Watch Dogs

It's not fun at all when the game doesn't look well enough to justify the performance issues.

The game doesn't really look great, at least to me. I don't care usually, but when my performance sucks this much there's no reason for me to struggle with $800 worth of GPUs.

Now, If I'm lucky I have to wait months for a game I paid for to actually run smooth, assuming they even do something about this.

It runs smooth on my rig at Ultra Settings @ 1080p. Are you using the new beta drivers?

Considering how much he "learnt", just sounds like a kid with delusions.

I agree although frankly he voiced some complaints that I agree with as well.

I'm enjoying this game but I think we all know that it was originally set to be something more than it is now. That's a given starting with the now infamous E3 2012 trailer on through.

too much focus on the graphics downgrade

I'm more concerned with how much they dumbed down the gameplay...game seemed more innovative and original when it was first announced

Any one know if there is a memory leak in watchdogs. if i play for a few hours it gets progressively more laggy. but if i close WD and open it again it goes away for a few hours.

also that dof issue i was having was a bug since i can't get it happen again.

I felt that was the case with the game but it was hard to tell. I dont play a game for too long though so I may not the right person to confirm this.

I have a similar issue with the keyboard getting stuck in a direction. A quick tap of the key seems to fix it. I think it is a bug. I've never had any issues with the keyboard getting stuck and windows isn't throwing up any red flags.

Every time that I kill someone with a pistol, I run the risk of the keyboard getting stuck in a direction. I likewise don't have an issue with other games. Makes the gang missions very hard when you kill one person and then your character runs out into the open on a suicide mission.

The game we were all hoping for is not the game we have. :( I still find aspects of it enjoyable, but most of the side missions don't have much incentive to pursue. The collectibles, much like what's in inFamous, have captured my attention. I can't say much about the main story missions, so I'm hoping to gain some satisfaction.

It's like it has flashes of fun, then you notice something else is missing from the game. Getting invaded is more annoying than fun as you're on a mission that you really wanted to do, and now you're stuck hunting some guy down. Well at least that's how I feel now. Maybe I'll get burned out of chasing criminals on foot and appreciate it more later on. Chasing criminals on foot is the only thing that doesn't stutter.

learnt is how the british spell learned...

as for the game, i've put a few hours into it now and it just constantly feels like shit is missing or broken. it's impossible to change weapons quickly. there's no point in using anything other than the silenced 1911. why are there no weapon upgrades you can buy? why do i never get the cops called on me when i pull my fucking gun out in a store and rob the register or when i hit and kill four people with my car? why does family man aiden pearce have no issue with killing tens or hundreds of people while robbing innocent citizens on the street? why can enemies have their guns out and walk out into public with no repercussions? the ai is fucking retarded. the driving physics are horrible. what did they do with the car models? it's like they had some high quality ones and then at the last second realized it made the game unplayable on 360/ps3 and made new ones in five minutes. they look like shit and there's only like 8 of them. the quality of the environment varies so much it's like "yeah this looks pretty good" one moment and then "is this a ps2 game?" the next. invisible fucking walls at the edge of the map? really? the best thing this game has to offer is the water simulation...

e: oh yeah, the interior environments in this game are very good looking, which is weird to me because every other open world game has ugly interior and good looking exterior. the obviously-hand-made areas are also good looking, but sadly it's offputting when you notice how terrible everything else looks.

I hate hunting down criminals & while I'm trying to catch them before they commit a crime, they spot me. Ubisoft needs to patch this so much, that it shouldn't look like a damn alpha build from hell.

The stuff about Ubi Montreal is odd to hear...they've done so many good games in the past, including Far Cry 3 and all of the Splinter Cell games (and Raven Shield back in the day). Maybe recently they changed staff or something and started sucking?

I take it you guys are not Dark Souls fans...the invasion aspect sounds like the most fun in my opinion...of course they're going to invade you when you least want them to...that's what 'invaders' do...if they only invaded you on your terms then it would be kinda dumb

I haven't done any hunting of invaders or anything of the sort yet... just investigating possible crimes at the moment.

I tried to play Dark Souls but it just didn't click for me. The control mechanics really ticked me off.

it only works if the gameplay is fun to begin with ;)

I turned invasions off and i have still had 2 invasions, which is weird. though they were fun.

Haha i spotted one the was slouched down in a car. so i walked past the car like i didn't see him and then spun around and dumped a saiga mag in to him, was so satisfying. :D

It would appear so, but I don't get much joy from the whole process. :(
It would be better if you could interrupt crimes and get the same bonuses, yeah. But I think the system is designed to encourage you to use stealth tactics to get close to the target and to make sure you're able to observe the actual crime sequence.

The tougher part is figuring out which direction the perp is coming from. That's where I get jacked over for even when I'm using stealth.

Hahaha i keep. hitting civilians by mistake at about 20mph and they die instantly. i just his some poor guy while going max speed in a sports car. the guy flew a 100 or so feet and hit a building then got up and walked away.

I've put my hands on the game for a few hours now, and honestly I am not super impressed.

-Graphically it looks decent, but not nearly enough to warrant the terrible performance, even with settings turned down. Hitching while driving is massive regardless of texture setting, and at night the performance gets even worse (probably because it looks marginally better)

-The augmented reality side missions are a joke for the most part...Coin Run? Wtf?

-The hacking aspect basically boils down to "Press Q a bunch". The only interesting part so far was when I had to do some sort of mini-game by rotating pipes, but even that was easy (so far, anyway). Hacking random people for money/phone conversations/etc. is alright, but it just makes it so you are basically always scanning and not really paying attention to anything else.

-The "stealth" aspect of the game works alright, and given how easily you die from gunfire (more on that later) it makes sense to use sometimes. However, it is pretty shallow overall and the game really does seem to focus a lot more on gun combat.

-As mentioned by several people, vehicle physics are completely ridiculous...other than speed (which just feels like you are sliding around on ice if you get going too fast) there seems to be no real difference between vehicles, whether it's a high-end sports car or a big-ass truck. Handling feels more or less the same regardless.

One of the most frustrating gaming experiences in recent memory for me was trying to do a Convoy mission in this game. For those who haven't played it, the concept is to intercept a convoy of about 5-6 vehicles, each with at least one heavily-armed guy, and "take down" (NOT KILL) two seemingly randomly chosen of these guys. Sounds straightforward, but it took me about 20+ attempts to finally beat it, for a number of reasons which boil down to poor design IMO.

First off, you can try to set up a trap for them (for instance, their route took them down this alleyway where there were blockers at either end and a couple of explosive grates on the road in between), but more often than not if you alter ANYTHING in the environment before they actually get on top of that environmental item, they will magically know that something is wrong and will alter course, or worse yet, instantly become aware of your presence and attack you.

In this mission, I tried closing off the end blocker and then waited at the other end to try and trap them in the alley with the other blocker when they came inside. Thought this was pretty clever...NOPE. Before they even reached the alley (before they even had line of sight on the blocker at the far end, in fact), they freaked out, the game said they were "alerted" and they instantly jumped out of their cars and started hunting me, having never seen where I was in the first place. Complete nonsense.

After that I decided, screw that plan, I'll just wait until one of the lead cars (not the one with the guy I had to NOT kill, mind you) was over an explosive grate and then blow it, and then close the blocker so the other vehicle(s) couldn't get through. This worked okay, except many of the vehicles immediately reversed out of the alley and went around the block to try and kill me. Which is fine...smart, actually, except again I was completely out of sight of the enemy, yet they knew INSTANTLY where I was when I blew the first car.

Another major problem with this mission is how quickly you die. The AI I've found to be actually quite good...they will move around a lot, take cover on random cars in the street, and try to flank you. However, the two guys you are supposed to take down have fucking shotguns. This means that in order to get close enough for a takedown you are required to run face-first into gunfire and hope that you can hit them before you die. This, of course, with other guys shooting at you and trying to flank you.

Unless I am missing something big here, there is no way to take down these guys without the baton at close range. I've tried shooting them in the leg...does a bit of damage but doesn't incapacitate them, or if you're not careful it kills them and you instantly fail the mission. If you try to tap them with a car...usually they die and you instantly fail the mission. So basically, after more than a dozen runs of trying to get just the perfect circumstance of "trap most of the cars, kill all of the guys other than the two targets, and then take down each guy one at a time so the other one isn't blasting me in the face while I take the other guy down" (you can be killed during the 2-3 second takedown animation, by the way).

Oh, and most of the time a couple of the dudes will call in reinforcements, so that's another level of shit you have to deal with.

Eventually the stars aligned and I was able to finish it, but not without a lot of frustrating bullshit and restarting the mission over and over (because, of course, there are no manual saves so you have to do the whole thing over again every time you fail).

A lot of design choices could have eliminated this. Maybe allow for enemies to be disarmed somehow. Maybe not have the two targets you can't kill have shotguns. Maybe allow the guys to be shot in the leg and have that actually count as a takedown. Anything but this.

It's not like I'm playing on uber hard difficulty, either...this is on normal.

Overall, this game feels like a GTA clone through and through, and does some things right but a lot of things wrong. I could really only recommend it if you are a big fan of GTA-like games, but otherwise I'd have to say skip it at this point.

Ya i gave up on that stupid take down mission just wasn't worth my time. but for missions like that i suggest getting an armored car and just run all of the baddies over and then take down the guys you been to.

If you don't feel like hacking people endlessly for money just upgrade your money hacking skill as much as you can. i did that and now i get 1500-15000 of every person i hack so now i don't have to constantly search for people .

I spent about 4 hours just walking in downtown Chicago hacking people, listening to convos, admiring the dynamic events, etc.
I think that's what Ubisoft intended. For some people they might just see it as a 'cash grind'.

The convoy missions are easily the most ridiculous in the game. Ubi Montreal seems to confuse frustration with challenge.

There's a lot of emphasis on frustration as challenge in this game. Some really awful, brainless design in that respect.

Ya i thought it was interesting for the first hour or 2. but it gets old after a while.

Yeah...Also, I have noticed some weird shit where some of the conversations seem like they are coming from the opposite gender of the actual person. Like some dude was talking about getting a tramp stamp...I mean, I guess it's possible, but highly unlikely.

I assume that's just the procedurally-generated citizen stuff fucking up a bit.

One thing that seems like a missed opportunity is when you scan people and it says "Porn Addict" or whatever, 99.9% of the time that information is useless. It would be nice if maybe some of the time you could get a random mission based on that info, like if some dude is a registered sex offender maybe you have to stop him from raping someone...something like that. Otherwise it just feels like the game is just telling you that everyone sucks for the most part.

Those are my most least favorite missions. They aren't frustrating at all

1. Get fast car
2. Full speed head on collision with the car you need to take down
3. Run over survivor
4. Escape the chase team

It's so stupidly simple and boring

Have you actually played a Convoy mission? That's not how they work at all. Read my long rant above for details. :p

TL;DR is that there are multiple armed targets who you can't actually kill, but can only take down once they jump out of the car and start shooting at you.

Well your both right. there are the easy missions that you just have to kill every one. and there are the god awful missions where you have to beat up the targets.

this is exactly what I do. I have done 2 convoy missions and both times i just ram the car and run the guy over that im supposed to take down. Then you just gotta escape. It is as easy as it sounds
