LG3 photos rumor

Not super impressed with the G3 now. It is more in line with the M8 and S5 hardware wise, not the super phone from the future everyone was hoping for. But could be worse than those other flagship phones, due to the high res 1440p display, what kind of battery drain will that be ? I am surprised the G3 didn't get the awesome 805 Processor, which I thought is supposed to be specifically designed to handle 1440p display resolutions.

I think the next hot phone is the HTC One M8 Prime;

- Snapdragon 805
- 3GB RAM
- 5.5" 1440p screen
- Android 4.4.3
- Sense 6.5
- 18mp camera

The new G3 just seems more of the same, with the exact same hardware as the S5 and M8, just a high resolution version.

if you are going into 5.5inch + can't forget about note 4 since m8 prime is due september and so is note 4

Other than the SoC, which they couldn't include because the G3 was built and designed much earlier, I don't see how it is lacking. For me the design with minimal bezels is much more important than a spec bump in hardware or camera pixels.

Good point. The rumored dates for the One M8 Prime have been July / August release, with the Note 4 a Sept / Oct release. And the Note 4 is in a different class all by itself, it's a true phablet mini computer, I think the Note 4 will have a 5.9" screen.

But phones at 5.5" screen size are starting becoming the new Android norm for the regular typical phone size.

The 805 has been long talked about for awhile now, as being a major upgrade for smartphone processor tech. Also 3GB RAM on the M8 Prime will help too. And a massive sized battery, rumored to be around 3,300mAh.

G3 has the 801 / M8 Prime has the 805
G3 has 2GB RAM / M8 Prime has 3GB RAM
G3 has 3,000mAh battery / M8 Primed rumored larger battery

I'll take the M8 Prime over the G3

Note may not be in a separate class anymore. Now the only thing that makes it special is the stylus. But I think a lot of Note users don't use the stylus or the special software for it.

Unless Samsung shrinks their bezels (they went backward with the S5) I don't see how the Note 4 will be competitive unless you just want a bigger screen.

G3 also has a 3GB version. And I'd expect a phone released later to have better specs, but the M8 Prime is also going to be a much bigger device.

We'll see how it plays out but I expect the G3 to be very well regarded just like the G2 was. It's a very well designed phone.

Like most, I'm a little disappointed that this phone didn't come with the 805 as rumored, but the more I read about it, other than the GPU and gaming, the 805 isn't a huge leap at all over the 801. I really don't do hardcore gaming on my phone. That's what my PC and PS4 are for. Most of the games I play are not GPU intensive. For 99% of your daily tasks you probably would not notice a difference.

The one thing people should compliment LG is the design and use of space. 76% of the front of the phone is screen. Like many people, I love the advantages of a huge beautiful screen however I don't necessarily like holding an enormous phone. (I have small hands for a dude so I do have to sacrifice usability when we enter the 5.5 inch plus range).

This photo illustrates a nice comparison seeing the phone next to an HTC M8

Other than being a little wider that the M8, the phones have have a very similar footprints. However flip these bad boys around and the extra 1/2 inch is a huge difference as far as screen real estate.

Give credit where it's due. I wish more manufacturers would go this route.

And Zorachus, I'm pretty sure most leaks point to the Note 4 staying at 5.7 inches and not increasing screen size this year.

I agree, it's cool how LG could fit a 5.5" screen inside a phone, where most competitors can only do a 5" to 5.2" only in the same footprint.

It makes the phone look very futuristic and extra cool with it being 76% screen, and only like 24% bezel.

Makes the iPhone 6 leaks look so outdated with that HUGE bezel on the top and bottom. At least the One M8 has the boom sound speakers to blame for the big bezels.

2560x1600 is not only a waste but a detriment as it seems to cause the phone to hit thermal throttling sooner. Content with 1080/1200p and will be on the side line until next significant jump to 14 or 20nm Snapdragon preferably 810.

So the G3 is smaller than the M8 (in length which is more noticeable than width) yet has a bigger screen. I know its mostly due to HTC's front facing speakers but its impressive.

Because it isn't, its still the S800 at the root of it all. They did give the GPU its own 2 lane dedicated highway to the memory though and increased supported memory speeds. If QHD screens weren't in the queue I doubt the 805 would exist honestly. I'm very interested to see how the "old" Adreno 330 handles the new QHD screen, this will be cool for LG if its unnoticeable.

808/810 are the true next generation SoC's from Qualcomm.

I'm just awaiting Anandtech's review. Very curious about the battery life with that big screen and all.

Funny how when most tech sites/blog talk about LG's UI, they're also shaming Samsung's TouchWiz at the same time. Funny, but not unexpected.

What's funny? I've owned both Samsung and LG phones, TouchWiz is not as bad as people claim but definitely has more lag than Optimus.

I find it funny some posters deem it necessary to bring it up in a thread about LG.

What I don't get is the G2 had a lot of shaming going on in the UI department, and I was always a huge fan of AOSP, but I actually love the UI on my G2 and a lot of the features it has built into it.

:(

As long as the battery is good I will get this phone...Could care less about the 805 chip. I got my daughter the G2 not long ago and like it a lot. The G3 will be perfect.

I've played with the G2 fairly extensively and yeah, I agree that the criticism of the UI is a little overboard. There's a lot of fun and useful things there. The only think I truly hated was the G2's overwrought and cluttered mess of a pull down notification tab. God that thing is ugly. I'm glad they cleaned it up on the G3.

Still waiting to read some reviews on the battery life and the true consequences of that QHD screen.

Also it's really premature to put this phone against the S5 Prime or M8 Prime. Those phones are little more than myth and legend at this point. If this past year has taught me anything, it's that supposed "leaks" are overly ambitious and rarely accurate.

What do you guys think the difference in price will be between the 16gb 2gb Ram model and the 32gb 3gb ram model of the G3? It'd be awesome if it was only a $50 price difference but my gut tells me it will be at least a $100 bucks.

That kind of delta is more likely to be $100 in the US. I'd say it'll be worth it if you either plan to keep the phone for a long time or would have bought at least a 16GB SD card anyway (reducing the difference to less than the upgrade price). Otherwise, it's a tougher call... it's not like the G2 struggles with 2GB of RAM.

I wonder if LG has finally, finally, finally realized that their piece of shit continual autofocus sucks big time ass, and disabled it. I had the optimus G, and now the G2, and video recording is pretty much worthless because of their shitty continual auto-focus (and no option to disable).

Just looked at phone arena size compare and its not really that much smaller than the optimus g pro, might've been basically the same size if it wasn't for the change from capacitive to on screen buttons, probably goes to show how compact their design was even before the g2.

Why is there so little excitement over this phone? All the reviews I've read make it sound like a gamechanger. Well, as much as a gamechanger as you can get in 2014 and smartphone stagnation.

because most here are on either the Note 3, G2 or M8 is why I'm guessing. Theres little reason to upgrade to this phone.

I picked up the M8, and couldn't be happier. Yeah the G3 is sweet too, but I'm good with this One :)

Maybe the HTC Nexus-Six for $300 would get me to switch this October.

I agree that out of the box it's a bit much up there, but, its all customizable and you can turn it off.

PC advisor review of LG G3

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/mobile-phone/3521687/lg-g3-review/

Engadget calls it LG's best phone yet and PC advisor calls it the best phone of 2014. So far all the reviews have been very good to outstanding. Only caveat is that these reviews are using the Korean model. Mileage may vary slightly (here's looking at you battery life) once we get some carrier models.

Hey I'm excited about this phone. I'm still rocking a Note 2 and I've been anxiously awaiting a phone that makes me want to upgrade. I looked long and hard at both the S5 and M8 but neither one quite hit all of my hot bottoms (although I did buy my girlfriend an S5 to upgrade her ancient Iphone 4 which was on its last legs).

I'm guessing this phone will be released here around the begining of July. I'm about 95% sure I'll be picking up a 32gb 3gb ram model around release day. The 5% that's not sure? Well I'm giving HTC or Samsung the next 30 days to announce their unicorn tears super duper sexy prime model. If either one does so and brings it to market within the next 3-4 months then I'll hold off. But right now I have little faith in any announcement coming out shortly. So it looks like LG will be getting my money this time around. I really like the idea of keeping the Note 2 screen size while upgrading to a noticeably smaller phone.

I'll be paying full price out of pocket for this phone. I have an upgrade available on Verizon this December. Who knows, if the Note 4 really wows me, I may only end up keeping the G3 for 5 months or so.

A phone worth waiting for

I honestly don't see a point of keep increasing PPI, it's a stupid move with so little benefit unless you practically stick your eye with magnifier onto the screen.

Anything above 300+ PPI is practically little to no gain.

Argh, so angry with myself that I didn't wait. I knew it was coming, had a pretty good sense that it was going to be awesome, but my previous phone died on me last week (needed a new motherboard, it turned out) and since I was eligible for a new 2 year plan I went out and got an S5 instead.

Well, ATT does replace any new phones should you want to trade it back in for free if its returned within 2 weeks.

You do pay something, I don't remember what it was but it was marginal at best.

Sadly, not on ATT though. Nor am I on any other US carrier since I live on the other side of the world.. I miss the awesome return / refund policies of the good ol US of A.

Here's to wishing LG market the heck out of this phone.

As great as this G3 is, sadly the truth is, will be forgotten in a few short months, after phones like the Note 4 and Nexus-Six are released in 3 to 4 months, and possible 'Prime' versions of the S5 and M8. And LG is just not a big name phone brand to the public, compared to Apple and Samsung, and even HTC a little. So the G3 may be the hot new awesome phone to us a tech geeks today, come a few months from now, the public won't even really know about it.

But good for us, I see the G3 being on bargain sale this Fall. Even brand new last year, the G2 was much cheaper off contract compared to flagships from Samsung, Apple, and HTC. I think the G2 was like $549 brand new a year ago, while the others were like $650 / $700.

And on 2yr contracts, the carriers were almost giving away the G2 like just two months after release. I see the same for the G3, a great phone for the price if you just wait it out a couple months.

Wow, looks nice. I like the smaller bezels and the fact they added a removeable battery and microSD card slot. Those were my only gripes with prior LG models. I thought they were good looking devices, but the lack of those features were deal killers.

It'd be nice to see LG get the Nexus again, then we can see it sell for cheap.
