Precision X settings for both cards:

Both of these cards have the 1.212V BIOS mod (it shows up in all programs except Precision X for some reason). They boost to around 1325Mhz on the core and 3250Mhz on the memory. The thing is, they become less stable the more I increase the power target. Does that make any sense whatsoever? They're certainly not overheating as they're watercooled and never get above 35C even under load. I can bring the power target up to 150%, but they just become more and more crashy the higher it gets.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this might be?

I don't even know what power target is lol....On amd cards we have a power limit. I wonder if there similar?

Are they not the same thing? It is a very good question though;)

Nvidia limits the amount of power 1 card can draw. That includes memory and GPU overall.

So if you used 106% above the 100% Nvidia allows you to use. It will automatically throttle the card so you do not go over the 106% (I think its 106% for stock nvidia cards). Classifieds and Lightnings allow 120% I believe.

Basically it is Nvidia limiting you on overclocking.

To my knowledge only a select few cards (some with bios mods) allows you to by pass the power limit.

I Also think Nvidia limits the volts to 1.21 for Classifieds and Lightnings (although you can get by the power limit and vcore limit has in place with the lightning with a bios mod and rbby tool).

Anyway im tired and I knew the answer lol
