU Grid goal, and 100M could wait a few months, so I'd love to put my 680 back on POEM if it was worth it...

And are Maxwells compatible with it?

I don't have many single GPU systems any more so don't get a lot of their GPU work. But, from what I have read, it is still the same...... And I have not tested Maxwells on the project since they are in a multi-GPU box.

Grandpa, I am also going to start another list in the All inclusive DC list for this info. Let me know what projects you notice these limitations on so that others can plan accordingly. :D

I was thinking possibly hitting SIMAP. I still have a goal to hit and only a limited time to get there.

Convector is another project that I am going to start testing soon. It would be nice if a few heavy hitters would take a week or so to really put it through the motions. Since I don't have anything over 32 cores right now, I don't experience some of the issues that Grandpa has run into in the past. I mention that here because I have taken the initiative of looking for other new potential projects to add. I've posted in the Formula-BOINC forums to see why it wasn't added there. I'm not holding my breath on a quick answer though. So, if anyone jumps on the testing wagon, let me know your experiences.

Poem is still having the same issues with GPU that have been going on for the past month or so. You can't run it on more than one GPU per system or it will have lots of errors or do other odd things. You have to edit your config files to exclude it from all but one GPU. Work is lacking. I am lucky to get more than three or four tasks in a days time and to get that many I need to ping the sever every 5 minutes or so using a third party tool.

If things go according to plan you have until the end of the year to meet any goals you want to set for SIMAP. Just be aware it tends to run out of work every so often then not have any more for a couple of weeks to a month.

I was a big fan of Mind Modeling but I have cooled towards it lately. Lack of work or only work for one type of OS and not others seems to be the norm for them the last several months. I would not recommend them for the Vault right now except for the fact that there are only five Boinc based projects there now. And Simap will be leaving at the end of the year. Bio/Medical is getting thin and needs projects to flesh it out that are better than the two projects we removed because they had no work for several months. Hopefully NRG will get its new servers up and running and then be able to be added to the Vault as well.

CAS has work right now but I ended up with nothing but errors on both of my systems and gave up on it. The tasks would run for maybe two minutes then error out. Every one of the tasks did this so I aborted what I had and moved to other projects.

Until Simap releases some more work I am making time with Pogs on my i5 for a team event. My GTX 680 is on GPU Grid, and my GTX 780 Ti is going back and forth with Poem and Collatz. My i7 laptop is on Rosetta for now. Oh and I have a old android phone doing Enigma. So yeah, I too would like a Bio/Medical project that has a reliable work load, offers GPU and CPU work, and rewards decent points for the effort.

Just to clarify Khali's statement on POEM, you can run work with multiple GPU's if you have mixed brands in the system. For example an AMD card and an nVidia card. But two nVidia cards will cause issues. At least that is how I understood the problem. Moo! also has an issue right now with multiple cards in one machine and seems ok if the cards are different brands. Otherwise, what he has stated is indeed correct for the time being.

SIMAP at least tells you estimated time left of work availability on the front page and also tells you estimated time for new work to return. But, yes, I am hoping NRG meets their promises. Until we get more BIO/Medical projects that are reliable though, we may just have to leave it skimp. I think the Vault's reputation needs to be upheld before just filling spots. I know that isn't what you are implying. I just want to confirm that we are indeed finding it hard to get good reliable projects in there.

And Gpugrid has issues over 9 gpus ... but Einstein works great... just doesn't give you points.

Still isn't worse than SETI....

Oh..and we seem to be getting more notice from DPC. I think teams are starting to notice us... lol

As more of the Folding [H]orde migrate to BOINC and our Formula Boinc/DC-Vault efforts lots of folks are going to notice us.

You can run multiple AMD cards no problem, it's just Nvidia cards that have the issue, it's been like that for years, same with the trickle of work poem gives out, to keep your work topped up (maximum of 100 work units) you need to spam the work server manually or automatically with Boinc project updater, there's no server limit on how often.

EDIT: I think it might be 50 tasks per card limit now, it used to be a 100.

I'm taking a break from GIMPS and I've set 3 GPUs on GPUGrid for the first time. We'll see how they perform since they were awesome for GIMPS even though they were older cards (GTX 580). I'm hoping GIMPS gets their backend server up-to-snuff since it's a M$-based server with MSSQL. I'm tired of babysitting my GIMPS nodes every couple of days just trying to get the WUs submitted properly.

Grandpa, any reason why you are no longer part of the team at Numberfields?

Edit: Also, YoYo replied to your thread at Yafu... http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/forum_thread.php?id=160&postid=669
I am betting if you used a virtual machine...it would suffice as to not having to mess with 2 separate clients in general...

Nope, just streching the lead in FB while they have some of the lesser project work available, so I can concentrate on some of the DC project stuff. :)

So apparently the 9600GSO in my main i7 rig died while I was away in Santa Cruz the past few days, but the CPU kept crunch Primaboinca. Nice to have such a reliable CPU client, even when a GPU dies!

Just a heads up on NumberFields they fixed the progress indicator problem today they also increased the size of the WU's or changed something in the way they run they now take 2x to 3x what they used to take to complete, up to 9 hrs. on my 4650 rigs @ 3133Mhz so I am guessing 12 or so on the 6276's @ 3ghz. The PPD looks like it might be going up a little but it is still to early to tell.

Don't look now but.... ahem... you left the team again.... http://numberfields.asu.edu/NumberFields/team_members.php?teamid=19&offset=0&sort_by=expavg_credit

If they have a problem, then you might want to post in their forums because others might not be aware. However, I haven't seen it happen to any of our other team mates yet. Keep us updated. :)

I have kindly reminded Rusty that his deadline of the 16th for removing Majestic-12 has passed. I'm wondering how it will affect our positioning.
