First I'd like to thank the people here who suggested that I not buy a gaming laptop with such a low budget (Was $2000, now it's ~$1500-1700)

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
~$1500-1700 No.

3) Which country do you live in? If the U.S, please tell us the state and city if possible.
US,MN.

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
I listed my parts and am asking for suggestions.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
No.

6) Will you be overclocking?
Most likely not.

7) What is the max resolution of your monitor? What size is it?
1366x768, 19"

8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
Relatively soon.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video (as a backup or main GPU)? UEFI? etc.
I don't know.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
No.

I'm looking for a review on this desktop PC, any improvements on any parts, or if anything is overkill please let me know. Right now it costs $1620, and that's about my price range. ~$1500-1700. Sorry for not removing anything that is unneeded, but I don't know if it could be important or not..

It would help if you answered the stickied "ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FIRST!" so that we can help you better. Also I'm guessing that building this PC yourself is completely out of the question?

Though off the bat:
- That case isn't good
- That PSU is shit
- That meter is worthless since the case already has a built-in fan controller.
- really no point in getting that Intel NIC since A) the stock NIC is decent as is and B) there are motherboards out there that has an Intel NIC built-in.
- If you did select two hard drives for RAID 0, that was a bad idea considering that SSDs are far more responsive than RAID 0 hard drives.

I'd look at swapping in a name brand power supply, 250 Gig SSD, 2 Terra-byte Hard Drive and AMD R9 280 or Nvidia GTX 760.

The video card is replaceable so I wouldn't think about it for now.

I'd prefer a brand name power supply and a hard drive with 64MB cache (not 32MB).
low-cost PSUs
Antec Basiq VP-450 power supply
Corsair CX430 power supply
Seasonic S12 520w
OCZ ZS Series 550W
Rosewill Hive 650W

(If you really wanted Intel LAN, the Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H and GA-Z97-D3H have that, Realtek ALC1150 audio and M.2 PCIe for future fast SSDs.)

Changes:
Case: ARC 647 Gaming Case Black
Hard drive: 2 TB HARD DRIVE -- 64M Cache, 7200rpm, 6.0Gb/s
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 - 2GB - EVGA Superclocked
PSU: 850 Watt - Corsair RM850 - 80 PLUS Gold, Full Modular

Intel NIC swapped out for default
Meter removed

Swapped keyboard: Razer Deathstalker

New total: $1659

Any thoughts on these?

Please answer the sticky and my last question.

The ARC is an even worse case than the Phantom 410.

Okay, then what would you recommend for a case?

I'd rather not build it myself, but I could.

No.

That new build is even worse on account of the case: The Revolt has very little cooling and space.

The only case that I can recommend from that company are the Thermaltake Urban R31, Corsair Graphite Series 230T, Thermaltake Chase A31, or NZXT Phantom full tower. The rest of their cases are crap.

As for other changes I would recommend:
  • Since you're only gaming and not overclocking, no reason for you to get the Core i7 4770K. So go for the Core i5-4460 instead.
  • Video card wise, ditch the GTX 760 2GB and go for the R9 270X or R9 280 since there's deal for both cards right now on that website.
  • Ditch that Corsair PSU and go for the XFX Core Edition Pro850W power supply instead.
  • With the money saved from the above changes, upgrade the monitor as the 19" with its low resolution is just wasting the video card's potential and sacrificing a lot of screen real-estate. However, just buy the monitor separately as there's no point in getting the monitor with the PC from the same company due to the massive markup. Go for this monitor:
    $156 - Asus VS239H-P Black 23" LED IPS Monitor
  • Also, for the primary drive, get one of the Samsung Evo series SSD (whichever size fits your remaining budget). The SSD makes a huge difference in the overall responsiveness of the PC. So if you're going to spend $1700 on a PC, it better damn include a SSD. Also keep that Seagate drive as the secondary drive.
  • Drop the wireless/bluetooth and internal USB hub from the build as they're pretty much useless. You haven't mentioned needing wireless access nor are you cramming in that many internal USB devices (card readers) inside the case. So all in all, waste of money.
  • Swap the OS for Windows 8.1 as it has some under the hood performance tweaks that'll make the system a bit more responsive than Windows 7.

Just to be clear: Bang for the buck value is not a concern here? I ask because building it yourself will get you far far better parts for the money and/or lower overall price.

Well, I can build my own, I know how to put a PC together, I just don't have a clue on what parts to get. I'm afraid I'd pick some bad parts (as you cans ee here, I have).
And I don't want to ask here about building a PC with "Everything" because the sticky post said not to.

If I were to build my own PC, then I'd need help with picking out every single part. If you'd be willing to help me with that, It'd be great.

Well, that's what we do here in this subforum on a daily basis. Just look through the threads on the first page alone and you'll see that this is true.

Anyway, I'll be back later with a build list for you. I'm hungry and it's the 4th of July. Also, how long is the drive to this Microcenter for you?:
http://www.microcenter.com/site/stores/st-louis-park.aspx

Also, while you're waiting for a build list, I recommend looking at cases and choosing your own. I recommend these cases:
$60 - Corsair Carbide Series 200R ATX Case
$63 - Corsair Graphite Series 230T Black ATX Case
$75 - Corsair Graphite Series 230T Black w/ Window ATX Case
$100 - Corsair Carbide Series 400R ATX Case
$100 - NZXT Phantom PHAN-001WT White Full Tower ATX Case
$100 - Corsair Carbide Series 500R ATX Case

For gaming I'd go Intel i5-4690.

If you have no idea what to look at, you could research the Gigabyte GA-H97-D3H or GA-Z97-D3H motherboard,
Seasonic S12II 520 watt power supply,
Kingston Fury RAM,
Western Digital Blue hard drive,
CoolerMaster cases (There's also Thermaltake, Antec and others...)

Don't worry about how long it'll take to help me. It's the 4th, enjoy it!
Well, it's a couple hours away. I'd prefer to order everything online if possible.
I would love to save some money. The only reason I set my budget so high was because otherwise I couldn't get a decent computer pre-built. I don't need a supercomputer, so if you can get me a mid-high end gaming PC build for ~$1000-1500, that'd be great :)

$95 - Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit OEM DVD
$156 - Asus VS239H-P 23 inch monitor

$1281 - Total before taxes

The "savings" from going the DIY route allowed me to add in a larger monitor (and possibly the keyboard, assuming that you want that particular one). Even though these parts aren't the best (or most expensive) I could buy, they're more than enough for a gaming machine.

Dont worry about the "everything" remark. That just means that they dont want you to type the word everything in lieu of writing every part you need. They want you to write out CPU, GPU, MOBO, RAM HDD. COOLER OS and so on. I would suggest building your own as well. People love to spend other peoples money and are glad to help. Hehehe.

As for the suggestions. Im going to agree with the above poster on some things.

Okay thanks guys :)
Just wondering, don't I need to get some sort of cooling system too?

As an Amazon Associate, HardForum may earn from qualifying purchases.
The stock HSF is fine if you aren't overclocking. If you live in a hot environment, however, you could get by with the Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. (There's no need for you to buy a more expensive CPU cooler.)

What are you looking for in a gaming keyboard?

Basically a flat (non-mechanical) keyboard with a palmrest. I like how the Razer Deathstalker looks.
