I think taxpayers have every right to be pissed over this deal. Unfortunately, I don't think the state cares one bit. :(

“It’s a scam. It’s a rip-off. We shouldn’t pay it back,” said one. “It’s unconstitutional to sell bonds without the approval of the voters …. Now Wall Street is telling us we have to pay these bonds? No, we don’t,” said another.

Kingdoms of Amalur was a pretty good game in my opinion. How did 38 Studios screw up so badly?

Who the FK is the idiot that thought a wacko jock religious nut could run a software gaming company in the first place?

Well, just another example of government writing checks expecting us to cover them.
You may think you're free, but you're nothing more than a 9 digit number feeding them an endless stream of cash that is more than happy to bury your ass if you step out of line or protest.

I have so much hate for this entire thing I can't even speak about it IRL.

not a single person has faced charges on this.

no wonder RI is ranked high (or low depending on your view point) in least trusted, least happy, highest sucide rate, highest rates of alcoholism.

That's not exactly how a bond works... This wouldn't be punishing 38 Studios or anyone related to that fiasco. We REALLY need to start teaching finance in schools but a financially illiterate proletariat seems to be the preferred voter class for most politicians.

Exactly. The state has to pay the people who bought bonds. Whether the state gets some of that money back by suing those involved is up to the state, as they screwed up by backing the studio.

Reap what you sow, Rhode Island. Stop voting for politicians you know that are going to back this shit up. "They have a D next to their name, I'm going to vote for them."

In a similar case, Austin, TX residents are in shock because after all the bullshit they'ved voted in, they're angry they have to pay the taxes to fund their bullshit.

That's not at all similar. In Rhode Island you've got people complaining about having to pay back a bad government loan made to a foresee-ably mismanaged celebrity-driven private enterprise. In Austin you have people complaining they have to pay more property taxes because their property values went up.

Uhh which had to happen because they voted in all those shit that requires raising property taxes. I never heard of a levy that didn't require raising your property tax. Both groups of people are responsible for the crap they vote for.
You also didn't read the article close enough. "I have voted for every park, every library, all the school improvements, for light rail, for anything that will make this city better." That shit has consequences no differently than your local politician. We've gotten worse (cough Obama cough).
