I have learned about XPEnology. I am currently using FreeNAS.

One thing I like about Synology products is that I can use an array of different sizes of drives with their hybrid raid technology, SHR1 SHR2.

Since XPEnology is an x86 Synology from the open source parts and the severe lack of documentation, do most people trust it with their data?

I am curious about using XPEnology to create the SHR raid, and then use some other form of linux and mount the LVM? How does replacing disks work from there?

I have it on one of my machines. I know there are some people who swear by it but I intend to keep running it through its paces before I commit anything to it. With that said, I'm curious to hear other's experiences as well.

Xpenology has a 64bit release too.

I don't see why not to trust it. It's a perfectly stable linux kernel utilizing MD RAID + LVM to achieve SHR.

It's just a simplified smaller distro of Linux with a sweet web GUI.

I have setup several of them.....3 full time

Uptime is not a problem.... if it wasn't for me fiddling with the damn things......I would say they have been up and working for nearly a year so far

It's....decent. In my opinion it's a little more trouble than it's worth. My biggest problem with it is the updating. Synology updates their DSM constantly with great features, and I get frustrated if I can't have them immediately.
