Watch Dogs

Just about any PC gamer who has been around a while should be able to do this same thing. We've been editing and tweaking config files since there were files to tweak. Not just game files either. Remember config.sys and autoexec.bat? :D It's funny what will make you "famous" for a minute or two these days.

It's even cool that he did it. One's head swelling over it though is a little silly.

The way I gauge the quality of a mod is whether the work you in could be used as reference for a job in that field. No respectable interviewer would accept simple configuration edits. Thus, his ego is way unwarranted.

Just my take on it.

I've found the game to be very virtual memory intensive even with 4GB VRAM. I highly recommend placing the paging file on a SSD or the fastest HDD you have.

I'm doubting they'll fix the BS swappiness. I don't think I've ever seen a game do that much or at least noticed it that much.

yeah guru3d's forums are fucking horrendous. it's like a bunch of idiot children who think they're the most important thing in the universe when in reality they barely know more than a console gamer. did you see the 'other guy' (kaiditz?)'s posts? 'wow u stole my work that took me two weeks and ur claiming its urs omg and u got baned this one time plz someone close this thiefs thread!!!!!!!!!' and then in between those posts you have people sucking their dicks saying how they've done such a great thing. what they did really isn't impressive at all, it probably would take someone who actually knew what they were doing an hour or two. it's like reddit.

Dude, we're the exact same.

Clearly you missed the thread two-three days ago about how all men are disgusting pigs and we should be heavily monitored, and then when said men rightfully complained that "Um, that's a human problem, not a man only problem" they basically called everyone here "Loser dickless never had sex virgin losers" with comments like "Ugh this is pretty much what I expected from a site full of nerds" etc comments

So finally got SweetFX to work w/ Watch Dogs... It makes that dumb mod completely irrelevant since I could give a shit less about headlight shadows..

SweetFX is essentially just adding post-processing AA and color changes, though. Still not really equivalent to the E3 demo graphics. Mostly I've found it just helps games not look so washed out.

Is that shitty mod still working?
Also, of course it didn't fix stuttering. Would be amazingly surprised if it did.

It's probably just 58 MB of blank data.

Other people say the Patch files got replaced with the new patch.
So nope, not working. He just needs to update it maybe.

It did.

The new patch file doesn't change any game graphical settings. Just random script, texture, object and mission fixes. The binary and dll were updated also. I'm calling shenanigans on any performance fixes they claimed to have made. It literally runs identical to before the patch.

nice screenies!...is SweetFX difficult to get working with the game?

I had trouble initially. You need to grab a modified 64Bit version of SweetFX and make sure you turn off RTSS (MSI Afterburner).. RTSS kept crashing the game on loading. With Windows 8.1 you obviously have to use Raedon Pro of course.

everything looks sharper and the colors look more vibrant in your screenshots

apparently the patch is a pre-patch and not the actual patch to fix the stuttering issues, per the Ubi forums.

Ubisoft has provided a statement on its website regarding the mod from user TheWorse that activates old graphics files and purportedly improves graphical fidelity in Watch Dogs...Ubisoft acknowledges that the files do exist in Watch Dogs and may improve graphical quality in some situations, but it says that the files were deactivated because they reduce performance and playability throughout the game

statement in full below:

The dev team is completely dedicated to getting the most out of each platform, so the notion that we would actively downgrade quality is contrary to everything we've set out to achieve...We test and optimize our games for each platform on which they’re released, striving for the best possible quality...The PC version does indeed contain some old, unused render settings that were deactivated for a variety of reasons, including possible impacts on visual fidelity, stability, performance and overall gameplay quality...Modders are usually creative and passionate players, and while we appreciate their enthusiasm, the mod in question (which uses those old settings) subjectively enhances the game’s visual fidelity in certain situations but also can have various negative impacts...Those could range from performance issues, to difficulty in reading the environment in order to appreciate the gameplay, to potentially making the game less enjoyable or even unstable

This is why we have graphics settings and PC of various calibers, this statement is frankly an insult to people playing on PC basically saying its easier to support the console.

Still not convinced that Ubisoft actually gives a damn about making the PC version better.

The guy added some ridiculous blur and bloom effects and the gaming community goes wild.
It's a good thing I don't have any pity for Ubisoft otherwise I'd be very busy defending them on this one.

It just goes to show how pathetic the PC gaming community is these days, if this kind of mod had been released 10 years ago he'd be laughed off the internet. It's not an "E3 Mod", it's barely even passable as a mod in the first place.

The fact that Ubisoft feels like they need to issue an official response to this garbage is shameful. They need to comment on the shadows (so far) and NOTHING else. They don't even work properly so it's quite clearly an unfinished feature.
Pretty sure you can add those fucking ugly post-process/distortion effects to ANY game, if you want to ruin it.

I can't wait for the day those mod threads over at Guru die.. IMO they are both snake oil salesman at this point. I really wish both TheWorse and Kadz would just be banned already. I enjoy both forums but ever since that mod shit popped up over there I feel like I'm swimming in a sea of 10 year olds and then those two constantly fighting with each other.

is the 'mod' really that bad?...why so much praise online for it?...even TotalBiscuit said it looks markedly better with it enabled

It's not that it's that bad.. It's that it's really not that good

It adds headlight shadows which are glitchy
It adds ridiculous bloom amounts which just puts a orange haze everywhere
The DOF is laughable (can turn it off)
And some bigger explosions and stuff
Lighting changes that makes everything look more "E3"ish
Shadows flicker

Thing is... With SweetFX you can make it look much better too without all the glitchy crap.

This is with just medium textures, and a default Vanilla game before and after with a simple SweetFX preset.

Again. I'm not even cheating by using Ultra or High textures which no one can even run smoothly in the first place.. Brightness in game is at 100 in all

Been working on it for hours brah.. Now.. If someone comes here claiming I stole his SweetFX preset called GTA IV Enhanced from sfx.thelazy.net and just changed a few values.. I TOTALLY DIDN'T! 100% all my work! Pinky promise!!

This is the only thing I enjoy doing in the game.

Retexturing > Playing the actual game

what do you mean 'even' totalbiscuit? totalbiscuit is a moron with a loud voice. the mod does nothing graphically positive except enable shadow projection from vehicle headlights which doesn't even work properly. the shadows flicker, are too sharp, and extend too far. the light from the headlights will randomly start rendering at 15 fps and the light projection entities themselves are misplaced. the other tweaks are just that; tweaks, and ugly ones to boot.

it gets so much praise because the guy who made it used a bunch of buzzwords and posted screenshots where he turned his brightness down and increased saturation/contrast. the game with his mod looks identical to vanilla watch dogs except for the broken headlight shadows, fucked up bloom that ruins night lighting, and stupid dof on everything five feet from your face.
