34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

Has anyone got Watch_Dogs working on the 34UM95 yet? There is a 21:9 option in the game and the res is available, but it's horribly distorted.

But wait, Starlare listed that as one of the game that works perfectly without flawless widescreen. Some other games in his list too also need to use flawless widescreen if they work properly at all in 21:9. Of course I am the bad guy for being honest and calling him out for his BS claims.

and here it goes again...
Here what goes? It does not even phase you guys when someone blatantly lies but its a problem when I comment on anything? Get the monitor and enjoy it but dont be fooled by people that are full of crap telling you every game works without tweaking. Especially when he is naming specific games that are known to require flawless widescreen to work correctly.

Kids...I'm warning you for the last time, play nice or no video games for a WEEK!

Do these monitors require 3GB+ video cards? Debating between SLi GTX 670 2GB or getting r9 290 and selling the video card to run games on this monitor. I'm pretty set on getting this when its available on amazon but don't know where to put my current 27 inch IPS monitor. I would like to use it as a dual monitor but no space. i would need another table.

At this point with Wolfenstein, Watch Dogs and even that silly Dying Light game, 2gb is not cutting it even at just 1080. I think a 290 or 290x will be a better choice going forward at this much higher res than using 2gb cards.

Dude, this monitor is 21:9 which is fairly unique for that 20% of games that need a little bit of help to get full support....but your overblowing the situation out to some preposterous levels. Anybody who has gone through the HELL of surround, eyefinity and monster 5x1 eyefinity setups can tell you that the inconveniences of this displays compatibility with a few....FEW GAMES....is nothing but a drop in the bucket compared to the headaches of multi-monitor setups.

I am not over blowing anything. AGAIN we had someone making claims about specific games working 100% correctly without flawless widescreen that were not true. How about you say something him about misleading people instead of worrying about my reply?

Actually Watch Dogs is working properly with the monitor. Not sure why some people are having issues.

It needs flawless widescreen to fix fov and menus. The game is vert- and 21:9 cuts off the top and bottom compared to 16:9. Once again backing up my claims that most people dont even notice issues.

Because compared to eyefinity or surround setups getting games to run proper on this setup IS NO BIG FUCKING DEAL. Its actually not even worth bringing up, but I guess people need to find something to bitch about all the time.

Why dont you actually pay attention to what I am saying? How many times does it need to be said that my comment is in reference to someone lying about specific games not needing flawless widescreen. Direct your crappy attitude towards him not me.

Wow ;) misterbobby is STILL here pointlessly arguing. Still does not have the mental capacity to simply let it go......if people have issues, then people have issues. They won't, they won't. You don't need to spend the next 129 years fighting people in this thread.

Dude, get a life

Incidently..........here's the cutoff point of happiness with this monitor:

If you come from 120hz screens, you won't like the 34UM95. It's input lag increase is noticable if you're conditioned to a 120hz 2ms screen. If you're used to high rez IPS 60hz screens like me, you won't notice any additional input lag.

Well I'm hoping for maxwells to come out end of this year. But rumors say it will be out next year. I think i might wait for them since I don't want to have to sell my PSU and get a new one to run 290 crossfires. I would rather get the next maxwell see how they do and if i need more power get a 2nd one to sli. Hopefully by then these monitors will become more mainstream and I can get it for around 800 new

2GB Vram would do the job but 3Gb or 4Gb would be the ideal I'm thinking.

Anybody here try World of Tanks in Ultra HD? Does it work without issues? How was the performance?

Thanks!

I did. Although I didn't like the game and uninstalled it in the first 15 mins, it worked fine with all maxed on a 670 gtx.

Hi all this is my first post here.
Just got a LG 34UM95-P on Saturday to go with my trash can Mac Pro and PC.

The display is awesome for the audio editing / recording work I do but I think I may have a issue with the USB ports on the monitor and would like to ask a massive favour and see if anyone here could test something for me ?

My issue is that I have the display connected over thunder bolt to the Mac Pro and then I put a USB self powered drive or SSD in a enclosure connected to the USB 3 port.

I can then see the drive but can't use it

I can use it if I use a USB data + power cable and connect to 2 ports on the monitor then the drives work fine.

Spoke with LG today and they told me that some drives will need external power but I have tried 6 different drives in various enclosures and still the same issue.

Has any one else ran into this problem or could perhaps please test it with a few USB 3 self powered drives?

I've tried Samsung evo SSD's in various enclosures OCZ vertex 460 drives in various enclosures , WD my passports , WD elements , oand a load of other various drives but all the same issue unless they are mains powered or I use the double cable.

Pen drives seem to work fine as do keyboard or mouse.

I am a bit concerned that I may have a issue with the voltage running to the USB ports as I didn't have this problem with my LG 29EA93
For example a Vertex ower Consumption of.... Idle: 0.6W, Active: 2.70W. The USB ports on the display say 5v so this should be ok ?

Would really appreciate if anyone else could test there ports with a few drives?

Thanks to all for any help.

Oh and for anyone interested in seeing the monitor in my setup it is here

Well, I don't know about the 34UM95, but it does work indeed on the 29UM65. No need for flawless but if you want to use it go ahead...

Only the cutscenes are in 16:9, the rest is fine.

I'm not familiar with pricing of monitors but do you guys think that this will go down to 700-800 soon with AOC and dell coming out with similar monitors? Or do you think these are right in their price range of 900 or so? Debating if I should wait for AOC to come out before purchasing.

If history is any indication.

You will be able to find the LG for ~900-1000.

Dell version will be around the same price but will be able to find on sell more often with allt he promotions they run.

The AOC version should hit close to the 700-800 mark

Expect in a few months to see knock off versions (the korean versions) using the same LG panel for around 500-600.

Of course this is all just my estimates based off of the 2560x1440 pricing that i've experienced over the last 2 years.

I bought a 29UM65 the other day and I think it'll need some getting used to. I was used to 1920x1080 on a 23" so it's a bit overwhelming for now. A handful of the games I play aren't going to do the 2560 width, but I can do 16:9 on them if I want to play them. The games that do take advantage of it though are a world of difference. Shame that Titanfall cuts off the map and HUD. I do like it a lot, but still, I find myself wondering if the price premium is worth it or if I should just go back to the old monitor and wait for something else awesome around the corner.

So.. how is the glow on these things? Is it worth my $?

For what it's worth, I haven't had a ton of time to use mine yet, but I don't really notice much at all. Actually less than on my old 23" U2312HM. My local Best Buy had the 29 I bought on display, on sale, so I figured it was worth pulling the trigger to see.

Yesterday Amazon emailed me saying that they do not know when my pre order will ship. Just a few seconds ago I was notified by Amazon that my monitor has shipped via FedEx overnight and that I will be getting it tomorrow (I didn't even ask for overnight shipping)

Gotta love Amazon.

When did you put the order in? It'd be nice to have an idea as to their current turn around time.

The first day that amazon put it up for pre-order.

Wish I hadn't succumbed to the allure of the $899 at another website. I had my order in early the first day at Amazon, but cancelled in favor of the lower price.

Really going to regret it (if it ever ships) and I have to do an exchange for any reason.

Thats one of the reasons I stuck with amazon. Should I need to exchange or return it, it will be a painless process.

I only put my order in May 24th. I have a feeling I'll be waiting a while. :( In the mean time I have to decide whether to keep my computer hooked up to my 40" TV, which between my wife and my daughter I never get to use, or dust off my Samsung 712N. That's right 1280x1024 gaming. :D

It seems I got incredibly lucky getting MC match B&H's preorder price. They had one in stock and I nabbed it :D

The display for me is just incredible. I use it for work. Very very rare gaming but nothing high FPS, just RPS. So, it's the best monitor for me at this point in time and I don't know when I would possibly need to upgrade it. Only when Windows gets DPI scaling right and 8K+ 30+" monitors become available for under 1K, lol...

The particular monitor I have has pretty good factory color calibration though I'm sure it would get better with a HW calibration. No dead pixels or any other problems. Perfect AG level for me, a bit less than the U3014 I used briefly. i7-4770K drives it just fine though I had display flickering issues with it under DP 1.2, which wasn't present using a GTX 760. The iGPU must be struggling I presume...

When viewing a black picture in a dark room, I observed some glow in all corners, and very little light bleed on the lower left. Glow gets worse when you get close to the monitor but it's expected, and you're not supposed to sit very close to it anyway. During normal use, at normal sitting distance and position, none of this glow (or light bleed) is observable. I had similar experience with U3014...

Compared to U3014, 34UM95 is so much better with much wider angle. It's a completely different experience. In fact with U3014, I had to move my head up and down quite a bit, which was really tiresome. With 34UM95, it's just sideways head movement, which is much easier on the body.

Anyway, that's my experience so far... ;)

Ok, so update on my 29UM65. I do notice a little bit of glow in the bottom left, but it's not bad. Less noticeable than on my Dell 23.

Here's an issue I'm running into though, if anyone else has come across it because Google does me no good. Some games only want to run 1920x1080, and I'm okay with having black bars on the sides. But when I set the games to 1920x1080 and have the monitor set to 1:1, I still get black bars on the top and bottom, and I'm assuming some horizontal resizing as well because proportionally it looks normal. But it's like it's shrinking the picture 20-30 pixels in each direction. Every review I've seen of the monitor shows it working normally in 1:1, so what gives? Hooked up via HDMI to a 6950, if that makes any difference.

So as it turns out my UM95 has developed backlight bleed and is being picked up by LG tomorrow for repair. Mine was from Germany and it's LG UK which are dealing with it. They said turnaround should be 5-7 days.

Instead of 1:1, what happens if you use the original setting? It should result in a full screen picture (horizontally and/or vertically), but with a preserved aspect ratio.

Also consider checking the AMD driver control panel for over scan settings. When I have used HDMI in the past it was enabled by default and caused similar picture issues.

What are you guys using to push this LG monitor? I current have a 680 SLI setup but I think I'm going to have problems gaming since I max out at 2GB of vid mem.

I went to two 780Ti because I was able to get them at $600 each. But previously before I purchased this monitor I only had a 1080p monitor with 1 GTX 580. So I needed to upgrade to even run the monitor at its native resolution due to no display port on the GTX 580. With one 780Ti I could run most games maxed, but I was planning this setup around Star Citizen.

But personally if I had SLI 680's I would keep them and wait until the 800 series is released next year. You may need to turn down some AA, but at such a high resolution I wouldn't worry about it. I also wouldn't base Vram usage around 1 or 2 games like Watch Dogs.

Got it! Thank you guys very much! I set it to Original and it didn't make a change, but then I went into the AMD settings and noticed it was running about 7% underscan. Everything is great now!
