Watch Dogs

Seems that I'm unable to load any saved games after switching from NVIDIA to AMD. I deleted the gamerprofile.xml to regenerate the graphics settings but it kicks off to a black screen after loading the last save.

Any known fixes for this? :(

How to get away from cops:

1. Get on a boat. Go into the water. Grenade or disable the helicopter. And go under a bridge. (Though you don't have to get under a bridge, just be a little far from the coast.

2. Get on a train. Ride it to the river. Grenade or disable the helicopter. Wait.

Seriously, it's way easier than going into the garage. Because one, you have to know where the garage is and there is no indication of where it is. And two, they can still go down there, and you have to lead em away if they manage to get to you. Isn't highly likely but much more likely than the other two options I mentioned.

You can alternatively just jump into the water and get under a bridge as well. It is a bit limiting, because if they find you, you have basically no defense.

Funniest thing I've seen yet... is that NPCs can't swim. And I literally chased a criminal to the waterways, and he jumps over it and neutralizes himself. Try it, don't tackle or kill him, and he'll just jump into the water.

Really no different than in GTA IV where you could just drive to the nearest helipad and fly away

I don't I ever even saw a single helipad in my playthroughts of GTA IV. Only time I was ever using one was where they gave them to you in missions....

Awesome, now it seems like my game is stuck at the loading screen forever...save game corruption bullshit?

There was a helicopter tour guide in the far southeast of the middle island. Lots of helicopters sitting around.

There are a few.. A large one with usually 3-4 copters down near the sanitation department/bus terminal on the banks of the water.. Also another one (just going off memory) right before entering one of the entrances of the Holland Tunnel

Anyone else get texture glitches after an hour or so of gameplay? Doesn't happen in any other game but this. Running SLI GTX Titans on 4930k

No texture corruption. Ran into a hacker that was inside of a building without any openings. Nice to know that fucktards will write kiddy scripts for any damn game.

I held off on posting any serious replies here until I finished the game.

Overall I would say it's a solid 8/10. You can definitely feel the heavy Assassin's Creed influence. The game was fun. It needs some polish but I really see a lot of parallels to AC1. A solid idea that needs more time to hit it's stride. I think the hacking was done well. Mini game when it mattered and just a button when it was a mechanic. I know people criticized the hacking as simple button pushing, but in a high speed car chase do you really want to do a mini game every time you need to flip the traffic lights? I think they had a good balance on mini game and functionality there.

Overall the hacking added an awesome new aspect not seen in other games. Being able to bounce around, set traps, lure guards, etc. lent a whole new dimension to the game play. Combat in this is far more satisfying that the GTA kill the red dot game play. The story was fairly good and while it went out there a bit, it all still had a general string through it. Aiden as a character was decent but not as well developed as other Ubi characters like Ezio. Gun play felt good and the crafting system wasn't bad. The side missions were generally good distractions with a bit of story.

Car handling and physics are a major disappointment. Cars tend to bounce off without issue and feel very floaty. In any sequel Ubi has a ton of work on the car mechanics. I'm also disappointed you could not engage in melee combat at will. There are times I'd like to take out a citizen but not kill them. It would be nice if you could do takedowns on demand. Another downside was the performance. While I appreciate the game is demanding and the days of mediocre PCs running highest settings are over, I still feel this title could use a bit of optimization.

Graphics in general were good to great depending on weather/lighting conditions. Daytime looked the worst while night/rain looks fantastic. There has been much discussion about textures but overall I think they are fantastic. While the "style" might not fit everyone's needs, you cannot argue they are detailed. They are much higher resolution than almost any other game I've played and things like signs are easily readable even with small text on them. Textures are sharp, even if the art direction in some places is a bit dull.

I enjoyed my romp through Chicago and I am looking forward to the inevitable sequel. If Ubisoft can make the same strides from WD1 to WD2 that they did in the AC series I think I have another great franchise to add to my list.

P.S. I also wanted to make mention to all the GTA5 comparisons. Yes, GTA5 does many things better than WD. GTA5 is one of my favorite games of all time. However, I think it's completely unfair to hold WD to the GTA standard. Rockstar has had 7 games to refine the modern day open world game. This is Ubi's first attempt. I think WD is a much better game than some of Rockstar's early GTA efforts based on gameplay. With a bit more experience I think we'll have a fantastic new open world series to explore.

nice review, demingo. thanks for posting. looking forward to jumping back into this game after one more patch (the June patch they've promised).

I so want to jump back into the game... but seems the game doesn't want me to play it after I switched to an AMD GPU. :(

*prods Ubisoft Montreal to cough up a patch ASAP*

After going to the PCGamingWiki page for Watch_Dogs, I found a fix for my situation. Doubling virtual RAM helped with loading the game. Pretty weird but it works. :)

The driving dynamics are enough for me to not even play- it's like you are driving hovercrafts around- it's horrible. I have a modest system and have everything on High with no AA at all and I still get stuttering all the time @1080p. In the meantime I am watching my friend play smoothly on a Xbox One which is really not that horrible looking compared to the PC. I should have known better to think there would be no issues when a game comes out for 5 different systems at once. Very disappointed and quite frankly makes me lose faith in PC gaming.

Change your AA. I think temporal AA causes a ghosting effect glitch.
This. Temporal SMAA causes this glitch on my SLI GTX 780s. Before the corruption, I really couldn't tell a difference between Temporal and regular SMAA.

If you just do the story missions and little else it doesn't take anywhere near that amount of time. Getting to Act II is only a few story missions in. I think I'm a ways into Act IV and I certainly haven't been playing for 20-30 hours. I've done several side missions as well but not a ton.

I just started Act 3 and have 19hrs logged.. I'm procrastinating on a lot of things because I want to play the game on High Textures and waiting for this magical patch Ubisoft promised.. I just want to play 50% of the game without stuttering.. Just a normal old game... Quite the concept to want..

The game is too long as it is. The main storyline should be about a third the length it is now.

I feel the pain of all you guys having performance issues. I think this is the first AAA title I have gotten where I didn't fall into that category. The game actually seems to run as intended for me.

I didn't....know....that was possible :D:D

is Ubisoft too busy at E3 showing off their upcoming games to work on the promised 'major' patch?

Wow, the ending to this game...total sequel bait...almost infuriatingly so. So much left unfinished.

Nailed it. Especially the "random crimes" and the helicopter disabling parts. So fucking stupid.

Another thing that is awful about this game is the controls. They feel shitty like the AC games...trying to get in-out of a boat over the side is fucking impossible, you always end up jumping in the water first. Likewise, half the time when you try to get in/out of a crane lift, you end up jumping over the edge or something stupid.

Hilarious.

Someone posted this is the comments of that video: Ubisoft Game: The Review

There is so much truth to that article, I am over ALL Ubi sandbox games because every single one of them plays the fucking same!

Character with parkour abilities - check!
Lots of fluff side missions and collectibles which mostly suck - check!
Instant fail stealth missions - check!
Slow scripted prologue- check!
Map divided by annoying control points in enemy bases and structures that need to be ascended to reveal the map - check!
Sucky economy and crafting systems which are by and large irrelevant - check!

I'm about to hit 30 hours and I'm 3-4 missions into Act 2.
I pretty much did everything.
I think I'm about 20 hours or so in and I still have not finished the first act :p. I'm pretty much clearing every area of the side missions before I bother going after the story. I still have the southern and northwestern areas to start . But I haven't played this game in more than 2 weeks now because I'm hoping for a patch to come out sooner rather than later.

That's how I feel. I don't know exactly how many hours I played (is there a way to check in uplay?) but I know it's a lot, but I'm still one mission into Act 2. I took a break last week because of a project I needed to work on for school and now don't want to go back until they fix crossfire issues and performance.

Started some initial texture modding fun.. Did a quick test to make sure all takes well..

Chicago is now enforced by the LCPD
