Seasonic Platinum-1200 Power Supply Review - Seasonic is one of our longtime favorite brands when it comes to enthusiast computer power supplies. Its new 1,200 watt powerhouse still outshines many PSUs that it competes with. Interestingly enough Seasonic's biggest true competition seems to be... well... Seasonic.

How painless is Seasonic's warranty service? I have dealt with Corsair and their RMA department is second to none as far as I'm concerned. Are there any hoops and hurdles to cross when dealing with Seasonic? Always contemplated their power supply units, but never really read about their RMA service. Which is good as that means that few units actually go bad and need to be returned. ;)

They're frankly not very good with RMAs. They usually make you work for the RMA, either saying customer induced or pointing out some obscure line in the warranty terms about burn damage. I've never not gotten the RMA eventually, but I usually had to work for it. Corsair and EVGA, on the other hand, are usually painless.

I can understand that being the case, but honestly over the many Seasonic PSUs I've purchased for myself or for others I have not had to RMA any of them.

Thanks for the review guys!

Heh. The competition comment is so true. It was Seasonic or Seasonic for me other day. 1200 Platinum or 1250 Gold. Given my plain copper waterblocks I went Gold. Saved me 70 dollars in the short run but I guess I'll be paying through the nose for power compared to the Platinum rating on the 1200W unit!

For a while, every now and then when a power supply broke I'd just go to the garage and wipe cobwebs off an old trusty 300W seasonic sitting there and use for backup while I waited for a replacement.

I've grown to depend on their PSUs for pretty much every build these days. Respect.

Love my X-750 Gold. There was a deal recently for the 660 Platinum for like $80.00 after rebate.

OklahomaWolf's review over at JG..

Performance - 10

Functionality - 10

Value - 9

Build Quality - 10

Total Score - 9.8

There have been a scant few 9.9 scores at JG but no 10.0 that I could find (whoops.. OklahomaWolf just slapped my behind and said JG has given out a perfect score.. read further down this thread), so it doesn't get much better than this. And the slight ding only has to do with the price, nothing about the actual PSU. All my Seasonics are still going strong!!

I was looking at both the X-1250 and Platinum last week. After comparing specs the efficiency improvement wasn't enough to convince me to pay the additional $60 for the Platinum. I'm happy with the X-1250 and, taking into account Seasonic's excellent quality, the X-1250 will last me for several years.

Thanks for the review, [H]. Greatly appreciate the time and effort you all put into the reviews. Definitely shows.

Geez.. just happened 2 months ago.. Corsair AX1500i 1500W Just proves I am not perfect but I rather blame a Google search failure than user error for this oversight!! Plus it was late and I was tired! And a few other excuses I am too lazy to bring out right now.

Funny enough, I have NEVER had a hardware failure, no dead hdds, ssds, video cards, motherboards, etc etc, but my x-1250 took a dump recently. It started to get shutdowns whenever I played in surround mode or with high load % when playing in 3D. I eventually realized that it had a problem when surpassing ~500W as the problem went away whenever I ran with only 1 780. I'm currently running off a Corsair TX850 but have been too lazy to send the 1250 for RMA. Gonna have to do it sometime soon....

On the other hand, I've purchased several of their smaller units that are still working perfectly. These include the S12II-520, G-550, X-650 and X-750.

...And now I will go test this x-1250 to make sure it works at greater than 500W...

I've been wondering about this for a minute, still undecided btw this and a Corsair AX1200i.
I'm trying to protect a 3960x and a Titan Black, any recommendations?

For a single Titan Black, this is way overkill. A good 850w PSU will do the trick. 1200w may be good for a 3960X and tri-SLI Titan Black.
