H1Z1 - New SOE Game

2 hours of pre-recorded lore and no release date or additional game info of any kind.

I think I should get free early access for sitting through that.

Wow, talk about FUMBLING the ball.

I mean seriously, this was their "big surprise?"

"Oh here's a 2 hour long radio/audio log of lore."

Yeah, lore that sounds cliche and right out of the generic zombie apocalypse.

No gameplay, no early access date, no details or anything.

It pissed me off because it wasn't at all a surprise. If I separate that frustration it was a neat little show. It was a blatant bait and switch. I expected an announcement of some sort pertaining to launch date, features, etc...

Right.

If it was that bad why did you sit through it for 2 hours? Just to get on [H] and bitch?

Some people were expecting some news on the game itself.

But you can continue to bitch about people bitching, if you want. Because it's a forum. See how that works? ;)

I think we all have a God given right to bitch.

I sat through it for 2 hours in hopes that at the end the devs would hop on the livestream and give some more game info, hopefully including a release date. They did no such thing. So yeah, QQ from me :(

Good attempt at making some lore for the game though. None of the other titles have tried in any way shape or form. Unfortunately I'd rather see it in game in way of NPC's, etc.

Hopefully very soon

Although I hated the live stream I do hope they implement survivor radio into the game. It would be crazy if they had live broadcasts one to two days a week. They could build lore, drop hints on locations, etc... It would be something no one else has done. Flash back to '99 and it kinda reminds me of Ulgrim the Unpleasant in Asheron's Call on patch days.

This could be promising, we will all need to wait for people to play and see how the finished product ends up.

Livestream 5:15PM PST today "Work in Progress" - new gameplay features, etc.

I'm very happy Sony is entering this arena. There is huge potential for an open world PVP apocalyptic survival game.

Personally I don't feel like Day-Z, War-Z, or Nether are very good games. I hope that Sony can deliver!

They are still saying they aren't announcing the early access date.

Why on earth did they even give the 4-6 week quote whent hey announced this? Should have just said nothing until it was ready and set in stone and it could be made.

The whole "circle of life" seems interesting, where animals have needs (IE need to eat) and hunt other animals, same applies to zombies.

At first I was really excited when they announced early access.

But to be honest, Rust has made so much progress during the same timeframe that I think I will probably just stick with Rust which I have already purchased.

The only thing appealing about H1Z1 at this point compared to Rust is the MMO aspect, which probably wont be all that cool anyways.

I think the technology of the engine is the thing that will make the game interesting. How many players will Rust be able to ultimately support? I think a *massive* map down the road is something players aren't really used to except for in DayZ, with which 64 player server support made a huge map completely pointless. Also actual zombie hordes interest me as well. The scariest part of the traditional "slow" zombie model is that they can overwhelm you in hordes and corner you in areas like cities. I trust Smed and SOE behind the helm of this game at this point, from the sheer fact that they *could* have released this game into early access as a cash grab MONTHS ago but decided to go through an entire checklist of things to make "early access" actually playable before releasing it to the public for purchase. I'm definitely excited.

I'm not counting out Rust, but come on, Rust is nowhere near the level necessary to dismiss competition, and there is nothing to indicate that it necessarily ever will be. Now I do not know if H1Z1 is going to be any better, but Rust is certainly not a reason to dismiss it. Rust is still an alpha game with relatively little/simplistic content/gameplay (just like DayZ, which I believe has zero potential, unlike Rust which at least has potential).

If you read the devblog for Rust they are working on so much more (and better) stuff than H1Z1. (at least what they publicly show us)

The ONLY thing appealing about H1Z1 over Rust is the MMO aspect, oh yeah the vehicles might be cool too.

I am not saying to dismiss H1Z1, but Rust is further along and has better features.

Q&A Summary via Reddit

Gamemodes can be earned by playing the game. You don't have to buy them to play
Game modes are not rulesets. They are something different

Will get tickets with base game. Just get more with the higher priced version.

50 servers at launch. Player counts not decided.

There will be a roadmap. Will be posted around launch

8kmx8km map at start.

themed after anytown USA. Feels like any state in the US.

Figuring out player count. Can be in the thousands. Want to find out what playercount is fun.

System Requirements: Trying to hit Planetside 2 requirements. 64bit only.

Want to do PS4, no date.

PS4 FOR SURE COMING. After Planetside 2 on PS4 releases. Fairly near future. (Code base being done by another team).

Game is steam-only early access. Will last 1-2 months before wider beta.

Cannot spawn with friends in EA. It is planned and will be on roadmap

Base building in EA.

There will be official forums (thank god)

16 weapons in EA.

Next week will have server types. 'many many many types of servers'.

Will have zombie-less game modes. Will have PvE servers.

Playerstudio: Yes, not day1.

3 vehicles. Offroader (seen), pickup truck (can get in back and shoot out), and police car (rare, has sirens and lights)

130 possible places for a vehicle to spawn, but only 15 will spawn. Numbers guaranteed to fluctuate once players get in.

Random weather at start. Real world stuff coming later.

Rain, snow, wind in EA

Different zombie types. Several different speeds. Agitation time different.

no jumpers yet.

Different zombie brains and how smart they are.

Smarter zombies than DayZ. Horde mentality, very deadly.

Very different game than DayZ. Feels more 'part of the apocalypse'.

Trying to go for feel of being in the middle of a plague.

Day 1 European Servers. Full setup coming later.

Day/night cycle. Sun comes up, Sun goes down. Cycle leads to deadly encounters.

Farming for food. Some basic farming... corn, wheat, moonshine, flour, pies, anything you can think of.

Over 100 different recipes. 90 unique items or so.

New inventory works well. Thanks for that.

Taking time for early access let them improved the inventory system which is good.

Health, Wellness (Disease and illnesses), Getting cold affects you, so get warm. You can catch illness when cold.

You can bleed.

You can get tired if you don't rest.

How deep is character creation? Not very. Trying to create a character with a limited life-span.

There is customization, but you are going to die. Customization isn't that big of a deal when you die so quick.

Female characters.

There will be planes and airdrops. Can't fly them yet. Nothing stopping them.

Zombies can break doors.

Lockers, yes.

Can swim.

What do you do if you die? Deep question. In game however: You restart and your shit is gone.

Rabbit, Wolves, Ravens, Deer, Bears. Tons of animals.

Weather kinda effects zombies. If it's raining, zombies have impaired hearing, if it's dark zombies have impaired sight.

You can craft traps. Pungi Sticks, Landmines, Bear trap, Rabbit trap (for catching rabbits). \

Yes, will have anticheat. Similar to Planetside 2. Very successful there... Most of the people who write cheats for PS2 have stopped because of it.

Spawn with a flashlight, some flares, and bandages.

If you die and have stuff you bought, they can loot it and is very degraded. If you bought it, you still have it, they just get a copy.

Stats on death, showing you where you went, how long you survived, how many zombies you killed. No leaderboard for Early Access.

Probably not chop limbs off. Most of the team is sad about it, but it's not the kind of game they want to make.

will have pets, not in early access.

Characters: 1 per server.

Can start forest fires, not day 1.

Missions? Hell no.

Can sleep to heal.

When you log in, you are in the same spot.

If you build a house, it defaults to you. You give lock codes out to friends so they can get in.

Want a karma system. Identification based on Karma. Not in Early Access. Probably added later.

Players becoming zombies: Wishlist, not early access.

Handcuffs being worked on, Post EA.

Trying to prevent KOS, they think they did a good job for new players. No real reason to kill a new player.

Game is fun when you don't know who to trust. Jimmy doesn't want to know who the badguy is because that's part of the game. They don't want to completely discourage KOS.

Yes voice chat. Proximity and radios.

Will be a map. Map Signs in the world, no GUI map. You can find them and find out where you are based on in world objects. (this is cool). Post EA they want a brochure that has a map.

Yes hardcore servers. They work how you think they work.

Base building is long term end game. They really want to do that.

Game will be Free to Play on PS4.

there will be tall buildings to snipe from

Yes to radios.

You should try to tame wild animals, bears are totally your friend and you get free meat from them ;)

Do you need to team up to survive? "Not if you are any type of a man"

Clan support: Not day 1

Mods: Not day 1.

How can you protect your stuff when you log out: They want to do locked stuff, but they are working on that actively.

Trading: Yes, not in EA. You can drop stuff on the ground... old diablo style.

Bikes/Motorcycles: yes. Not EA.

Bleeding: Yes. Chance to bleed based on type of weapon. Blunt weapon probably not gonna make you bleed. Sharp will. More bleeding requires more bandages.

Cities bigger than the town they have now: ABSOLUTELY. Working on an engine upgrade to give thousands of square km. Will get bigger cities. They want urban apaclypse.

Can you blow stuff up: "Come on man, yes"

Can you catch/spread the h1z1 virus: Yes, disabled for now.

You can get infected by getting attacked by zombies.

Can forcibly inject H1Z1 into other peoples by getting a blood syringe from a zombies and stick them.

Will lose human abilities and sights, will start craving flesh. Normal food cannot sustain you when you are h1z1'd.

Will come after EA soon.

No beard growing. Smed can't grow one either.

Fishing: Yes.

Most of the devs prefer 1st person. Will have servers that dont allow 3rd.

Boats: Yes, not day1.

Can you cure H1Z1? "What would be the fun of that? No".

You can sustain with it with crafting, can mitigate it with medicine, very rare.

Can you eat other players? Hopefully

No non-zombie human NPCs

Built in twitch streaming: After EA.

Bounties: With karma. Smed: "Karma is lame"

What you wear has an impact on how cold and how much damage you take.

Only armor so far is a motorcycle helmet, protects you from blunt weapons. Doesn't stop bullets.

Want to do Kevlar Jackets and stuff. Gonna be hard to find. Can shoot helmets off of people.

Early access is not for everyone. There is lots of bugs and changes. If that's for you, go for it. If you want a finished game, do not buy Early Access.

Military Outposts? Yes.

Can you kidnap people: Yes, not in early access.

No currency in the game

Combat logging: Long logout. Combat is detected. They are working on it. It will be solved.

Spawn choosing: Not at early access. Something they want to do.

PS4/PC cross play. Technically easy, buisness question. They are deciding.

How often are updates: Weekly at least.

Night only servers? No. If you really want it, they'll do it.

PSVita: No

Airports: Yes.

Pay to Win? It's about as far away from pay to win as it can get.

How long is EA: Unknown. Want 4-6 weeks months until beta

Caves? No, but there are basements.

Seasons: Yes, but Spring/Summer right now with limited winter. They are getting there.

What separates H1Z1 from other Zombie games? It's an MMO, Will have largest map, world is living with zombies part of the world unlike other games. It's similar, but there is very unique flavor to the game. Will be *Way more fun in the long term

Engine: Forgelight. Planetside 2's engine.

Biomes: There will be other biomes, right now it feels Pacific NorthWest, but it's up to us to decide what they do next based on feedback.

Night Vision: Not for Early Access. Needs some work.

Scavenging gives deteriorated items. Crafting is better for quality. Creating a base is best.

How long has the world been filled with zombies: Weeks to months. Feels better, gives more room to have certain areas pristine and others really messed up. 15 years put too much pressure on art team to make everything feel overgrown.

Random zombie spawns

Grouping zombies based on player noise.

You can repair items.

Two different bows. Not an upgrade.

Bulletdrop: Yes.

Can make ground mound and out items in it.

Besides noise, what attracts zombies: Movement, smell, sight.

Tornados: Clegg wants lighting. Probably.

Customizing Cars: Yes. You can take different parts. No sick rims.

You can take a headlight out from a car, and can place it as a spot light.

Big guns? Not early access. They want to blow everything up, so coming.

Sewers: No

Will zombies climb over eachother: No. They will interact with eachother.

Can you create distractions for zombies? Yes. Police car sirens.

Can spook a deer, make them run past a zombie to attract a zombies.

Barricades: You can barricades. You can barricade doors and windows. Currently zombies dont attack it, but they want to do that.

A horde of zombies is SUPER DANGEROUS. They think it might be a bit too hard. You can fill your entire inventory with arrows and you can't survive a horde.

Can you build a power source? Not in Early Access.

Pull out of cars? No, want to add it.

Can throw rocks.

Hunger game servers confirmed. Will be in Day1 (YESSSSSSSS). This is the ticketing system that Smed was talking about. Think of it like a Hearthstone Arena system. You will get something out of it.

Stats get better the longer you survive. As you sprint more, it takes less stamina. As you build fire, the fire lasts longer since you are better at it. Makes you want to keep your character.

Zombies holding knives? No. Thinking about it.

VOIP attracting zombies? Eventually.

Esports: If you can do it, go for it.

Trees will regenerate, slowly.

Can you lure zombies to attack player? Not directly. But you can lure them around and leave them places.

Audio is fantastic. Super cool, really realistic, lots of sounds makes it awesome. Check out the blog.

How persistent is the building? Yes. They did a ton of work on peristant. The servers will last a very long time before things respawn, they spent a lot of time on it. Very persistant

" Probably not chop limbs off. Most of the team is sad about it, but it's not the kind of game they want to make."

It's a bloody zombie game.....why would the dev's be against it??? It's like making a GTA game and saying "No cursing!"

SOE CEO "You said how many bought WARZ? and they knew it was shit? Really? Ok well get it rolling."

I've been waiting for this to hit Steam. They originally said like October or something, so there has been a delay. Anyone download and play it yet? I'm curious and working long days this week and weekend, so won't get to play it for another week.

So apparently they decided to go back on their word of this not being "pay to win."

http://www.reddit.com/r/h1z1/comments/2skhym/we_have_made_the_decision_to_allow_paid_for/

Just great, this will totally work out and not make it pay to win.

I'm sure guild won't all get together, call in airdrops (so they can spread out some and get all of thoem easily) and then roll over the free players who are just struggling to find a few sparse items.

The "free to play model" is proving to be retarded because it rarely works. As much as I didn't like it, I'm ready to go back to paying $5-$10 per month for a game I really enjoy, as long as it guarantees further development of the game (ie, not like Planetside 2 that didn't see any big updates in over half a year because it's F2P model has failed).

Paying for gun drops in a survival game already ruins it. To add to insult, you have to pay to be an alpha tester. That's something they should probably pay you to do.

You guys know that it is a full loot pvp game right? If you see someone calling in an air drop, or the plane coming, which will be seen from anywhere on the map. Go fucking kill them and take their loot. Then laugh at them for paying for it.

Stop whining.

This is the best F2P model that I have seen, ever.

Make them pay for shit, and then let everyone else steal their shit. Beautiful.

There is virtually an endless list of more worthless crap we consumers spend money on than this.

You can steal peoples airdrops, don't buy a damn thing and you'll be fine.

Or you can quit crying and wait till it's fully released and buy nothing.

Your rant tells me you aren't aware of the hundreds of games Steam has released. Many, many Alpha Releases before this one, so don't be so shocked.
Clearly there is a market for those who want to participate in pre release versions. Durp
