NCASE M1: a crowdfunded Mini-ITX case (updates in first post)

Some feedback I got from a couple non-SFF-enthusiast friends: some random items for scale would make it easier to tell the size of the case at first glance.
Hm... well I could put up the infamous Coke can pic :p

I would like to order both a silver and black case together to save on shipping. Could you make this possible?
Unfortunately there's no savings shipping two together. There's also a limitation with Paypal's encrypted payment system that only allows one item at a time.

Apparently the order page isn't working in IE. Sorry about that. I'll see if I can fix it.

Edit: fixed thanks to WiSK :)

EDIT: Pictures of the slightly longer SFX psu that will fit a 120mm fan.
Akiba PC reported that the 600w version of this new psu will be released in June, while the 500w version will be released in July.

The modular cable plugs would fit over a long GPU right? Should be comparable to a 140mm non modular one.

I guess Tony from Silverstone watched the comments on this thread about a slightly longer SFX psu that would fit a 120mm fan.

Yes, it's likely that this PSU was developed after Wahaha360 and Necere contacted several PSU OEMs about custom development of a long SFX. High Power seemed to be the only manufacturer to take it seriously and showed that unit at CES2013. Minimum order was 1000 units; outside the scope for NCase to invest. But Silverstone picked it up and it might indeed be thanks to the discussion here on [H].

Incidentally, the thread you link quotes from an earlier thread here, where Tony himself responded.

Yep, your right, I guess I just went a bit crazy when I saw the pictures and the release date estimate and I didn't pay attention to the rest of the text .

In terms of shipping, what is the equivalent to what we had for the V1? TW Surface? This will be to Canada in particular.

No option for extra top this time around?
Nope. There wasn't a lot of sense in doing that to begin with, TBH. Anyway, we'll probably offer panels separately at some point.

Yes, TW Surface was what most countries got. A lucky few had air shipping and got theirs a lot sooner.

Sad to see that you removed that option for new customers - now we have to order at least two times (that doubles international shipping  ), one for the M1 and possibly for additional parts from you guys.
But no time to whine about it (right now), just placed an order *happy* finally - thank you so much !! from Germany ;) keep up the good work

Any chance we could get the panels in Silver, for those of us who got the case in black? I mean: panels only, not the rest of the case...

that would be awesome !!

'TW Surface?' - Yep, appears so. :( $27 U.S.

I wouldn't be able to order for at least a week so maybe they'll be gone by then? Other cases are like $8.00 shipping, at least. :(

P.S. I almost forgot to ask... I was curious about the silver cases. Is the inside painted? I found pics of the internals being silver and another with it black. Confused. :)

We're not limiting orders, so unless we get way, way more than we expect, it shouldn't be a problem.

The chassis is identical between black and silver versions - only the exterior panels are different.

The pics of the silver one in the OP are the very first pics Lian Li sent us of the first prototype. Every M1, including that first prototype when it was finished, have painted internal chassis.

I've been following this project for a long time, and I'm happy to say that I've purchased an NCASE M1 (v2)!

If this case sells enough, will Lian-Li begin marketing it as part of their line-up, and would the designers have to strike a deal to do so? It is already very exciting to see an enthusiast part gain so much attention, and I hope this is only the beginning.

Now I have to figure out what I am going to put inside of it. Probably ROG Z97 and some watercooling, but I'll wait until I get the case to decide on that.

I did US Economy shipping, I tried to figure out what the shipping time would be, but I wasn't able to decipher the table. Any idea what I'd be looking at? I'm on the west coast USA.

Six to eight weeks. Economy = slowest ride to U.S. addresses.

I may be a bit off, but for those with Economy shipping, the wait time will be:

  1. Pre-ordering closes on June 22nd.
  2. IIRC, production was mentioned to take around 2-4 weeks (Correct me if I'm wrong Necere/Wahaha ;)). For the sake of a projection, let's assume production starts the moment the pre-ordering window closes. Averaging that 2-4 week range, we get a rough completion date of July 13th.
  3. Finally, economy shipping will take 4-6 weeks, so that translates into an arrival date between August 10th and August 24th.

Almost all of these deadlines operate within ranges, though, so there's a lot of uncertainty here. But it would probably be best to assume that you'll receive your M1 in late August - that way, you'll be content with the worst-case scenario (in terms of wait time), and pleasantly surprised otherwise :)

My god I secured one, MY GOD. No more crying into a pillow at night and staring at my Fractal Design Node 304 with disgust. You just made my Memorial Day!

How many Rev2s are you guys planning on making? (Limited Preorder or demand based)

How many Rev2s are you guys planning on making? (Limited Preorder or demand based)

Kinda both.. seems like they're making as many as needed to fulfill orders, unless the amount of orders is insane. I'm guessing around 1,000 like last time.

Necere, will you occasionally keep us up-to-date on the amount of orders you guys are getting in? Watching the M1 v1 orders rack up on IGG was kinda fun ;)

Hello everyone,

I've been a long time reader of this wonderful project, but as of now I would like to participate, so I just pre-ordered my own M1B2V2 :).
Quick question, I did receive my Paypal confirmation, but nothing from NCase so far. That's normal (spam folder is empty)?

Cheers!

Got my order in, this case will do nicely. Had an issue with Paypal, but got that sorted quick enough.

Yes I noticed the announcement went to gmails spam folder, which doesn't get checked regularly, good thing I've been refreshing the site for the past several days. :)

Cheaper prices, more accessibility, bigger distributors, not limited to possible access once a year with insane delivery times.

You realize, that you can't compare this case to cheap steel cases like the prodigy or the node 304?

A Lian-Li PC-Q18B is currently $129 @ Newegg and imho the M1 looks more difficult / complex to manufacture.

I am pretty sure if Lian-Li would offer the M1 on their own, they would also ask at least about $160

___________

 Thinking about buying another one for a NAS build

Hrm, Gmail junked my ncases.com announcement e-mail.

Not totally sure what's up with the emails getting caught in gmail's spam filter... I'm kind of new to the sending out bulk email thing (we had about 2k to send). I did a little research and apparently you're supposed to set up "SPF" protection on your domain. No, that's nothing to do with sunscreen :p It stands for Sender Policy Framework, and our webhost automatically sets it for accounts, but it might not have been set up for the ncases.com domain.

Anyway, you guys can help us by marking the emails as 'not spam.' I believe gmail uses that to help what passes their filter.

We'll let you know when we reach MOQ, at the very least, so people know that production will be going ahead.

Why isn't the design juts licensed to Lian Li?
So far they haven't expressed an interest in it. LL has their own way of designing their cases that makes more use of shared parts to reduce cost. They'd probably change the design to be cheaper to manufacture and more in line with their other cases if they were to do it.

That's excellent to hear, thanks for the info! I think I prefer the silver one.

Btw, I had no problem with Google Gmail notifying. I can't remember if I marked it as 'not spam' but I do believe it helps to have it as a contact or to mark it in settings.

I wasn't planning on a $200 case but it's so nice, it can be used for the next upgrade although I don't upgrade very often. I don't like my mid-tower now so I am being more picky on which case I get. :)

My email notification was in my gmail spam folder as well. I marked it as not spam. Glad I check these forums, ordered a rev. 2!

It's probably too late for this run, but please consider using something other than Paypal for payment processing. The number of hoops I had to jump through to convince them to process my order was absurd and extremely frustrating. I just want a system that lets me enter a credit card number and press pay, but Paypal adamantly refuses to allow that.

Why? It is pretty much just "enter a credit card number and press pay" for me.

Necere/Wahaha360

Will you guys be following the previous method used for detailing customs value when shipping? It proved to be very helpful to reduce custom charges on the v1 M1.

Do you mean the verification system? Where they credit your card for 1 cent or something and you have to check your bank statement for a special code? It's over ten years since I had to do that, so the system might have changed.
