Z97 motherboards out now

ASRock Z97 Extreme6 hit Rockville MD today, with Extreme4 and Pro3/4 likely all arriving later in the month. Lower SRP than Z87 Extreme6 - however, the selfsame Z87 Extreme6 got deeper discounts to keep it under the new Z97 version.
Thanks, but I am looking really hard at a MSI Z97 Gaming 5. Looks like 6 different Z97 boards hit most Micro Centers today. Still debating if I want to go ahead and jump in now with a 4670K or wait until the first week of June to see what Devil's Canyon brings to the table.

Bah.. I'm starting to look for options for my aging i7-920 system. So many Z97 boards, so much junk...
ASUS MAXIMUS VII GENE looks like the best match for me, I wish there was a cheaper version without that stupid sound board. My X-Fi TItanium HD works fine, no need to replace it.

I gave up.... it seems that the new chipset is so yummy compared to my aged Z68 and Devil Canyon might really bring finally some serious improvement between 2500K and 4790K... gathered the cash, now I'm just waiting for the CPU to hit retail, so I can get MSI Gaming 7 and 4790K - decided on MSI, cause I like its colour scheme most, and it's in quite good price range.

Now just those 3 weeks of waiting

The Gigabyte Gaming GT looks good, but I'm wondering how many bios updates will be necessary to get the kinks ironed out.

There is also the Asus Maximus VII Hero, but... well it's Asus so the board is probably going to be great (unless there is a repeat of the 'frozen time clock') but god help me if I ever need to RMA the thing.

Then there is the EVGA Z97 Classified... Great support in case a replacement is needed, but reading the comments about the Z87 boards on their forum, the BIOS could be an issue...

So many choices, so little real reasons to upgrade... :D

I have a x79 EVGA board. Never. Again.

It was that bad? X79 Dark?

I finally ordered the Gaming GT (there is a 20,00$ rebate promo for this particular model at a few online retailers so it made the decision easier).

I had a X58 board and a X79 board. Never in my life have I had boards that behaved like they did. Every BIOS update would completely change the system. As in, CPU would require +-10% voltage to hit the same speeds, memory would never work at the same timings, Onboard audio would only work with BIOS revision X while that revision requires .05 more volts...

Its just a mess. The actual boards themselves have been nice, but with such a bad BIOS it doesnt matter.

I really liked my X58 Classified... It was a while ago so I'm probably idealizing things. Come to think of it the BIOS was king of a mess after each update.

While not as bad as EVGA supposedly is, Gigabyte still cannot offer a BIOS and software suite on par with ASUS. Maybe they just do not care....
