Firefox & Safari Continue to Suck Even More

I continually go back to chrome because it is more appealing, is laid out, IMO, 100 times better than FF and besides that I'm always fixing FF related issues on my in-laws computer. Font sizing and changing background color on FF horribly messes up a large percentage of webpages.
 
I like Chromium for development, I just like the tools better. Strictly FF home user, though. windows and linux. it's simply the best overall package. sad to see so many people using chrome

Why do we need automatic transmission, keyless entry, anything else. We don't need it, we want it. Computers are smart enough to figure out if someone is a website or not so there is really no need to separate the 2. The question actually is why were they ever separate?

I remember the days when you had to type every single character in a URL out and not many people had their own domains so URLs were often highly nested directories. A lot of it was unneeded and we moved away from that. If you are dead set on searching from a separate field then that should be an add on.
 
Interesting stats.

For general browsing at home I use Opera. Although I miss their old iteration where I could merge tabs into groups. Sign I have too many frequent sites open though.
For simplicity and quick searches I'll use Chrome for other things and IE when I have to. For work almost everything requires IE and for the few things that don't I use Chrome.

On Android I have preferred to use Chrome. When I had Windows Phones I used Opera, Dolphin and IE when necessary.

I have nothing against Firefox, just never had it tickle my fancy.
 
I love chrome for many things, but the new google chat for desktop removed the option to logout. WTF google?
 
Hold up.. does Chrome offer the equivalent of add-ons to Adblock Plus, Noscript and better privacy?

Just these 3 add-ons prevent any and all bullshit you would normally see without, ads ads ads and malware.
 
I prefer Firefox, but I've had more stability issues than with Chrome, so I tend to use Chrome. Maybe Firefox has improved over recent times, but having each tab as it's own process seemed to be a good idea from Chrome so the whole damned browser doesn't crash because of some silly flash ad fucking up.
 
Saying that only use one particular browser is worth using is as bad as saying that only one OS is worth using.

Limiting yourself does not sound [H] to me.
 
Been strictly Firefox for a decade now. I just don't like Chrome's UI or relative lack of options, even though it's a little bit faster to load most content.

Like someone already said, I do wish the folks at FF would stop dicking around with the UI and focus more on performance improvements.
 
I've been a FF user since the first shifts from IE way back in the early 2000's. It was great mostly because of tabs and the customizable UI (and a few other addins that come since).

My only gripe with it is... in the last few years. On my home PC, FF does nothing but bloody crash all the DAMN TIME! Seriously pisses me off. I can't stop it from happening. No matter what i try... it still just randomly crashes. I tried uninstalling addins thinking that one was causing it. No avail. I highly suspect is either Java or Flash (or both). But what can i do when nothing works without either of those to *EXPLETIVES* installed? Even after formatting my system it still ends up crashing. Now that alone isnt overly bad.. but the fact that it often doesnt restore to my previously opened tabs at the time of the crash (both inbuilt session restore and TabMixPlus's version). REALY>>> REALLY makes me rage. I have chrome installed along side FF as sometimes FF just doesnt load a page right or something is wonky so i use Chrome (i used to always use IE for these tasks.. but still swap between Chome and IE to troubleshoot certain little issues that sometimes arise in FF). If anyone has any clues.. i'd be gracious.

The second thing that has annoyed me is that in FF29... they took away a lot of the customizable-ness. Where is my "flexible space" so that i can right justify a toolbar button???!?!? ggrrr

I am so sick to death of software "enhancements" that remove features/functionality. What part of "enhancement" is that? Someone enlighten me?

I've been saying for a long time it was going to make their userbase drop faster. I don't actually know if I was right, but Firefox being at a "record low" is kind of evidence to that fact.

They need to look at the things that make Chrome better, and take them; instead of taking the Chrome UI and doing it better. No one cares about that, and then you alienate the Firefox users themselves.

Smooth scrolling works correctly on Chrome, easily noticeable on touch screen laptops.
High DPI flash controls scale on Chrome.
The little things like this are what Firefox need to catch up to.

Stability and security? Honestly, there's nothing unstable about Firefox, and security issues are just as big on Chrome as Firefox. Security arguments about the modern browsers are just pointless.
Chrome is the new AOL anyway - AOL was number 1, so it's no surprise Chrome is.

Firefox is the power users browser. It's far more customizable. But, like I said, things like the smooth scrolling and dpi scaling on plugins hurt that specialty.

You have to get the "Classic Theme Restorer" add on. It brings all that stuff back and a bit more.

Thanks for the heads-up on Classic Theme Restorer. I'll check it. I'm not against the new UI changes from FF29+ (as they added at least one thing i wish i could have done for a long time in FF, the ability to use the very top window "bar" as a customizable zone instead of it just being this massive waste of space you coudln't do anything with). If they just add more options in and not take them out.. it will be ok. And they can focus on fixing Flash/Java crashes!!! (it has to be that.. i've torn my hair out and that is the only conclusion i can come to at this point).
 
I have been using FF since the first release and I have never looked back. I installed chrome once to at least check it out, had it a few days then I uninstalled it. Even IE is stricken from my computers (except one) as work requires IE to do it from home....
 
The one deal breaker for me with Chrome was that I couldn't block ads in Flash video after an hour of fiddling with different add-ons and settings. Firefox simply requires Adblock to be installed for this to work, no extra fiddling required. But this is a good thing because like many people I am trying to limit how much Google is in my life. The recent UI changes in Firefox did piss me off a lot at first, but I find myself not really paying attention to it anymore. I will check out that Classic Theme Restorer, though.
 
havent used FF in years now. Cant stand the bloat/bugginess. Chrome then IE
 
I've always liked Firefox and I've never understood why Chrome is so popular. The performance claims are mostly just marketing and Firefox can do more.
 
FF user here as well. Just find it has better addon support and I like the fact it has its own internet connection settings instead of relying on Windows for it. Makes a great browser for kids if you want to filter out sites.
 
Safari stared to loose market share when incognito mode came to other browsers. Porn, once again the driver of technology.

Havent been a firefox guy since the 4.0 update miss the good ol days of 3.5:(

Same here. The recent ff update with the new ui is horrible. Like you, the classic theme restorer was a god send. Probably why I stick to ff for the plugins and customisation.
On android phones its a different story. I'd prefer to stick with ff but it's too buggy on my S5. If mozilla sorts out their issues on the android platform, I'll switch back to ff.

I would think that any rational measure of when a page is loaded would be when you can see it clearly. If you can see the page faster on Chrome, then it isn't an illusion. It is faster. If Firefox is slower because they decided to fade pages in, then it is because they decided to sacrifice a bit of speed for the transition effect they thought would be more desirable.

Works fine here with Chrome and Adblock Plus. Did you uncheck 'allow non-intrusive ads'? But if you can't figure it out just stick with Firefox.

Firefox is my second choice since the layout is messy compared to Chrome.

I thought Dolphin was good too but on Android I think I settled on the older build of Opera (not Platinum or w/e and not Lite).

Dolphin had excellent gesture commands and good text wrapping but for whatever reason I liked that specific version of Opera because of its home screen, text wrapping and font control.

This was almost a year ago though.
 
Chrome here. It took a while to move from Firefox to Chrome. Mostly due to getting used to it and finding suitable add-on's. Going back would be a rough transition as well. So, I stay with what works. Chrome still works great. Firefox had some huge memory leaks back when I switched to Chrome, so it was an easier transition eventually. Chrome works fine and I have no issues. Moving back to Firefox would be one of those "just because" things, not because of necessity.
 
Chrome sucks, everybody knows it.....this is straight up almost an ad post
 
Crap. I'll continue to use FF until the end, even if I'm the last user using it!

I don't have a problem reading [H] on my phone, but I typically do so as a guest, whereas on a laptop or desktop, I do so as a registered user. Like now, of course. :)
 
Firefox is a piece of shit, only slightly less so than Safari. Chrome was a piece of shit until about a year or two ago, when you could finally open most websites and input data correctly.

I've never seen a mainstream web browser crash more than Firefox... or randomly change shit every update.
 
I saw this thread on FF, and I'll most likely be on the forums again at home on Chrome. I use both.

But, I'm sure if privacy was a concern, FF is your browser. I'm willing to bet anything in chrome is used for advertising somewhere....

Yes it is. And the two others that I have posted in this thread are as well.

We found it very odd that HoverHound was so high compared to overall viewership here on the forums and HardOCP pages.
