Not a FPS fan at all, but this and Destiny look good and will give both a shot.
 
put over 4,000 hours into l4d1 and 2 combined and played both of them at the highest level, i better get in.

It's going to be interesting to see if them spinning off what is effectively the Left4Dead tank fight into its own game is going to have anywhere near the longevity of L4D.

L4D's genius was the team vs team aspect I think, that's what gave it so much depth and so many moving parts and so much excitement in competitive rounds. Whereas Evolve is team vs. solo player.

i'm hoping for a 4v4 gamemode that they just haven't shown yet. if it's 1v4 only then competitive play simply isn't possible, which would be a big disappointment as the game looks incredible.

Why would they have 4v4? Doesn't make sense for this type of game. Doesn't need to have "competitive" play...which I assume you mean professionally competitive, because any PvP game is inherently competitive.

I'm really looking forward to this one.

I only played l4d on 360 but I put 500 hours into l4d2 on PC, hoping for a real competitive scene to form. Problem is it never did. The bar for cooperation is fairly high for newbies and they had the survivors way too over powered for way too long. Realism versus came after most had already given up on the game... I still desperately miss the feeling of potential I felt there though. I hope to christ this game delivers.

why wouldn't they have 4v4? there's nothing limiting them from having another gamemode, especially not a reason as dumb as "doesn't make sense for this type of game", whatever that means. i didn't say it needs to have competitive play, i said it would be disappointing as l4d was one of the most fun competitive games i've ever played, which was made by turtle rock.

Yeah, I hope they keep trying. Asymetrical 4v4 is incredible, they just need to dial in the balance

This is what I'm most worried about. It just doesn't look fun playing 1v4. I always hated the tank because there was almost no tactic with him by himself. You needed your teammates to help pin or distract individuals so you could do massive work

Watching the E3 stream really left me unimpressed.

4v4 what? 4 giant monsters against 4 tiny soldiers? Seems fair...

4v4 all soldiers? Stupid...what's the point?

I don't know why this needs to be "like L4D"...the game is nothing like L4D.

You obviously didn't play L4d/l4d2 in any competitive aspect. It was one of the most competitive games on the market in it's prime.

turtle rock made l4d. turtle rock is making evolve. it would be disappointing if their new multiplayer game was not competitively viable when their last was one of the best i've ever played. is that simplified enough for you to understand? 4v4 mode in evolve could be whatever, there are a lot of ways they could take it, i'm just saying i hope it has it. i will enjoy the game either way, it's just that i would enjoy the game a lot more if i could play with the old competitive l4d community, and my team, again. i don't know how you can say evolve is nothing like l4d, it's pretty clear that they are very similar. it's like they took l4d and fleshed it out more. the biggest difference is that one of the teams only has one player now.
 
What I'm saying is that just because it's the same company doesn't mean anything...it doesn't mean they should make it the same as L4D, it doesn't mean it needs to be the same as L4D. I can see a relation to L4D tank fight but otherwise I don't think it's going to be that similar. Evolve seems to focus on each teammate having a different role, versus L4D which is just "everyone shoot stuff". Also, it's based around having a huge monster (stronger than a tank), not just "special" zombies.

In any case, if they figure out a 4v4, fine, but you are making it seem like the game will fail if it's not just like L4D, and I disagree. The variety will be in the classes, monsters, and levels.
 
Gonna pass until they show something interesting. That Tank vs 4 different class players seems incredibly boring to me. And don't get me started on that leveling crap.

Fucking FPMOBA.
 
I don't think some of you realize that there are both multiple hunters of each role (IE there's different medics/trappers, etc) and also multiple monsters to choose from.

Each of which plays differently.

Plus the m onster is a lot more varied/powerful then your "tank" from L4D.
 
Played this at the gadget show a few months ago, i played as a medic and my friend was the monster.

My friend said it was easy to avoid the soldiers due to us having to run around together.

He got to max level, he had to destroy the generator he killed us pretty easy, we both left disappointed tbh. i was really excited before playing but just another shooter.

Might have improved since so we will see.
 
the registration is open until midnight .... invites probably go out tomorrow.
 
Yeah I haven't heard anyone getting an invite yet which leads me to believe that none have gone out.

I think they said they were expecting to have the list done by today.
 
well since no has gotten an invite maybe they havent gone out yet.
really hoping i get one though!
this is my most anticipated game.
