After the live stream today from GOG.com and CD Projekt RED, they have teamed up to deliver The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for $47.99 if you own TW1 and TW2. You can redeem your CD keys on GOG.com if you purchased TW1 and TW2 elsewhere, and discounts will be applied.

Redeem your free backup copy of TW1 and TW2 here:

Doing this will give you DRM free access to your games.

Was wondering when this game was coming out -- Feb '15. I can wait. I put about 6hrs into the first, 100 into the 2nd. I've got to finish the first game some day between now and 2015, haha.

With you on that one sonsonate. I got about 12 hours into the first one, but didn't finish it.

I really enjoyed TW2 though. Maybe I'll get around to the first one and complete it.

TW2 was one of the best games I've ever played, and judging from the trailer, this third one will be even better.

It's worth it. TW1's gameplay may not be as good as TW2, and your choices may not have as significant effects as TW2, but TW1's storyline ends up great.

I love this series, and this company. I bought both previous games off of steam, but I'll definitely grab #3 off of GOG.

Preordered it as soon as I saw it was available :). I think this is the farthest preorder date I have ever placed for a game not counting kickstarter ones.

Dammit I wish they'd offer these games on the console. I dont say that about many games, but I think these would be awesome on a console.

lol thanks. I bought a PS3 when they said they were going to release TW2 on it...then they backed out. I'm sure it wouldn't have been as beautiful on the console, but the controls scream for a console...and me laying in bed not going anywhere for hours :p

Exactly why I picked up a 360 controller for my PC. It doesnt solve the laying in bed part unless you have an HTPC in your bedroom.

Thanks for understanding ;). Might just have to get a controller for TW3, run a long hdmi cable and have at it. Save me some bucks from buying a PS4 :)

In for 1. Bought TW1 & TW2 from GOG. Definitely my favorite series out right now. Will have to retool my PC though. The 2nd one made me upgrade, this one shouldn't be any different.

How do I find the game code on Steam so I can list it over at GOG.
There is no way I will ever find the e-mail where I purchased the game...

I feel like I've looked everywhere.

On the Steam client library, click on Witcher to open up the Witcher page. You should see "CD Key" link to the very right, where bunch of other things (forum, store page, dlc, etc etc) are linked.

Thanks,
Naturally it was under my nose.
On the bright side, I know where a lot of stuff in Steam is now.

Hmmm
Says my key is invalid.

Fortunately I found the email from Steam, which doesn't help you one bit on finding the game code, and am going to do the manual thing where they validate your game and send you a new code.

Hopefully.

Otherwise my preorder will be 3 dollars more expensive.

My Witcher 2 key was recognized but not the original. Both were purchased on Steam. I have submitted the manual form for the original, I'll report back on how it goes.

So one reason I like gog over steam; is gog has real support that not only responds in a reasonable amount of time they actually give you real (and correct) answers.

Btw - this is more of a question but why does one pre-order a game 9 months in advance ? I mean is there concern that they will run out of digital copies ?

I do it purely to support GOG plus there is no doubt I want the game day 1 so why not.
I haven't even looked to see if u get anything special for pre-ordering.

You get some of the goodies (music, wallpaper, avatars, etc.) in advance from preordering.

If we're talking international megacorp like EA, Ubisoft, Activision: Preordering is for suckers and only serves to give the megacorp a collective interest free loan.
If we're talking one of the last good guy, PC-focused game developers CD Projekt Red: I do it to support the developer. They're anti-DRM, they believe DLC and add-on content should be free, and they've never lied to me.

As for the psychology behind people preordering digital download games, I suppose its the psychological contentment of already owning the title. Some people also rationalize that if they're going to buy it later anyway, might as well do it now so they can check it off the to-do list. Who knows.

Now I remember why I don't by more from GOG. My card doesn't work on it.

Wait hold up. I just copied The Witcher's cd-key from steam and redeemed it to my GOG account. If I purchase The Witcher 3 from GOG, will I be able to redeem it onto Steam?

While I admire and respect CD Projekt Red for their anti DRM stance, I worry they could go out of business because of rampant piracy. I do not want the PC gaming industry to lose one of the few good guys.

No. they (gog) does not provide a key you can use on steam. this makes sense because the cdprojek and gog have the same parent company.

Well wouldn't it be a better deal to buy the witcher 3 from GMG for cheap, redeem it on steam and have the ability to redeem it on GOG?

It depends, the best price GMG could possibly offer it for is $59.99-25% or about $45 if CDPR allows them to discount the game that much. I have a feeling they won't allow that steep of a discount or it would take away buyers from GoG who own both witcher games and get a extra discount buying witcher 3 direct. If GoG will let you get the DRM-Free version with the steam key that would be the best way if you want to have it both on steam and DRM-Free. Personally I want it DRM-Free and I want to support GoG so I'll buy it direct for $48 since I own both Witcher games on GoG. IIRC they didn't let you get the GoG version at release with Witcher 2. They only let you redeem the steam keys for the GoG version after a year or two passed and because it was a promotion to bring in more users to GoG. There is no guarantee they will do that again.

I just got my CD key today for the original game. Their process works! I just pre-ordered #3 for 20% off.

Maybe but you could also wait 6 months afrter the release of the game and get it for $25. To be honest I usually end up waiting 6 months to play just to get the patches et all; but on the other hand I pre-ordered witcher 2 from gog (one of my very few pre-orders) and so far I've been very happy with both gog and cdprojek so I will probably pre-order witcher 3 but not 9 months in advance. This is in stark contrast to EA games; I think dragon age inquistion will be pretty decent but I won't preorder it and I won't buy it until it drops below $15; because (a) it is tied to origin (b) I really really hate their DLC model. Quite frankly I think that if EA or ubi soft were to kick the bucket they would happily let all the games tied to uplay and origin cease to be playable.

Welp, I preordered... got it through, finally.

I may bash on game companies a lot, because of their anti consumerist ways. But CDProjekt seems like a genuinely good company. So I like the idea of supporting them, so preordering this is not a problem for me, even if I was not drawn in by Witcher 1, and had problems adapting to Witcher 2.I think they'll make Witcher 3 easier to understand and control, while maintaining the feel of it.

IIRC, they're supposed to get more money if you order from GOG. So, this type of deal just seems even more awesome.
