H1Z1 - New SOE Game

Based on these streams, how does the performance look? That's what's really killing DayZ for me at the moment. Well, that, and zombies still sucking dick.

Does anyone know if the all Access pay $14.99 to play all the games listed at membership level gone live yet? I know they were talking it will sometime around April 29th.

Yes, it just went live earlier today:
https://www.soe.com/allaccess

They are also having a special sale on the 12 month subscription, it's $99.99 for the first year (which is $8.34 per month) vs the normal $14.99 month, saves roughly 20 bucks off the normal 119.99 price.

Well that is nice deal if you're into SOE games. $8 a month is nothing really for most gamers.

Yea I wanted to try Landmark out but I thought that still wasnt open and in Alpha stages?

Beta is available to anyone that buys a founders pack!

It's alpha, but still looks good even from early gameplay. Nothing too crazy mind you, not much has been implemented yet.

*edit*
After watching more, it looks even more beautiful than I thought. Not sure what kind of systems they are running, but the gameplay looks very smooth.

Thanks for this. $8/month is not bad at all!

Very excited for early access!

Yeah seriously. SLI 780's and I'm getting 25FPS in some places lmao. They need to stop spending time on how much fucking colors they want backpacks in and optimize the damn game.

Well H1Z1 is running the Planetside 2 engine which is very well optimized these days.

Well if the announcement of this game hasn't lit any sort of fire under the asses of the DayZ development team, they might as well give up and call it quits now. A behemoth like SOE can obviously run circles around the DayZ guys and pull as many developers off of other projects as they deem necessary to get the game in a playable state fairly soon.

I am personally just fine with saying goodbye to Infestation, DayZ, Nether, and Rust for H1Z1. I've always liked Smed and I think he will try his best to do the genre justice and make his game incorporate some better ideas taken from the public that we have yet to see, but certain desire, in the other games out there right now.

Yep I've just about given up on DayZ. Hope H1Z1 gives the DayZ a reality check because the current state of the game EVEN IN ALPHA in unacceptable.

DayZ has SO much potential its sad really.

Same. I gave up on DayZ before the alpha release went live. It was clear to me that they were not going to be able to over come the engine limitations. They have done a great job map wise, and with the items, and inv. I personally don't believe that zombies will ever behave right and the polish will ever be there.

I am going to buy this game as I love the genre. I don't think it will fill the void though. I think in the end it will be just another attempt without succeeding. I am hoping dayz can be fixed but I am not giving my hopes up.

Sadly, I agree. They've switched the teams around so they can rebuild the renderer for it, but I hold little hope that it's actually going to A) make the difference it needs to and B) take less than six months to complete. Building a well-optimized renderer for these large outdoor scenes is challenging work, and I don't think they actually have the technical acumen to do that successfully.

I think they can nail down zombie pathfinding within the next couple months, and they can flesh out the hunting/survival aspect, but the performance just kills it.

In the end if they can't optimize the game to make it enjoyable to actually play it will fail.

It was a successful product before it even launched. In that sense, DayZ cannot possibly fail. It can, however, lose its player base over time.

H1Z1 will be leaps and bounds ahead of DayZ. Once it comes out I wouldn't be surprised to see the amount of DayZ players drastically decline.

You are right there are definitely a lot of fanbois. haha

How so? Not much has actually been shown, has it?

During the 12 hour stream they showed off a lot of "work in progress" stuff and went around introducing the dev team. It can be assumed that a behemoth like SOE with a dev team of their size will pretty much shit all over Bohemia or whoever else is currently working on this genre of games. Also they have a much better engine, which is going to be a huge advantage to them and current players of DayZ will most definitely appreciate the better framerates.

In 4-5 months of development they are already on par with the other titles in the genre. I see them surpassing everyone in terms of content and gameplay mechanics very quickly.

Did you catch the stream yesterday? I only watched some of it and it was looked way ahead of DayZ. Not only that but the game has been in development for a much shorter period of time and has already surpassed DayZ IMO.

Also SOE has a much larger team than DayZ. I feel DayZ devs are working out of their basement as this point.

The sad part is we can assume that DayZ has raked in a PRETTY decent amount of money considering it's been at the top of the Steam charts since it came out. You'd think they'd start hiring some more developers to work on the project to make sure it stays ahead of the competition. Don't think it's gonna happen at this point.

Well, they kinda did...they just acquired that studio. However I guess the talent that they got out of that deal is questionable.

They've sold 2M units. And they do have three teams going on it simultaneously, but progress is still pretty glacial. I presume due to technical difficulties in working with an Arma-based platform and ramping up new teams on it.

I have no love for DayZ because the engine they use is complete garbage, PS2 engine is better optimized then theres is, not that PS2 engine doesnt have its own faults but its leaps ahead of DayZ, they had there chance and missed it now SOE will mop up the rest.

The PS2 engine is hardly what it was when it started out. Have to remember they have modified it for Landmark and EQNext. I'm curious to see what iteration of it H1Z1 will use. I agree with you though, it is in another league compared to Arma's.

Also possible that they WANT to work slowly since the longer it takes the more Crowdfunding it makes... :)

Assumed? Yeah that's not gonna backfire on you. Until we have first hand experience with this game no one knows if its any good or not.

Your absolutely right, but I think it is entirely fair to say that it has more potential to be greatest title we have seen yet in the genre. DayZ was a FANTASTIC entry but thats it. In fact the only zombie survivor game I would recommend at the moment is Project Zomboid. That has been a challenging and fun title.

Lets just say I personally have much more faith in Smed than I do these other development companies currently in the same market.

Thanks for the rain vid I havent seen that one yet, that did look kool and scary at the sametime.

Looks okay. If there's one criticism I have so far is that the animations look a little floaty. For something that should look fairly gritty, the MMO-style floaty animations seem to conflict with that.

We can only hope they will continue working on animations, they had a discussion about it during the dev stream last week.

Not saying this makes it OK, but it's pretty much the same way across the board. I don't feel that DayZ or Infestation are any better in this aspect.

he said specifically not next week on the 6th

https://twitter.com/j_smedley/status/463719068915093504

Did you read the post you quoted?

He said early access date, not release.

It would make sense (with their 4-6 week window they stated in the reveal stream) that they'd announce a date soon, as it's only about 2 weeks or so until 6 weeks.

I'd expect a stream/trailer and a date tomorrow, not really sure what could be "big" news at this point aside from that.
