CDI College, one of Canada’s leading career training institutions, is preparing students for success in the workforce of today and the future. An early adopter of tablet technology in the classroom, CDI College will be providing more than 5,800 Surface 2 tablets to students by the end of summer 2014 as one of the primary tools students and faculty will use to facilitate the educational experience across all of its campuses.

I was a student in 1996 at the Saskatoon location - the experience destroyed my mental health. One hopes the new ownership has changed things for the better, but I'll never recommend this school to anyone.

Surface Pro 2's? In any case, still more useful than an Ipad.

At least Windows 8 is closer to the Windows 7 or XP they will be using if they manage to find a job after they graduate.

Much better solution than the schools going with iPads.

At least they didn't get conned by apple to buy a bunch of useless ipads for 'education'....

And the surface 2 is pretty much the best win8 experience on any device right now, and it really shines. I was able to use my surface for 2 straight months as my primary computing device with no loss of productivity while my desktop was down. So at least they are purchasing useable devices for the students.

Yep. My kid's primary have converted over to Surface 2 from iPad. They've like it a lot over the iPad. They said that they didn't use it half the time compared to the Surface where they're using it all the time. Previously they lugged around a Windows XP Tablet laptop that was heavy.

They would have wasted a lot less money if they'd purchased more affordable and useful iPad Minis instead of throwing away money on already obsolete, inadequate Microsoft hardware that the students are just going to abuse by playing video games all the time.

Fixed that for you :)

yup, cause offices world wide are known for there offices full of ipad computers....

It makes way more sense to have students using windows tablets seeing as most work sites use windows. Hell I use a surface pro 1 day to day for my job. It does things a ipad wishes it could do, portable, powerful, I can install actual windows programs on it and use it for more than typing a document.

This is the company that once chewed me out for trying to code a screensaver... they had it set up so that there was no way to do anything fun without being caught.

Of course, that led to problems like extreme boredom when one got his assignment done early and had to sit there looking at a Windows 3.11 desktop because they wouldn't let a guy even leave the terminal until time was up. I learned to code just slow enough not to go postal at the end of the day.

They actually left MS Paint on those old systems, so I got real familiar with that program and how to use it without the instructors noticing after a while. And I'm not kidding about the "old systems" bit - mostly we had to work with 386s. In 1996-1997.

The Saskatoon location is gone. Not long after I left, they were shut down. Rumor mill said it was for student loans fraud, but the lawsuits couldn't have helped any.

Smarter choice than the Apple dPad that Los Angeles wasted their money on that won't get students ready for the real world.

Those coke machines run some shitty version of Windows that lags like hell. They need to optimize their hardware or software, it's as bad as Ford Microsoft Sync.
