34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

Photobucket is down, so I cannot upload any photos before bed, but I got the monitor today and damn! ...it is an epic experience to say the least! I dont think I can ever go back now haha

Here are a few things off the top of my head....

- Normal IPS glow...just more noticeable because of all the screen real estate sitting in front of me.
- Backlight bleed noticeable on the bottom left and right corners on black screens.
- AG coating appears to be a semi-gloss/matte finish. Still wish it wasnt there!
- No driver or software on LG's site yet, so had to use disc
- Driver is v 1.0 and the .inf file says it is from 11/15/2013
- My monitor was made in Korea in April 2014...model is 34UM95-P
- Used my Spyder4Elite to calibrate. Must use LG's True Color Finder software to internally calibrate this display. Almost impossible to find a download for this. Again, nothing exists on LG's site for this monitor, so again had to use the disc.
- True Color Finder 3.1.3 comes on the disc
- Calibrated almost perfectly to 120 cd/m2 brightness, 6500K white point and 2.2 gamma.
- .icc profile generated as well and I applied it to Windows 8.1 Pro with Update (x64)
- Using Color Sustainer 1.04.1 to keep the .icc profile working in full screen games
- Tested using Final Fantasy XIV. Resolution detected and the game is beautiful! Its literally like looking through a window now into another world. So much more of the game can be seen...makes me really excited for VR some day ;P

Anyways...work in the morning, so I have to sign off, but I am VERY happy about my purchase!!! The only things I wish this had are GSync and no AG coating.

I will play more with the OSD tomorrow or Friday and see what other goodies this thing has. Will try to post picks too. :)

Am enjoying your enthusiasm :p
Am curious why you would need to use Color Sustainer for full screen games. Isn't your .icc profile working system wide?

Can you please comment on input lag? I am all for this monitor if it isn't apparent and very low.

I guess people would have commented on it if it were bad, but i would love to see some tests.

i come from an asus vg278h 120hz, a very fast panel. the imput lag on the lg 34um95 is nonexistent. just the motion clarity on the tn was better due to the 120hz. 34um95 is a must! :)

For some people, 40ms is "nonexistent", others lose their minds on anything over 5ms, and most confuse input lag with pixel response time.
We'll have to wait for Prad or TFTCentral to make a proper measurement, as this is a very subjective parameter to ask others about.

It's a multi-port monitor.
By default, it will have more input lag than the average TN/single-port monitor.

I am a Glossy SLUT....I really am, I mean shit I have a Qnix2710 with the tempered glass to give you an idea how much of a glossy whore I am, but the AG coating on the 34UM95 is perfect....absolutely perfect. It is the best compromise between glossy and AG that I have ever seen. Dare I say I love it actually...and like I said I am a Glossy Slut....so please don't put people off thinking this things got AG like those crap Asus TNs or the old Dell IPS displays because it simply does not :)

And for me this thing is plug and play on Win7 64 with my 290X...no need to install any driver stuff for me.

I honestly like the ratio and lack of bezels and can only hope they make a full featured (120hz - 144hz + g-sync/dynamic hz function - ulmb/backlight strobing mode function) ultra low response time gaming monitor similar to it someday (even if they curve it for viewing angles).
...but the ultimate version of this monitor would be a 36" 4k ultrawide with 120hz and a slight curve
I just did some math and it turns out you'd get 10% higher hFOV just by bending it slightly (radius of curvature 70 cm).
59° vs. 65°.

Here are a few pics...

Forgot to mention that when calibrating, you will need a USB cable for the "USB Up" input on the back of the monitor. Curiously, the monitor doesnt come with one. Luckily I had one laying around.

Also, I have a 6500K backlight behind my monitor in these photos, hence the glow behind it.

Photos are taken with a crappy iPhone 5 camera.

Just an update on my microcenter order. They just called and said its being shipped today and I'll have it tomorrow

I am getting very impatient waiting for Dell to say anything. I have the opportunity to get one of these today. Should I keep waiting? I have heard that the stand is a bit unstable, is this true?

70cm radius, eh? You sure about that? That's not exactly a slight bend!

Considering limits of flexibility of today's flexible panels, 70 cm is a slight bend.
Equidistance is what we're after. If viewing distance is 70 cm, then radius of curvature better be 70 cm.

Edit: depth should be less than 5 cm.

Anyone with the monitor have a GTX 780? I am considering getting one for now and then maybe a second later down the road. SLI 780's seem like a better performance-price ratio vs a 780Ti.

I have a normal GTX 780. It does great. I could benefit from SLI, some games with the graphics cranked up it does struggle some. But for most games I have no problem maintaining 60fps. This is on stock clocks to with a 4670 on stock clocks.

Good to hear, I figure when/if the 800 series is released later this year then the 780's will go down and I would pick up a second one. My 580 now is WC so I would get a GPU block for the 780, should be able to get a nice OC on it.

But I have to do something now, I cannot run this 580 at native resolution with 60Hz.

Just ordered one for 1542$, Sucks to live in Sweden but what the heck :)

I dont have a calibrater. Will your ICC profile work with my monitor when i get it? Or what do u recommend to get the best picture? Only playing games on here..

Worth buying a color calibrator for this? What's the cheapest one you can buy that supports the software?

Dell doesnt rule the monitor world. If you like the LG model then get it I say. Sadly we just don't know what Dell is doing with their model. It could be this month or next or later in the year before Dell says anything or releases it. Maybe if enough people contact Dell they'll give out some info?

You can change the profiles/settings anyway you want I would think so if someone has theirs to a particular setting others should be able to set it that way as well I would think, yes?

But the point of color calibration is to set settings particular to that individual display. I don't think it would benefit another individual much to use those settings. I use mine for primarily for gaming and web browsing too, I'm just wondering if it's worth spending $80 on a color calibrator or not. I've spent this much already.

Has anyone figured out how to get 2.33 video content (like YouTube movie trailers) to zoom to the whole display? YouTube Center doesn't have a 21:9 option.

The problem is that the YouTube videos are always 16:9. YouTube doesn't have any 21:9 content. Anything that appears to be 21:9 is actually 16:9 with black bars on the top and bottom.

It would be nice if YouTube included a crop-zoom function, though. Until then I believe you're out of luck.

This would get you close, but individual panels and backlights still vary quite a bit. If you bought two of these, put them side-by-side, and put the settings to the same values they'd still differ.

The only way to get good color accuracy is with proper calibration gear.

That said, just copying someone else's calibrated settings values is usually more than sufficient for general usage. Unless you're actually editing photos, you don't really need to do a proper calibration. If you are editing photos, then you definitely need a proper calibration.

I sent the YouTube Center developer email to add 21:9 support. I recommend everyone else do so as well. [email protected]

Has nobody tried this monitor in a racing game with a wheel to see if the virtual wheel responds instantly to the real wheel?

Why did you cancel? Just curious...They said mine will ship today but Ive not gotten a tracking number..

Just decided to wait on the sidelines a bit longer.
Literally the only thing putting me off this monitor is losing vertical pixels.

Been used to 16:10 and 2560x1600 for a *long long* time is all.
May need to physically see one of these in a store somewhere someday to decide for sure.

That's what having the side portrait monitor is for, vertical viewing.
When it comes to content creation and gaming, this it the monitor to get.

16:9 and 16:10 gives you the same viewable area in games no matter what the resolution is.

But 21:9 changes that. If offers much more than 16:10 can ever do. Get a cheap portrait monitor and get this.
