PC Gamer - Hacks! An investigation into the $1M business of video game cheating

Has nothing to do with be not accepting a few deaths or being just a mediocre player, its just more enjoyable to be useful to your team and or not just getting waxed the second you respawn over and over. Like I said, have a system that puts similar skilled players on a server and problem solved. You do not have to insult people you do not know based on meaningless gaming preferences.

lol that's so stupid. If its more enjoyable then I guess its more enjoyable for the good players to turn on hacks too and be more useful to their team I wonder if you will still find it enjoyable. Then when everyone has perfect aim how enjoyable is it when your score is knocked back down. lol an earlier poster even admitted that when another hacker got better hacks in a hacking server they didn't like it lol. So much lie from the hackers. I like how you say more useful to your team but at first admit that using the hacks moves you from being regular useful to your team to being in the top 3 making you the over useful star of your team.

then put the necessary time in to be useful, or just be as useful as you can within your means. your 'team' usually changes from round to round and the very team you're trying to help will most likely be hindered by your cheating the next round. it's only benefiting you.

lmao..its so funny how bent out of shape you people get, be more passionate about something that really matters.. you don't like to cheat, don't cheat.. don't like cheaters in your game, play something else.. no way around it, cheating will always exist, in games and in all aspects of life. Someone cheating in a game does not hurt you, cheating on your significant other, that is morally wrong and hurtful to others.

you go through impressive gymnastics to delude yourself into thinking that's not being a shithead.

you posted in a thread about cheating in PC games...

Its just stating the facts and common sense, this world needs more common sense... its being a shithead or not.. who cares.. the game industry nowadays is all about cheating.. you just pay them for it directly for all the perks they offer.

I came to relax and have fun, those things are important to me, by cheating you make gaming much less enjoyable for non-cheaters. I hope you get help for your Inferiority complex that makes you try and justify being a scumbag cheater.

i hear this same talk in servers and it never works but fuels them on. luckily the ps4 does not allow for text chat so no spam and no "cheater cheater ban ban" OVER 9000 times typed

6402-vegeta-over-9000.gif

actuality the text spam is even worse then the cheater!

I suggest everyone to add the cheaters in this thread to your ignore list. I personally wouldn't want to accidentally buy something from them in the for sale/trade forum. Anyone with that mindset thinks it's ok to screw other people.

I gotta say though I love being called a cheater in online games. I've even been banned in cs more than once back in the day. Never once would ever consider using one in an online game. Hate cheaters with a passion.

I am not stopping you from having fun and relaxing, (although not sure why you would choose violence and death and fast action to be relaxing.. maybe YOU should see someone for that). I have not played fps in about 2 years (last was when I used 187ci.com for 2 months) Maybe I should get bf4 and all the other fps games out now and go sign up at damncheaters so I can go "ruin" your relaxation some more.. me and the all the other cheaters out there. I personally like to go to my masseuse for relaxation btw, give that a try once!

Everyone relax now, I am pretty sure there are many people who have or do cheat who have lurked in this thread just none of them will admit it. For those giving me shit for using a cheat in the past, just don't be a hypocrite, I am pretty certain none of you are angels who never do anything "shady". Peace fuckers! :)

People like doox00 are the reason PC games need to continue having dedicated servers, server browsers, admins, etc., and not just resort to "quick play" systems that dump players onto some random server that isn't monitored. If you find a server/community with good admins that quickly ban the unwashed script kiddies then you add it to your favorites and keep going back.

Provided you can spectate, even "closet hackers" will do things to give themselves away, so you ban them locally and let them go bother some other shithole server and keep your players happy. The problem is that many devs today think that all we want/need on PC is a fucking button on the main screen to "play now!", while the old staples have become "features".

This. People like doox00 are absolutely the problem, he is the stereotypical example of "the problem". Sucks, wants to win, doesn't want to get better, pays for them, then defends his actions saying the non-cheaters should shut up.

I find it funny that someone would get so bored with a game, they pay money to cheat to get enjoyment out of it.

And then saying "well it's not as bad as cheating on your significant other". Holy shit that's sad.

As far as the 25% accusation, I can surprisingly agree on certain games. CS:GO competitive matchmaking has been notorious for bringing out cheaters who boost their teammates to high rank. I would say 1 in 10 matches have a blatant cheater but here's the funny part. I did an experiment a couple of weeks ago at the request of a friend who was sick and tired of matchmaking hacks. I decided to create a dummy account for hacking purposes. The minute I found someone suspicious of hacking I would blatant toggle on hacks to see what would happen. The end result most of the time was the other team would turn theirs on and it was a hacking spree. 1 in 3 matches for two nights resulted in a full on hacker rage fest because the other team had a booster who was stealth hacking until I decided to toggle on rage mode, it was fucking ridiculous. Out of the 12 or so matches I played, more than half had hackers. I believe games with competitive ranking and stat recording tends to draw in the most hackers because it gives them bragging rights.

I played UT99 at a decent level and because of that, unless it's blatant, I will always give people the benefit of the doubt.

in terms of times where I used some artificial method to gain an advantage, in TF2, I inked a dot on my monitor for sniping because I couldn't imagine people being able to snipe at distance so fast without the use of one. I eventually found out there was an in-game way to get a reticle to show up for a Sniper.

in BC2, I lowered my LoD settings to Quakeify the game because I was having a lot of problems filtering out the environment when trying to find and shoot other players. the result was that a lot of debris, brush, & smoke got either removed or greatly diminished. I eventually removed the LoD setting and played BC2 normally. I was surprised that my level of play didn't drop that greatly.

I think the lower LoD setting helped me focus better and gave me a better idea of where & how people like to play in the game and it transferred over & let me better filter the environment afterwards.

The Banhammer Edge: Some of you are on it.

For me this is all real simple: I don't care what people want to do with their money and ifthey cheat and itdoesn't affect my enjoyment then that's fine. Single player? Knock yourself out.

Unfortunately... a lot of this cheating does ruin the experience for a lot of the rest of us in some games more than others and that isn't right.

I'll say it again: The biggest takeaway out of this entire article for me may very well be that F2P is completely hopeless. I always suspected the cheating was completely gone amok and off the charts with no hope and I know it for sure.

Overall I had no idea cheating was THIS big and had this kind of money and industry going for it.

This. So much this.

No matter what game you say has the most hacks, unless you say Medal of Honor Allied Assault you are simply wrong. The game had no anti cheat. (excluding 3rd party ones that came around late in the game's life.)

I have never cheated but I used to get banned all the time in cs:s. I quit playing for a while and lately have tried getting into cs:go but been doing horrible, just not as good as I used to be I guess. I still won't ever use hax in a multiplayer game. For those saying there aren't that many they are lying to themselves. Like the one guy said, the cheaters can see all the other cheaters so they know how many are cheating per game. Back in source I could tell because some guy would get butt hurt at getting owned and then all of a sudden the next few rounds he would be unstoppable and just always know where everyone is at. It was like a totally different person was playing. I have seen people step up their game before but not the way some of these guys do.

I have also been on servers where the cheaters are praised even though its obvious they are cheating and the second anyone says anything they get booted from the server.

Here's the reality of things; you know that there are rampant cheats in all multiplayer FPS games yet you continue to give those devs your money. You have no basis to complain.

I used to closet cheat in BF3 for years because my own enjoyment of the game is more important to me than the enjoyment some other random dude on the Internet receives from it. I can all but guarantee that the other players in the matches had zero idea that I was running a radar/aimbot. The $150/year I paid to artificially aiming was the best money ever spent on any game related activity short of the EQ1 subscription and the money paid for Valkyrie Chronicles.

LOL oh man... so many memories...good times...good times... :D

Who didn't cheat in that sumbitch? Hell, some people were good sports. You would go on "rigged" servers where everyone would be able to enjoy certain perks. That made it "fair" again and wild good times.

This still is probably my all time favorite online gaming experience right here, folks.

I'm going to be chuckling on and off for the rest of the day now thinking about this.

I was accused of cheating so many times back in CS beta. I wasn't cheating just playing with 4 friends on a LAN on the same server. We got called cheaters all the time just because we were communicating in the same room which was a much better advantage then team speak. Plus it was our server always packed and actively watched over.

TeamSpeak hacks!!

I find this thread pretty disturbing. As a long time Battlefield player it explains a lot as to why I play like crap with the new BF games

i guarantee you people knew or at least suspected. like said in the Newell quote in the article, it's a negative-sum action. the amount of enjoyment it brings you doesn't equate to the amount of grief you cause everyone else. it's your money and i'd never tell someone how to spend their money, but your mentality on it is shitty. it reminds me of how my 13 year old niece looks at things; "if i get something out of it, what do i care how it affects others?"

It's cheating, of course there's basis to complain. That's why it's called 'cheating'.

you're pathetic.

"i actually suck at this game, but cheats make me think i'm good"
such fun.

how can you honestly have fun when the hack is doing everything for you?
what is the point of even playing the game? all you're really doing is moving around clicking.

i can understand people getting a kick out of blatant hacking just to piss people off.
but i will never understand the mindset of "closet hackers." people like this, such as yourself, are more of scum than the ridiculous hackers than just want to ruin the game.

Wow. "You knew I could be cheating, therefore you have no right to complain about me cheating."

*slow clap*

You just summarized who and why they cheat. They're the same people that think Farmville is a legitimate "game". They are completely satisfied with mindlessly clicking as long as the feedback that returns is "you win" or "+1".

People to rid yourselves of cheaters the SOLUTION is so simple. GO CONSOLE. PS3,PS4,XBOX. They do not have cheats for Consoles Period. WE are all equals there. Consoles are the also the future of gaming.

Am a long time HALF LIFE, BATTLEFIELD fan but I have made the choice to use Consoles for multi player ( zero cheaters, no crashes, no constant manual updating, updating drivers, spending money on new graphic cards, the Computer is buried in time just like the release of Half Life 3.

Play SINGLE player for PC only.

There are cheats for consoles and also no way people are all equal plenty of people out there running XIM and tearing apart servers fool of noobs with controllers.

Second tons of games don't exist for consoles that are on PC, and third playing with low resolution blurry scaled images and generally laggy experience sucks more than playing with occasional cheaters.

theirs no way they coded cheats in consoles. its blocked and locked by firmware. I have seen zero cheaters on PS3 or for that fact ps4 which i own. now if you mean glitchers I seen only a few of those until they released an update for the ps3 game in question. actually 95% of the games released exist on both platforms and some are bad ports to pc.

And yet people hack consoles and use pirated software...

No system is impenetrable.

if there was we would see a $20 million dollar industry if not more. you cant inject a hack in a console period. also not just 1 million like pc.
