Watch Dogs

Out of interest, who opted for a controller over kb+m? For those that used the gamepad for the Assassin's Creed series, did you do the same for Watch Dogs? I used the keyboard this morning, but mouse control feels like there is some level of acceleration and the normal running controls feel similar to Assassin's Creed (which I used a gamepad for, since it felt much more intuitive).

I'm playing with a 360 controller & it feels a lot like AC gameplay. That's usually the way I play third person perspective games (not games like DXHR though).

Not gonna lie, after watching this video, thank God this game was delayed enough that I just sold my PS4 at launch. This game was the only reason I pre ordered ps4 and it looks like I dodged a bullet...

That's the only game you were aiming to play the PS4 with? That seems very shortsighted. :( Exclusives are what I aim for when I buy a console.

So, anybody running it on sub-minimum hardware? I've been running it on a E8500 (3.2GHz dual core) with 4GB RAM, 1GB 650 Ti. Settings generally set to Medium, but Low for shadows and High for water/reflections. 1680x1050, no AA, no vsync.

For the most part it's been running acceptably, about on par with Sleeping Dogs or AC4 except for this horrible stuttering / hitching up. It's basically impossible to play when things are loading quickly (driving quickly, pulling out phone in crowded areas), but other than that, it's acceptable... almost just fine. Makes me question the official requirements when people with hugely superior hardware are seeing the same troubles.

It used to hitch up pretty regularly, once every couple of minutes (or more), but I managed to get that down to plain old stuttery driving. Just wondering what my best chance to improve performance is.... another 4GB of RAM, or should I swap this E8500 for my Q6600 (old, I know) and try to OC it to ~3.2GHz - 3.4GHz?

The video made me laugh. I originally pre-ordered the PS4 just for this game at launch, I ended up cancelling both once Watch Dogs was delayed but later bought a PS4 anyway.

This game seems like it's something in-between Saints Row and GTA 4/5 as far as realism. Especially with the "Digital Trips" and other mini-games/missions. As long as the game is fun, I'm down.

Dual 6950 at 6970 specs for 4064 megs of VRAM according to MSI AB.

Game settings: Temporal AA (MSAA 2X crashes it even faster) and everything set to high.

My VRAM goes to 4 gigs used immediately, and I cannot play for more than 15-20 minutes without a display driver crash or windows telling me to turn off aero for better windows performance....and then a display driver crash soon after that. It stutters and glitches with temporal on as well (weird rings around my character. Plus TSAA looks like shit (blackish outlines around everything.)

Daytime is washed out unless you darken it, then nights are pitch black.

This game...was never meant to be played on PC. Fail Ubi, Fail.

I went full dyslexic. I am running it with SMAA and or temporal and still getting maxed out VRAM on high settings and subsequent CTDs. Temporal causes the rings/weird lights. MSAA 2x looks the best but stutters and hitches like Michael J Fox holding a shake-weight. All on 14.6 beta.

I played last night for a couple hours, I enjoyed everything about the gameplay so far. The driving is a bit stiff at first but I seemed to get a better feel for it as I played around. I float between 35 - 45 FPS on Ultra Settings with my rig. I am also getting this weird blurry effect at times, at first I thought it was some kind of rain drop effect but then if I move around I notice the same blurry effect is "stuck" in a pattern on the screen for a while before it resets. Is anybody else having this problem? I tried v-sync on and off and it didn't seem to have any effect, I also adjusted the graphics to different levels and still got it. I have the latest Catalyst drivers and I even tried no Overclock on my video card but I kept encountering it.

Also I noticed at times this game is sucking up a whopping 5.5 GB Memory when I monitor things with MSI Afterburner and all 4 cores on my i5 are 80% utilized. That's the most I have ever seen a game consume, it seems this game will definitely push a current gen rigs limits.

Whoa acidentaly turned on depth of field. holy shit is that the worst dof i have ever seen. it looks like some one sprayed water on the screen randomly and then tried to wipe it off with a peice of paper.

Ahhh shit that's probably what I am experiencing, I will have to try and turn that off after work and see if my blurry issue goes away.

I'll try this experiment. 9/10 times I like some DOF but we'll see.

What an awful day.. I woke up.. Ready to play some WD and saw my CPU sitting idle at 80c.. WHOA... 0% load etc..... SOB...

Long story short.. Corsair H60 pump took a poop. Had to drive 45 minutes to a MicroCenter and picked up an CoolerMaster N520... Installed.. Works great.. Holds temps better than the H60.. Can't complain. The H60 was one of the first models released.. Got a few years out of her or so.

And this game has ran smoothly for me with an r9 290 at stock clocks.

Assuming those 6950's are 2gb cards in crossfire (ie 4gb combined), you still only have access to 2gb of vram.

I assumed as much. Regardless. Lowest AA setting and only high settings should run with 2GB VRAM. Still getting CTD/display driver stopped working crashes within 20 minutes and memory usage is 4GB if that is accurate in afterburner. Maybe it reads off shared texture memory or something.

I guess I am having trouble believing this. 290 Tri-X in crossfire, 1440p, Ultra with AA off and the game is 20-50fps. That's with the cards at 1000/1500 clocks.

Can either of you post a pic? I'm trying to find a screenshot of this because I think it was brought up in one of the NeoGAF threads. I don't think it's normal, probably a bug or something.

Are you forcing AA or AF or anything?

Funny part is I took a screen shot and even recorded some video but it doesn't show up in the pics or the video. I am going to try and disable the DoF after I get home from work as somebody just posted that when they turned it on it they got a weird blur effect too.

I am running it at the pre configured high setting. not forcing any aa or af

At work so i can't get a screen shot

So finally got in game, holy shit is the mouse acceleration bad!

How do you turn this off? I've read some forums and things and followed the steps but it's still on for me.

They all say to edit the "sensitivity" from 1 to 0, but there is NO just "sensitivity" in my gamerprofile file.

The only thing close to that is one that says "Gameprofile = sensitivity 0.9" or I have two others called "Mouselook sensitivity x = 50" and "mouselook sensitivity y = 50"

Which one do I change?

* 1. Exit the game.
* 2. Go to C:\Users\\<your username>\Documents\My Games\Watch_Dogs\\<some odd number>
* 3. There should be a file named "GamerProfile.xml". Open it in a text editor of your choice.
* 4. Look for the following settings and change their values respectively:
* 5. Set "Sensitivity=" to 1.
* 6. Set "UseMouseSmooth=" to 0.
* 7. Set "Smoothness=" to 0.
* 8. Save and Close the file. Your ingame cursor should now move without accelaration

If its really that easy, then why can't they add an acceleration option in-game?

THANK YOU. I was wondering what the hell was going on there.

Because that would make sense, and would also be user-friendly at the same time! Pfft!

Seriously though, who EVER wants mouse acceleration for ANYTHING?!?! I've never understood the existence of it anywhere.

I'm running a single card. Many are having issues running this game with crossfire enabled.

I just switched to a single card and am not getting the display driver crashes anymore. PC is also reporting memory usage correctly. F.U. to Ubi and AMD for shit xfire support.

YESSSSSssssssssssss thank you!

Also your name is excellent. If that isn't the name of a band already, it should be.

Totally a disgrace! This isn't a fucking MMO, it's a single player game for fucks sake!

I have to feel lucky every time I get in. Even when I do their servers crap half the time. Cloud synch hasn't worked yet.

Basically I feel lucky when I can play.

If you like generic, open-world GTA clones then you'll probably like this just fine.
It's not going to win any awards for creativity, though.

So many glaring flaws that just ruin the atmosphere.

For instance..

Sarcasm?

I'm just curious because after watching the cut scenes and reading about the story it does just look like a reskinned assassins creed/GTA. I held off on getting it because neither of those games interest me.
