Wolfenstein: The New Order

The more I play the more I like. Compelling enough story for this kind of game as well.

Here's what made the game playable for me:
In your Steam launch options:
+com_skipIntroVideo 1

Thank you!

In game, bring up the console (Ctrl + Alt + ~)
bind o "r_multisamples 4"
bind p "vt_maxAniso 16"

Unfortunately, these settings don't seem to stick, so you have to bind them and then mash the two buttons when you load a level or respawn. It sounds like a pain, but it works and I don't even think about it anymore.

Why the programmers couldn't have taken an additional 6 hours to stuff AA and AF into the graphics settings is beyond me.

Would it be better or do any good to try and force AA and AF from our respective GPU control panels?

The Good:
If you can live with some of the technical issues (sucks, I know :(), there's actually a downright decent shooter underneath. The gunplay has a fun, satisfying feel to it. Unlike something like Dishonored, you don't get punished for switching it up between stealth and guns-blazing, and both approaches can be equally fun to boot. Some of the gameplay elements are surprisingly fresh, and playing through the first level of Wolf 3D is awesome.

I agree. It's a good game all told despite some of these annoyances.

The source that I got my info from said it didn't work. If you have more success, please post back and let us know :)

If you've finished the game, did you notice:

That you can hear a helicopter flying overhead? Gives me hope BJ made it out before the nuclear bombs were dropped.

I apologize if this has been answered in the thread, but I'm very queasy with torture.. I want to play the game so badly though.

Do you *actually* see torture happening or is it suggested / camera is angeled away?

There are blood and guts everywhere. However, actual act of torture is not shown. Also don't be a pussy.

Couple in game screens. If you go not want throttling , set supersampling in CCC other wise games is not demanding enough to hold clock because of 60FPS limit.

I hate having to push a button to pick up the items, versus just walking over them.

Dear GOD THIS!!!:mad::mad:..What idiot made this stupid decision? I really hope they have to go around pushing a button before they have to pick up stuff in real life for the rest of their lives for this stupid, stupid, decision. I pray that they address this in a patch or someone makes a mod that removes it. I died in the trench area because I was dual wielding heavy machine guns and ran out of ammo because I wasn't constantly stabbing "E" to pick up the ammo from cold dead Nazi scum..

from numerous forums I have been reading. I guess it's because they are hitting the vram limit.

It could explain why some people with the same video cards aren't having the issue. Maybe some people are running the game with multi-monitors exceeding vram limits.

Now I am not saying thats the issue, but it seems from what people are saying it is the reason for the texture popping.

That is a very good point you raise Dashit. I have only played through the first hour or so..Took my time, died a bunch just looking around at everything since I have loved this series since I first started PC gaming. I am running my sig rig and (with the game loaded on my Sammy 830 SSD) haven't noticed a single issue. I made the mistake of reading about all the issues before actually getting the game, so I went in thinking it would be rubbish, but I have been VERY HAPPY so far.

Thanks for the info..Do you think a heavily O/C'd 290 (1275Mhz core/1375memory) is enough to drive this game @ 1080P @ 60FPS with SS enabled? My card won't even stay clocked @ its normal O/C speed (it does in everything else), I guess 60FPS is just too easy for it to push. I have no trouble running it with the stock Ultra settings (shadows maxed and I didn't bother turning off Screen Surface Reflections like many say you have too with AMD) with it being extremely fluid, but I haven't checked the actual FPS. Is there an in game console command for that? I don't use Afterburner, I use TRIXX for O/C'ing. If not I suppose I could use FRAPs but I hate having to remember to load it.

Your shots are very clean. Is it due to super sample AA? I need to try it on my nVidia cards.

What's up with all the stuttering in game? Any fix for this? I'm running it on medium@1080p and I about 45-60 fps but there's so much stuttering.

I'm towards the end. Is there significant differences between the Fergus and Wyatt streams? Or did they just use the same levels and swap the characters?

So far, very enjoyable. As others have said, the E for item is annoying. But I do think this is a fair reboot. They also did a good job by having a ton of animations for the melee.
AI isn't too bad either. Had a few dumdums moments, but they were spread out. Story is solid with some minor inconsistencies. One of few games where I've spent time reading the newspaper clippings.

Graphically, it looks aged compared to what you'd expect in 2014. But part of that is the really low res textures. Some are just horrendous .. Like they're 64x64px. Crysis 2/3 had that issue as well.

It looks like an improvement over Rage in terms of texel density, anyway. There are prices to be paid for having inconsistent texel density, but I think it's a good trade-off versus consistency.

It seems like Tech 5 might have been the wrong platform for a game like this, though. Virtual texturing really doesn't pay off all that well in small interiors, and that's kind of the engine's headline feature. But Bethesda paid a lot of money for id's technology, so using it probably made a lot of sense.

Just a couple of observations....

I guess SLi isn't working......I'm running Surround on three 24" screens and getting 30-35 FPS on high settings......disappointing.

The game is really fun, but if I could SLi I'm sure the graphic would be a lot better. I'm thinking of using my Crossfire setup thanks to the above posts.

I can't exit the game properly unless I have my Afterburner disabled? It's odd but if I use Afterburner and go to exit the game, the computer will lock up on exit and I have to hard restart the computer.
Everything is fine if I disable it.

Just finished the game this morning. I think review scores in the 7s seem pretty appropriate - the mechanics felt fairly generic, the voice acting OK, the story totally batshit (and yet it seemed to take itself seriously with the diaries, his inner-monologues, etc including at the end?), and the boss battles extremely basic. They definitely borrowed from the half-life series in terms of visual style and some of the puzzles too. Not a bad game by any means, but decidedly average.

Other than the frustrating idTech 5 texture/geometry pop-in, and a couple of "holy shit that looks horrendous" textures, the game is reasonable looking. It just feels very uneven.

I'd say it's absolutely worthwhile on sale for someone looking to satisfy the FPS urge, but nothing more.

Great... just like fucking always. Id has the WORST resolution support EVER. Doom3 had shit widescreen support when it came out. Rage barely ran on eyefinity and this game is the same fucking way... Horrible "out of the norm" resolution support. Fucking Id man the same shit everytime.

Thank you for that perspective.

Though I have already said some criticisms regarding the Tech 5 engine, it's likely I'll just wait until it's on sale before I purchase it. I pretty much grew up playing PC games like Doom, Duke Nukem and Wolfenstein, so I wouldn't mind giving this a try. However, in it's current state and the reviews as of late, $59.99 doesn't really justify the game for what it offers unless the gameplay is fun and enjoyable.

On the nostalgia front, there is a 'nightmare' sequence that everyone will probably enjoy if you grew up playing the original (as I did). It's on the upper-most floor of the hide out.

It's really f'n ridiculous that ID Tech 5 came out in 2011 and Wolfenstein plays this horrible. Really low performance on AMD cards and no usable eyefinity support. Now I read Doom is going to use this shit engine too. Really pisses me off. Id doesn't give a shit about PC gamers... John Carmack said again and again how much he loved programming for consoles. I should have seen it coming.

I got 16 hours out of the first playthrough and didn't come close to finding all of the secrets. I really, really liked this game.

I'm probably looking at the same results at the rate I'm going. I like the game a lot, too.

Oh good point, I didn't mention playtime - according to Steam it took me 10 hours to play through. I got many of the secrets, but I did not go crazy looking for them. Fairly standard playtime in this day and age, for better or worse. I'm surprised at 16 hours, though if you really took your time looking for secrets or played on a much higher difficulty I could see it being possible (I played at the notch above default).

Um, to be fair... when Doom 3 came out, widescreen moniters were VERY few and far between. Shit, most people were still on CRTs.

I'm surprised you're not bitching that Quake didn't have 1080p support out of the box.

Quake 3 did have 1080p support out-of-the-box :)

(Carmack developed the engine on a workstation with a 1080p SGI CRT)

i wish not. the day they decide to turn this into bbmisc i'll find someplace else. this kind of retarded shit is only cool there.

lol, hilarious how you can't deal with something so small yet all of the bitching on this forum doesn't make you leave?

Anyone have an issue where you load the game up and your graphics are set back to 640X480 and when you go into display options you see nonsense like "769" in the monitor field and some impossible numbers in the resolution area? I can't adjust it, either.

Using latest Nvidia drivers. (Not beta)
