How Much Would You Pay to Watch a YouTube Video?

Unthinkable for YouTube to even contemplate going to a pay service paradigm you say? Some people in the know would tend to disagree with your assumption. It’s a business model after all, and when and where corporations feel they can make more profit, they usually do.

YouTube video network Fullscreen, which may or may not sell itself in the near future, is reportedly working on its own destination site, where YouTube stars would charge fans for an exclusive “window” to see their work.

The quality is generally not good enough to warrant me paying anything. I'll watch the ads if I must, but no way will I pay for that content.

Depends on what it is.

User created content as it is now... $0.

Entire television shows and movies ala Netflix and Hulu with no ads... less than $15 per month.

Shows and movies I might pay for if I didn't get cable. Otherwise I'd pay nothing to watch videos on youtube. Sure I like cat videos but if I had to pay I'd have a lot more free time.

For quality in videos to go up, something like this has to happen. There's not enough money in ads for 99% of content creators.

Nothing.
Plenty of life stuff to do that doesnt involve spending more.

I hope this marks the beginning of the end for YouTube. I still can't believe some of these "personalities" get paid. None of them have any clue as to how to produce a professional video; they just think they're special because a bunch of people even dumber than they are subscribed to their channel.

Elitist much?

Anyway, If they produced some original content and had monthly access fee with some limited ads(hahah fat chance) then I'd say 5-10 dollars a month. Otherwise not a dime. Oh and they'd have to stop Fing with their layout and features every other day.

There are definitely some higher quality things out there (Fallout Nuka Break, Fallout Lore, Elder Scrolls Lore, etc that would be worth a small fee ... I would be more willing to pay a small monthly fee (like Spotify, Pandora, Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc) that gave you unlimited access, rather than on a case by case basis though

I would love to see this implemented now. Then I'd laugh when it flops.

Show me my favorite team's games, and now we're talking seriously.

Nothing. Which is exactly the same amount I will pay the competitors that capitalize on Youtube's business mistakes by offering the same thing for free.

They already play ads, that's bad enough. If it goes paid I will never even fart their direction anymore.

I'm already using it very scarcely, mostly to get a laugh with russian car crash videos.

90% of people watching youtube are poor. Who the fuck would pay?
That's what the ads are for.

Allow me to cap this in order to convey my disgust with the mere idea...

NOT ONE FUCKING GOD DAMN RED CENT.

*cough*

For TV/Movies (Netflix-comparable content) 5 dollar. For user created "content"? Pay me to watch it for the low fee of 20 dollar a month, 15 dollar a month for a whole 12 month subscription! ;)

The good thing that would come out of this should be some serious competition in the area.

I don't think they're targeting the average video of a kitten. I think this is more for the popular series. Like VGHS, Fallout, etc .. Stuff with decent production value.

And I see nothing wrong with that. I don't know why people are screaming bloody murder over this.

This should work out well....:eek::eek:

This is a joke, right?

Oh, sorry. Yeah, I would pay exactly what it's worth to me. NOT A DAMN THING.

There is a reason why these videos are on TouTube and not Netflix, Amazon Prime, Cable TV, etc. Its because a large enough audience will not pay to watch them. YouTube is a win/ win/ win for everyone involved. Google gets ad revenue dollars in exchange for hosting. Amateur film makers get exposure. Viewers get free entertainment in exchange for watching an ad every X minutes. You try to charge for that and the videos getting a million hits will decrease to about 1,000. Go ask <insert your favorite tv show that was cancelled> how low ratings did for them.

It doesn't have to be a 100% switch though ... The folks behind Fallout Nuka Break have already had two successful Kickstarters to fund their videos (which are excellent) and their 3rd is ongoing (and already above the funding goal) ... I wouldn't want to see the entire YouTube collection require fees (as they don't warrant that) but I would like to see more high quality episodic stuff like Fallout Lore, Elder Scrolls Lore, Fallout Nuka Break, Red vs Blue, etc ... if it results in The Annoying Orange - The Movie I am out though :D

Absolutely nothing. Cat videos and 12 year olds doing headshots in COD, yeah defenetly not worth it.

$0.00

As a side note..... Who the hell still watches ads before YouTube videos?!

This is 2014 people. Install Ad Blocker. It's not hard.

Interesting that no one has mentioned that the streaming sucks to even begin with. Android youtube app will RARELY play/work. PC streaming quality/buffering is atrocious. Sound is only stereo. If google cant even get their app to work correctly, dont expect anything coming from my wallet.

What about these though ... these are not cat videos

Wouldn't it be worth something to have more like those and less like this https://www.youtube.com/user/realannoyingorange ;)

wont pay anything ill go some where else. I think that youtube will lose ALOT of users if they go pay to watch type style.

I would pay... Nothing.

It is already free.

I have ad block, so what ad?

Too late to make it a pay walled...

For regular content, obviously nothing but then this clearly isn't their aim.

For premium content or more precise A La Carte of Cable TV type content, if priced reasonably I would consider it. Though forced ads like Hulu does would be an instant deal breaker for me. Either serve it like netflix, or F off. If given the choice between not watching it and watching it with ads, I'll choose to not watch it Every single time. Netflix and Amazon prime so far are great. Everything else can take a flying leap.
