Sennheiser HD 598 Headphones $150 @ Amazon. 1 hour left!

Just how good are those headphones? Any issues with causing ear pain from it being pressed up against your head?

I just went on the waitlist for the heck of it, but I have the same question. How does the comfort of these compare to the Sennheiser HD280Pro? What about sound quality?

I stopped using my HD280Pro in favor of my Paradigm V3's because they were so uncomfortable, but I wouldn't mind trying earphones again if these are actually comfortable.

Also, how much do they need to drive? Would a Creative Z without an amp do fine?

These headphones are extremely comfortable. I wear thick framed glasses and have a 7 1/2 hat size head and I have no issue wearing these for hours.

I've owned this pair for 3 years now. I wear a slightly larger hat size at 7 5/8. IIRC... The first month or so of usage was a bit snug but after the break in period the band is relaxed to my head and i can go for 12 hour long sessions and not have a issue.

They're a good deal at this price, and are among the most comfortable. Definitely not too much pressure even for a larger head.

they're only 50 ohms so yes your sound card can drive them just fine.

had a pair of these for awhile. they're super comfortable to wear, even for hours on end. don't really need an amp for these, but i noticed a bit of an improvement with a cheap fiio i had at the time. sound quality is good, but i wouldn't recommend them for bass heavy music: rap, techno, dubstep, etc.

Tacos has it right. Super comfy, games sound great, but bassy music is underwhelming. I paired mine with an antlion mic and I think its a great gaming setup.

/cry i would have jumped so fast on this. Been waiting forever for these to drop to replace my 595.

If you want bass get the beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro's instead of these.

Only if you have an amp already. I have (and love) my DT-770s but they need a bit more oomp to drive right.
What's the impedance on yours? The 80 ohm ones I owned needed no more power than my 595s.

Mine are 250; but there is definitely open debate whether the 80ohm need an amp or not. My hd595 don't really get much better amped; but most people seem to think the 770 80ohm (and especially the 32 or 250) get better with one (not that they don't sound good without; but why handicap?)

Needing an amp and being improved by one are quite different. I can assure you a quality sound card will push the 80 ohm 770s fine. The handicap is all in your head. Almost all headphones can sound better with an amp running without one is not a handicap.

I never said they won't sound good; but it's similar to buying a Porsche and putting 85 in it; paying more (770s are more expensive than the designed-to-be-unamped hd59xs) and then not taking advantage of what you're paying for.

No, its not. Car analogies are fucking stupid. On top of the fact that the DT770s are not more expensive than the 598s they are in the same price range (cheaper in fact) and have been for years. Even before the 598 the old 595 and dt770s where priced the same.

You simply dont understand what you have and have bought into some imaginary hype. I have used the DT770 80 ohm amped, unamped and with about a half dozen sound cards right along with my 595s they both do fantastic without an amp and fantastic with its not like the 770s become magically better when amped.

And for the record the 32 and 80 ohm 770s where designed to be used without an amp thats what the 250 ohm exists for lol

Enough with the uninformed imaginary hype train.

I stand corrected; ~same price as the 32ohm has dropped significantly since last I recall. (camelcamelcamel down right now to verify, the 80m are a different segment).

slightly outdated comparison on model differences here

Um.. 770s get markedly better amped; all versions. No one debates that; the search I linked earlier has hundreds of first hand posts discussing whether amping the 80Ohm them is worth it (or necessary).

Apologies if you think amps are 'hype train' on lower Ohm cans; but it's not all smoke and mirrors.

Dropped significantly? They have been in the $200-220 range for at least the last 5 years. I got my 80 ohms for $200 in 2007. The only anomoly is the 80 ohm being sold by some shitty third party on amazon otherwise the 32 and 250 are both under $200.

Again you are saying quite a lot without actually making any points. Saying "people say they get better amped" does NOT IN ANY WAY mean you are gimping them by not amping them. It all depends on the source.

I never said there was no improvement i said the notion that an amp is somehow required or you are handicapping them is just nonsense. A good source will push the 32 and 80s just fine.

And read your goofy source.

This thread will be the most comprehensive one ever to be around that will cover all the DT770-DT990 series in the 32Ohm-600Ohm range

The 32 and 80 ohm versions where made to be used without an amp. Sure they sound better with one (what cans dont?) but an amp is in no way required.

You dont have a very good understanding of what you are trying to say and are just parroting what you have seen others say (although very poorly).

I have HD595. I have an X-FI Xtreme Music and a macbook.. If I plug said HD595 into either of them (or even into my smartphone), the HD595 sounds great.

If I plug my HD595 into my GoVibe or Schiit Valhalla, they sound great; but not really any better than if being powered directly from my smartphone.

The DT770 32Ohm will sound noticeably better from my Valhalla, which by definition means they are not at their best straight from a smartphone (though that doesn't say anything about them sounding poor from said straight sources, this leads me to recommending something driven to it's fullest from a clean laptop out; the HD598).

I don't think mean that as a knock on the 770s at all, I used my 250Ohm for 6 years as my primary can and loved then, but i do think a much larger concern would be the closed nature of the 770s.

Good day, fellows. Beyer DT990 Pro 250 Ohm owner here.
I have used these with four sources so far, including a Nexus 4, iPod nano 3G, and a couple of integrated soundcards, and the only problem I've had with any of them is that the Nexus 4 does not have enough gain to listen to quiet records when there's more than quiet background noise. I usually use them while I'm working (night shift grocery stocking, with loud-ass PA constantly on) with my iPod nano as its source. If I turn the volume all the way up while listening to any modern record, it is uncomfortably loud.

In my opinion, you really don't need an amp with 250 Ohm Beyers, unless your source is unusually weak.
