Ok, I have a closet in my house that is used for security, cable and phones. We don't have a house phone and they used Cat5E cable when they wired the house. I want to terminate these cables as straight through hookups so that some of the machines in my house can be wired directly into a switch versus wireless.

I know how to do all of this. The problem is my wiring panel looks like the photos below.

I also want to my my 4 bay ready nas in here to physically hookup to the switch as well.

How would you guys do this and make it look as nice as possible? Obviously the readnas wont fit IN the panel so I was thinking of maybe a shelf or something getting hooked up.

Again, this is about aesthetics as I would like it to look nice or at least as nice as possible.

put a jack in the wall right behind that wire shelf.... run the wire down the wall in to the box... this is for your nas

put the switch in the box, reterminate the 5e with just rj45s... or if you want to be fancy look up the modules available for that panel, i bet there is a network patch panel one available you can mount in those rows of holes...

Is it possible to mount a patch panel above that? Terminate the cables in the patch panel and then sit the switch on top of the rack. I don't know how many ports you will need.

probably better, i just noticed you don't have an outlet inside that box.... that's gonna be important :p

Yeah it doesn't have power. That is one of the things I am looking at tackling. Half tempted to ask the electric company how much it would run to put one in there. Otherwise, I am getting creative with long corded surge protector going to a UPS.

If you had power, you could do something like this. Still making changes, but originally this only had 4 lines in it. They do make patch panels built to fit in these, that would work perfect for anything less than 12 lines.

Zipties are to hold shit in place atm btw. they are not tight :) for those eyes that are tweaking at them.

That is a pretty nice setup, Muegen!

ty, decided to redo most of it (hence the zipties and dangling power above). just waiting for my ERPOE to come in to finish up.

Looked a little more, there are quite a few patch panels that work with these, suttle makes a few nice small 12 port ones if you with to mount outside the panel like I did. Usually there is always a power outlet close by to these panel... None over by a light switch by chance like mine?

I've used vertical patch blocks (12 port) and rack mount patch panels from 12 ports on up. Just depends on the install.
