34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

What game is this??????

Hahaha glad to see your still enjoying my ol glossy.... I do miss it :)
The Qnix is definantly the go to gaming / light work productivity display at the moment and I do not think the Rog Swift is gonna be able to come anywhere close to its picture / color quality....however, the 34UM95 is easier on my eyes for longer work productivity stretches due to its "No Flicker" features. They both serve different, awesome purposes.

The Qnix makes me feel invincible in games. The "hack" comments are starting to come out.
As for the UM95, when I see a price drop I'm in for one. It will be solely for single player games and my design workflow.
MP games will be on the Qnix.

How do you know what monitor calibrators are compatible with this?
Is the i1 Display 2 compatible?

Thanks

I went out and bought the i1 Display Pro and it did a wonderful job of calibrating this display. Made quite a difference. Didn't need to bother with X-Rite's software either, the LG True Color app recognized everything as soon as I plugged it in. Like robbiekhan mentioned earlier, the ColorMunki is another good option, though has more software limitations. I also wanted to use it to calibrate my TV so that's why I went for the Pro.

Spyder's belong in the garbage, they are not as accurate as similarly priced x-rite meters and can't read contrast/black levels properly either.

Is the i1 Display 2 compatible?

No, it loses accuracy over time and is even less accurate with LED back-lit monitors. Buy an x-rite color munkie or i1 display pro.

Ok thanks for all the replies about the calibrators. Guess I'll be shelling out another couple hundo. Are there any sub $100 ones that are any good?

The 34UM95 is a 1,000$ monitor, if you can't afford to spend an extra 170$ (Amazon) on a colormunkie to use it properly (hardware calibration), then maybe it is not the right monitor for you.

No point any buying an inaccurate, sub 100$ meters, better off borrowing someones ICC profile.

Just bought a 34UM95 from the egg, any thoughts on a good, inexpensive monitor arm (that's in stock somewhere)? I looked at the Ergotron MX which seems to be the defacto standard but it's OoS everywhere.

ha... whether it's a $1000 monitor or not an extra $200 is an extra $200. Would you buy the monitor from ebay for $1200? No, you would buy it from amazon for $1000 to save $200. Also I asked if there was a "good" one for sub $100. A simple no would suffice. Just because I'm trying to save a hundred doesn't mean the monitor isn't for me. But I appreciate your opinion :)

Also there is a monitor arm to consider buying which would be another $100-$150... my bad for not being foolish with my money "if" I don't have to

I'm still waiting on my monitor to ship, but I have received and used the X-Rite i1 Display Pro on all my other screens with good results. It's not cheap at $199AR at Amazon, but it has the widest compatibility with 3rd party software of the "affordable" devices.

Also, this may not matter to you, but the PRAD review I read mentioned that LG's software on OSX only worked with the i1 Display Pro. For Windows, the software is more flexible and a ColorMunki would be fine.

ok thanks, I'll look into those

Anyone get Watch Dogs yet? That supports 21:9 displays, but the FOV isn't quite right. I was wondering if they fooled around with the settings for it yet.

+1.00 was perfect for me

For some reason it still doesn't look right on my SLI Titan setup. It's way too zoomed in even with Flawless Widescreen. The HUD is all screwed up too.

I should get results like that with Flawlesswidescreen, but I'm not. Perhaps I need to adjust my configuration?

Nevermind, I got it working. I had to fool around with the settings a bit. The FOV is still terrible though. Hard to believe they shipped the game like that.

Can anyone who has this monitor comment on running Diablo III using flawless widescreen's tool? The combo doesn't seem to be working for me..

Is crossfire/sli pretty much required for gaming on this monitor? I have a single 290 and just picked one up (will be here Thursday) but I'm wondering if the r9 will be enough. I'd rather not have to drop another $400 if I don't need to.

diablo 3 does not officially support 21:9. however, you can run it just by selecting "windowed fullscreen" in the graphics options. i've been running D3 in 2560x1080 for a year now and don't even need flawlesswidscreen for that.

Depends on what you play, for some games it is if you want to max everything out and need 60 FPS - i.e. Watch_Dogs, BF4, Crysis 3.

I'd be ok with lowering a couple things but a smooth 60 is a must for something like Wolfenstein.

So quick question.... My buddy gave me an X-rite Colormunkie Smile to calibrate the UM95 with and for some reason the LG softward doesnt allow me to select a calibrator. the option is just greyed out. Everything seems installed coerrectly and the crappy Xrite software generates a profile.

Any thoughts??

I agree on the $200 comment. Stupid.

As for the monitor arm, ergotrons are worth the money. Find a used one on eBay or Craigslist!

Let me know if you get this working and what your thoughts are on D3 at this resolution. It's the primary reason I even consider this monitor as it sounds like it would be a blast.

It works with flawless widescreen. Start FWS , load the plugin minimize it. Make sure D3 is set to full screen and the highest res you can pick. then Alt tab out of D3 one or twice.... when you go back in it will be set for 21:9 and flawless...

And seriously, if you use FWS and dont donate you should be beaten. This dude has single handled corrected the laziness of muti million dollar devs.

I plan to use Flawless widescreen (flawlesswidescreen.org) on the games that don't do 21:9 native, and I plan to donate

noone?

im not using the cable of the monitor because i have a gtx 690 which only has minidisplayport 1.2, so i bought one. maybe the cable is shit?

I believe that issue is present on every one of these monitors according to all the posts and reviews I've read. It doesn't seem to make a difference, so I believe the suggestion is to leave it disabled.

I think that someone was going to test it with a Quadro or FirePro (cards that actually support 10-bit color; the GTX series does not), but no idea if it ever happened.

Hi everyone !
I've been following this thread for a while, and was wondering if any of those lucky ones who have grabbed a UM95 have tried gaming in a non-native resolution e.g. 2560*1080. If so, is the upscaling OK ? I mean, does the image look blurry ?
Thanks for the information ;)

I don't believe that the LG software supports the Smile. You either need the regular ColorMunki or the Display Pro (or a Sypder Pro/Elite).

just cancelled my order from b&h and went to tiger direct for the refurbished model and got it shipped for $827.22. I'm assuming it was refurbished from someone returning it because of the IPS glow or backlight bleed. hopefully that is fixed and this monitor is good to go.

I wonder how many monitors and TV's bleed and edge lighting is exacerbated by torqued/bent/imperfect plastic monitor frame/housings. Especially on larger ones.

Here are two pics of my 34UM95....as you can see I have ZERO BLB! I am running Cinema with brightness set to 10 and everything looks fantastico

Yeah only the Quadro nVidia cards support 10-bit colour or above so best bet really is to leave off. Explains why nobody can see the difference with it on as well since nobody has a Quadro outside of professional authoring environments (rendering, editing etc).

I'm unlikely to donate as it's entirely this guys fault I "need" a 21:9 monitor. :)
Looking really promising.
